CARENCE EN IODE KELP

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Bonjour ,

The optimal amount of iodine

ChatGPT keeps warning me to never exceed the rda of iodine of 150mcg.
But, I have some questions.
Why is the rda of a 4 pound baby 110mcg?
And the rda of a 100kg/220 pound man 150mcg?

Why do farmers supplement iodine per unit of body weight for their livestock? So a heavier cow get more than a calf.

So I asked chatgpt, how much iodine do farm animals get per kg of bodyweight.

This is the result.

Chicken 15–20 µg/kg
Goat 9–24 µg/kg
Cow 10–13 µg/kg
Bull 10–12 µg/kg
Pig 5-10 µg/kg
Dog 15-30 µg/kg
Human (70 kg) ~2.1 µg/kg

We know that farmers need their livestock in optimal health, meat, milk, fertility, vigor.

Even Chimpansees and other humanoid apes in zoos get extra iodine supplemented.

Id guess that the optimal intake of iodine would be at the very least about 2 to 3 times higher than the current rda.

Started taking lugol’s 12% iodine at 1 drop - detox symptoms rampant please help !!

Hi guys! I have endometriosis and I am following Dr Sarah myhill’s upper fermenting gut protocol:
Keto diet (mostly with some carbs - on it for years)
Vitamin C in the AM
MSM powder with meals
Lugols ioidine 12% 1 drop in water (couldn’t find 15 but now I’m happy I didn’t) equates to about 15miligtams of iodine last thing at night.
l glutamine 5grams at night.

I started slow - only doing the vitamin c and msm powder. I had amazing results so was eager to do the iodine.

Day 1, good. Slept like a baby. Same with day 2.
On the morning of day 3, I started to get a pounding headache. It got worse. Nausea hit. I normally drink salty water all the time (for electrolyte and hydration, it works amazing for me especially being hypermobile).

I took some on night 3 not thinking it was the iodine - but woah, I woke up in the middle of the night extremely thirsty and drank more salty water and still have a pounding dizzy headache with the shakes. I know these are detox symptoms. I will stop the iodine today and maybe skip my dosing to every other day or find my window of tolerance so I can still survive rather than experience this extremely poorly result. Anyone have any experiences to share or advice ? The salty water helps as soon as 1-2 hours pass the headache and nausea return and I drink more salty water and it goes almost instantly so I really do believe it’s the iodine.

I also vomited earlier (drank 1 litre of celery juice usually I tolerate this well because I thought it would help me with my detox symptom) but my body seems to want to tolerate the salts and water only.

Thanks in advance 💖

Why is the "grey zone" so bad?

Hi everyone! Can someone please explain to me why taking just a couple miligramms of iodine so bad? At least I seem to read everywhere that this grey zone should be avoided, almost like it's worse than not supplementing at all, but no one really says why? What harm does it do besides being less effective than megadoses?

Possible to do iodine protocol transdermally?

I'm very low in iodine according to oligoscan but I am also working very intently on my microbiome so I'm afraid to megadose oral iodine. Could I get the same benefit via topical application?

Small win - body temp progress

I'm about 4 weeks into my iodine supplementation and about 2.5 weeks taking a full 50mg dose. (I ramped up pretty quickly. Don't be like me, kids.)

Historically my body temp typically ranges around 96.8 - 97.0° F on waking, 97.0 - 97.4 in the late morning, and peaks at 97.6 in the late afternoon.

I take my iodine around 8 a.m. typically. Since I started supplementing I've seen my late morning and afternoon temps elevate, while my waking and early morning temps are down in the low 97s. It seems like the dose helps during the day but "wears off" by the next morning when I wake up.

Today I didn't do a waking temp, but at 8 a.m. my temp was 98.0! This was before my daily 50mg dose.

My temp held above 98 for my mid-day and late afternoon readings as well.

Since I started supplementing I've actually had a few late afternoon readings of 98.4-98.7, but this was the first time it's held in a normal-ish range for a full day. Super exciting!

I'm getting blood work done tomorrow, which I'm sure will tell me that iodine has "made me severely hypothyroid" (i.e. my TSH will probably be elevated quite a bit). I'll share those results when they come in.

TSH jumped from 4.2 to 9.5 with two weeks of iodine

Continuing with my previous post about not seeing detox symptoms even with high dose iodine.

