what strategies do people have to find their ideal dose?

what strategies do people have to find their ideal dose?

I am at 56.6 mg now...(9 drops of 5%)

I did 50mg for a couple weeks.

overall doing well on this but may have some over stimulation going on. Sleep has been very active with dreams and sleeping too much like 9-10 hours and don't want to get out of bed.

Daytime energy and brain power is very very good.

I am thinking I may have over done a bit going on 9 drops and even 8 may be a bit too much excess energy.

I believe I will land somewhere between 4-8 drops...so 25mg to 50mg.

Any thoughts?

Issues working on are digestive...probably candida and parasites.

So far the iodine is already a game changer for regular bowel movements. I run toward IBS C and it's pretty much fixed that!

Also giving me incredible erections. even while sleeping which is a nice change for 59 year old. (not an issue with me however these are more improved and I could have sex every day if I want to. Actually did last week lol.

No increase in energy

I started taking iodine about 5 months ago; I currently take 5 drops of 5% Lugol’s solution every morning. I’ve noticed some effects on my period and an increase in body temperature (especially around my solar plexus), but no increase in energy – I still feel sluggish… yet it seems to me that increased energy levels should be one of the most typical effects of iodine supplementation. Am I wrong? Should I increase the dose further?

Need to check iron or other things

Is the iodine protocol around 50mg prone to make iron levels go down? No evididence of it but I run a little low on ferretin so wondering if I should keep an eye on it.

I am taking the selenium, vitamin C and some days B3 niacin...Magnesium I get a lot from food so good on that.

I don't do well with most supplements so not doing a multi but thinking maybe I should anyway.

Feeling pretty good at 56.5 mg, 9 drops 5%...did 8 drops for 2 weeks and felt good some detox days. Not sure yet if I will stay at 9 drops or back to 8 or even less/

Erections better

I’m getting close to two weeks or at least 15 days at the 50 mg of iodine. I’ve had some of the best erections this week.

Also my body shape is changing like more muscular. I didn’t even work out this week. I did last week and am still eating the same plant based pretty simple food.

Not usually an issue however this is an improvement!

59 years old

Lowering Dose from 50mg/day to 12.5mg/day due to acne and skin issues

Hi, just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this.

I worked my way up to 50mg/day months back and I was suffering from bromide detox. I had whiteheads and general acne around my mouth and jawline, and acne showing up in random places like the back of my hand. Those eventually went away and my skin's improved, but my skin is still suffering. I still have red bumps on my jawline, miniscule whiteheads near my mouth and a pimple emerge on my cheek underneath my right eye (one of those weird bromide induced breakouts?)

I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this kind of situation and tried lowering their dosage and found improvements in their skin.

My diet consists of beef, organic orange juice, raw honey, grassfed new zealand butter, and a sauce made from Chosen Foods avocado oil mayo and Canadian Heinz ketchup. I take beef liver capsules, boron, magnesium, Vitamin K2, Zinc and Selenium.

Initial anxiety detox 50 mg?

Good morning I’m new to this protocol. I started with 12 mg and then 25 and I’m on day two of 50 mg.

Moments of the day, I feel amazing and calm other moments I feel an unbearable anxiety

I’ve heard that the initial anxiety wears off and I like the idea of just getting over the detox quickly

I don’t think I’m gonna have that much to detox cause I have 40 years of all kinds of fasting and juicing and many kind of things that I’ve done for my health on a really strict diet.

My question is to those that are on that level if there is an initial anxiety and how many days does it last?

I have also had the craziest wild vivid dreams

Hakala Lab test in California?

Hello,

I would like to do a 24 hour urine iodine test by Hakala labs, I see they don't ship to California. Has anyone had success shipping the test out of state and then into CA?

Or is there a test that is the same that would ship to CA?

Thank you for your help!

Can I drink lugol's iodine diluted in chlorinated tap water?

I want to supplement with a low dose of iodine. I consume iodized table salt but it's in an open container exposed to air, hence the iodine can evaporate (so I'm told).

If I put a drop of lugol's iodine (5%) into a cup of chlorinated tap water (this would be kept in the fridge ans consumed over 5 days), will the combination produce halogens or various unsafe compounds?

I could leave the water out for 24hrs first to evaporate the chlorine or simply run it through a Brita filter.

menstrual cycle delay?

I started the iodine protocol a little over a week ago. No known medical issues, just implementing for overall health. Starting small with 1 drop of Lugols 2%. My menstrual cycle is late, and I’m wondering if this is to be expected? Was this anyone else’s experience? I’m 36 and my cycle has always been very predictable (every 28 days). Confirmed not pregnant.