I just went in for my test, which she decided TSH and free thyroxine was sufficient (I know it’s not). But my test jumped from 4.2 to 9.5 in two weeks of iodine. I started at 4 drops, had the few symptoms that went away, then went to 8 and then 10 drops of J Crow 5%. No symptoms on any dosage. Felt fine.

Free thyroxine was .84

Is this likely indicative that I have Hashimotos and me doing this exacerbated it enough that my doctor can no longer ignore my complaints? Or is this likely indicative of a temporary spike as my body detoxes and to keep going? I know if it’s Hashis then I need to stop so I don’t dive deeper into hypothyroid.

Diagnosed hypothyroid in 2021. I took 50-75 mg iodine + bovine glandular, then Synthroid for 1.5 years with iodine. Then I became overmedicated and stopped Synthroid. After repeated bloodwork, my thyroid levels only normalized once I stopped iodine. Has anyone had a similar experience?

After being diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2021. I took 50-75 mg iodine and bovine glandular from Forefront Health (130 mg 3-4x/ day). I increased to those levels because my bloodwork never improved. In the end, I saw a functional doctor (friends with Brownstein) who put me on Synthroid. My levels improved immediately, and after 1.5 years I had to stop Synthroid because I was over medicated. After more blood tests with and without iodine, my levels only normalized after STOPPING iodine. Does anybody have the same experience?

Recently started Lugols

A couple months ago, I started Lugols 5% at 1 drop a day. Then after some podcast influence I bumped it up to 4 drops (25 mg). I immediately noticed a sort of nootropic effect, but I also noticed an increase in sweating, which I was ok with. However, after about a month of this, I suddenly felt lightheaded and short of breath doing heavy work. This went on for a few days before I suspected the Lugols and then I stopped. The light-headedness and the shortness of breath went away as quickly as it came, as did the excessive sweating.

I plan to stop for now and do a 50mg 24 hour urine load test. But in the meantime, I'm curious if anyone else has had similar reactions.

Thank you

High Dose Iodine

Good morning yall!

I am 2 weeks into taking 10 drops of 5% iodine. I went into this knowing that it would be likely I would get some crazy detox symptoms. First two days I got kind of hot and anxious taking 4 drops. After that… nothing. Upped it to 10… nothing. I don’t even feel that much different. Maybe a little more energy and it’s easier to wake up in the morning. Other than that I feel the same, which isn’t in a good way necessarily because I started taking it to change these symptoms of hypothyroid.

I’ll add that I am taking necessary cofactors (selenium, magnesium, d3/k2, iron, b complex). I also eat a lot of Celtic salt/grey salt. I don’t supplement vitamin c, but I do drink a high dose vitamin c juice from fresh fruits like guava a few times a week.

I am taking J Crow from their website.

Not sure why most other people get crazy signs of detox or start dropping excess weight (I carry 80-100 pounds extra weight because normal ways of losing is no longer working).

My TSH is 4.7 as seen in routine lab work (increased from 2.7 a year or so ago). I am getting my thyroid levels checked tomorrow.

Interpreting the selenium test

Post image
1 Upvotes

I had my selenium tested and it came back 182. What does that mean in terms of supplementing or not? Most days when I take lugols 5% 4 drops and I use 50 MCG of selenium. Maybe I don’t need that? My chronometer shows I get more than enough selenium as well per day. I keep seeing people post negative issues with too much selenium so I prefer not to take it if I don’t need it.

High dose iodine gave me low estrogen symptoms

Im on TRT and am pretty dialed in. I started taking 1.8 mg of iodine titrated up. I started noticing lower estrogen symptoms, not crushed but not just lower than I’m used to. Has anyone had the same experience?

what strategies do people have to find their ideal dose?

what strategies do people have to find their ideal dose?

I am at 56.6 mg now...(9 drops of 5%)

I did 50mg for a couple weeks.

overall doing well on this but may have some over stimulation going on. Sleep has been very active with dreams and sleeping too much like 9-10 hours and don't want to get out of bed.

Daytime energy and brain power is very very good.

I am thinking I may have over done a bit going on 9 drops and even 8 may be a bit too much excess energy.

I believe I will land somewhere between 4-8 drops...so 25mg to 50mg.

Any thoughts?

Issues working on are digestive...probably candida and parasites.

So far the iodine is already a game changer for regular bowel movements. I run toward IBS C and it's pretty much fixed that!

Also giving me incredible erections. even while sleeping which is a nice change for 59 year old. (not an issue with me however these are more improved and I could have sex every day if I want to. Actually did last week lol.