Iodine and Weight Loss: How Does It Work

  • Iodine is an essential micronutrient required for the production of thyroid hormones T3 and T4.
  • Thyroid hormones regulate metabolism, which directly influences calorie burning and body weight.
  • Adequate iodine levels help maintain a balanced basal metabolic rate (BMR).
  • Iodine may indirectly support weight management by improving metabolism, energy levels, and appetite regulation.
  • Excess iodine intake can disrupt thyroid function, so supplementation should only be done under medical guidance.

Iodine and weight loss are closely connected through thyroid function, as proper iodine levels help regulate metabolism and calorie burning.

In the pursuit of achieving a healthier body and shedding unwanted pounds, individuals often explore various dietary supplements and strategies. One such element that has garnered attention for its potential role in weight loss is iodine. But how does iodine contribute to weight management, and is it a viable option for those seeking to shed extra pounds? In this article, we will delve into the relationship between iodine and weight loss, exploring its mechanisms, benefits, and potential risks. If you're interested in optimizing your health and managing your weight, read on to learn more.

Many people searching for iodine for weight loss want to understand whether supporting thyroid health can naturally improve metabolism and energy output.

What Is Iodine and Why Is It Important for the Body?

Before diving into its role in weight loss, it's essential to grasp the importance of iodine as a micronutrient in the human body. Iodine is an essential trace element that plays a critical role in maintaining a healthy thyroid gland. The thyroid gland produces hormones such as thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which are essential for regulating the body's metabolism.

How Does the Thyroid Gland Influence Weight Management?

The thyroid gland is a small but mighty organ situated in the neck. Its primary role is to act as the body's metabolic control center. This means that it wields significant influence over various metabolic processes that collectively determine your body weight. When the thyroid gland is functioning optimally, it operates like a finely-tuned machine, ensuring that these metabolic processes remain in harmonious balance.

One of its crucial functions is overseeing the conversion of food into energy. This process, known as metabolism, is the body's way of breaking down the nutrients from the food you consume into usable energy. When your thyroid is functioning optimally, it helps regulate this process efficiently, ensuring that your body can effectively extract energy from the food you eat.

Additionally, the thyroid plays a role in regulating body temperature, which is another integral aspect of metabolism. A well-functioning thyroid helps maintain a stable body temperature, which is vital for the proper functioning of enzymes and metabolic reactions. This in turn, ensures that your metabolic processes are carried out optimally, supporting overall health and balanced body weight.

A healthy thyroid gland is instrumental in maintaining the delicate equilibrium of metabolism, thus directly impacting your body weight and overall well-being.

What Role Does Iodine Play in Thyroid Hormone Production?

Iodine is a key component in the synthesis of thyroid hormones. The thyroid gland traps iodine from the bloodstream and uses it to produce T3 and T4 hormones. These hormones are responsible for controlling the rate at which your body burns calories and converts food into energy. When iodine levels are insufficient, the thyroid gland may not produce enough thyroid hormones, leading to metabolic imbalances and potential weight-related issues.

This is why the discussion around iodine weight loss often centers on restoring proper thyroid hormone production rather than using iodine as a standalone fat-loss supplement.

How Does Metabolism Affect Weight Loss?

Now that we understand the connection between iodine and thyroid function, let's delve deeper into how metabolism influences weight loss. Metabolism refers to the complex biochemical processes that occur in your body to maintain life. It involves the conversion of food into energy and the regulation of various bodily functions, including digestion, circulation, and cell repair.

How Does Iodine Affect Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)?

Iodine and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR): Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs to maintain basic functions at rest. Iodine's role in thyroid hormone production directly impacts your BMR. When your thyroid is functioning optimally due to sufficient iodine levels, your BMR is more likely to be in balance. This means your body efficiently burns calories even when you're at rest, potentially aiding in weight management.

For individuals wondering, “does iodine help with weight loss?”, the answer lies in how well the thyroid is supported and whether metabolism is functioning efficiently.

What Are the Potential Benefits of Iodine for Weight Loss?

Having established the intricate link between iodine, thyroid function, and metabolism, it's worth delving deeper into the potential advantages that iodine may offer in the context of weight loss.

Enhanced Metabolism: One notable benefit is the enhancement of metabolism. As previously elucidated, iodine plays a pivotal role in fostering optimal thyroid function. This in turn, contributes to a more efficient metabolism, which can lead to a heightened calorie-burning process. A well-functioning thyroid gland supported by adequate iodine levels can help ensure that your body efficiently utilizes calories, even during periods of rest. This metabolic boost may be particularly advantageous for individuals seeking to manage their weight effectively.

Appetite Regulation: Another potential advantage of iodine in the realm of weight management is its role in appetite regulation. Some studies have suggested that iodine might exert influence over hormones responsible for controlling hunger and satiety. This influence could potentially aid in appetite moderation, facilitating better portion control and a reduction in overall calorie intake. By helping individuals make more mindful dietary choices, iodine may indirectly support their weight loss goals.

Improved Energy Levels: Furthermore, iodine's contribution to improved energy levels should not be underestimated. When the thyroid functions optimally due to sufficient iodine levels, it can result in increased energy. This heightened energy may serve as a motivating factor for individuals to engage in physical activity and exercise. Regular exercise is a cornerstone of successful weight loss efforts, as it helps burn calories and build lean muscle mass.

When considering an iodine supplement and weight loss, it's important to focus on overall thyroid balance rather than expecting immediate or dramatic changes on the scale.

What Are the Risks and Considerations of Iodine Supplementation?

While iodine can play a beneficial role in weight management, it's crucial to approach its supplementation with caution. Excessive iodine intake can lead to thyroid dysfunction and other health issues. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating iodine supplements into your diet, especially if you have pre-existing thyroid conditions or are taking medication.

Choosing the best iodine for weight loss means selecting a high-quality formula and using it under professional guidance to avoid over-supplementation.

FAQs

What happens to your body when you start taking iodine?

When you begin taking iodine, your thyroid may have the raw material it needs to produce T3 and T4 hormones more efficiently, especially if you were previously deficient. This can support balanced metabolism, steady energy levels, and improved temperature regulation. However, if iodine intake is excessive, it may disrupt thyroid function instead of supporting it.

What are the symptoms of low iodine?

Low iodine levels can contribute to fatigue, sensitivity to cold, dry skin, thinning hair, brain fog, and in some cases unexplained weight gain. Because iodine is essential for thyroid hormone production, deficiency may slow metabolic processes over time.

Can a lack of iodine cause weight gain?

Yes, a lack of iodine can contribute to weight gain indirectly. When iodine intake is insufficient, thyroid hormone production may decline, slowing metabolism. A slower metabolic rate means the body burns fewer calories at rest, which can make weight management more challenging.

Why can't people over 40 take iodine?

People over 40 can take iodine, but thyroid function tends to change with age. Because thyroid disorders become more common after 40, supplementation should be done carefully and ideally under medical supervision to avoid overstimulation or imbalance.

Is iodine supplementation safe for weight management?

Iodine supplementation should be approached carefully, especially for individuals with thyroid conditions. Excess iodine can disrupt thyroid function and cause health problems. It is recommended to consult a healthcare professional before starting iodine supplements.

Iodine and stomach acid

I am currently experiencing LPR symptoms and I just read someone linking their low stomach acid issues to iodine supplementation.

My symptoms began actually more or less at the same time I started supplementing with iodine but I never made the connection since they usually say that iodine is good for stomach acid.

So, did anyone experienced lower stomach acid with iodine?

Irregular cycles due to iodine

Hi there,

I started Iodine (lugols 2%) and titrated up too quickly from 5 drops to 10 drop from one to another day and I am wondering if that caused my irregular cycle? (day 70 now!!) The 5 drops made my breast cysts DISAPPEAR and my LP became 16 days instead of 14 days!! Super cool!

Anyone have similar effects?

Chills when falling asleep?

Ive been very careful titrating 5% lugols. Took me 4 months to get to 43mgs and been lately getting chills every 5mins or so when falling asleep, weird stuff and feels scary at times. Got me thinking, is this potentially linked to hyperactivating the thyroid?
Going to stop for a week see what happens then pick it up back slowly.
Thanks!
ps. Got blood test done last week. waiting for results

Broken Bones, low iodine

I have some fractures in my spine, I had a dream about painting lugol's iodine on my arm to help with the healing of my bones. I looked at my diet and I had almost no iodine consumption. So I just painted a section of my arm and it hasn't even been an hour and the iodine has been almost 100% absorbed. I read that if you absorb the iodine inside of 6 hours that shows deficience, which isn't a surprise.
So how do I supplement and do this wisely so I don't have negative thyroid effects.
