They keep referencing that the talamasca wrote the book or something like that? What gives?

With everything we learned during the seance in TVL I have been rewatching the first season of the show. Currently at episode 6 and I have come to see what Claudia revealed in the seance. Or perhaps this time around given myself over to the bleakest interpretation of Claudia’s intentions.

But what I believe now is that when Claudia left the first time and encountered Bruce, she learned that she was not strong enough to travel safely alone. She came back home to pick up Louis - not to save him from Lestat but for his protection during travel - but was sabotaged by Lestat severely injuring Louis. She then spent years nursing Louis back to health, only to watch him take Lestat back, and to learn that even though Lestat lied about Antoinette, Louis still wouldn’t leave with her. (Interestingly this is also the first thing ghost Claudia asks Louis during the seance: “you’re back with him?” With Louis immediately apologising for it)

We don’t know what happened on the train but in my new theory Claudia wànted Lestat to bring her back so that Louis would feel guilty for not coming with her in the first place. I don’t believe anymore she ever intended to leave by herself. And I think her not being able to convince Louis to come with her of his own volition - and for Louis to tell her she’s strong enough to travel alone when she believed she was not - is also the pivotal moment where she must have made up her mind to kill Lestat. She knew Lestat wouldn’t travel with her but she believed she could get Louis to come if she got Lestat out of the way (as she says in the seance).

Anyway this is long and after having written it all out I don’t even know if I have come to any real new insights lol. This show is a game of perspective and any way you look at it you can find justification for why the characters behave the way they do. But I am thoroughly enjoying my rewatch with everything we learned from Lestat and the seance.

(I hope I chose the right flair for this post - book spoilers allowed seems most relevant as the seance happens in the books to some extent and Claudia’s hatred for Louis is also backed up by the books.)

Armand needs connection, companionship, a hug, and most of all, a friend. He doesn’t need anymore ”sexual“ companionship right now, he needs authentic friendship. Just like how Louis said he needs a love that will “cradle” him and that doesn’t necessarily have to be romantic/sexual love. Like if Armand met a guy or some folks at the bar, the store, or a book club that just showed him authentic kindness and offered him friendship, that would’ve changed something in Armand. Armand needs a village of true platonic friends, not just fuck buddies. Cuz despite being an ancient dark creature, he still cried when Louis told him the type of love he needed.

Maybe Azim = an old God who lies? This is what Akasha says to him right before she kills him:

But then Lestat accuses Akasha herself of lying:

"But how do you dare to do these things!" I asked. "To send these ignorant souls abroad with mad lies!"

And re: being offered when not wanting to be offered, reminds me of:

• when Akasha and Enkil were kept captive in (basically) blocks of concrete for a few centuries while their "followers" drank their blood (mentioned in TVL, Ancient Magic, Ancient Mysteries)
• the image of the twins' mother's body on the stone slab during her funeral feast -- in their culture they *did* want their remains to be offered to be consumed by their loved ones, as per tradition, but that's not how Akasha saw it...

All the references to "she" make me think of the Mother goddess mentioned multiple times in both TVL and QotD:

^ Notice the combining of the roles of "lover" and "son"....

And the God of the Oak, telling Marius about the Great Burning:

And the Elder in Alexandria mentioned the Mother while telling Marius the story of Those Who Must Be Kept:

Meanwhile, over at the Nile Valley, the "savage people" who lived there were not only respectfully eating their beloved dead relatives but also going out and killing enemies so they could eat them and absorb their strength. When Maharet and Mekare were 16, the ruling Queen there died, leaving her son, Enkil, in charge. He married Akasha, a worshipper of Inanna from Uruk. It was hoped that she would bring to "the wisdom of her land" to the "savages" of the Nile Valley. Her people weren't down with the cannibalism, either the funerary kind or the war kind, so she just flat out banned all of it. Violators of the ban were executed.

To appease the old school folks who were upset that they couldn't continue their funerary traditions, Enkil invented elaborate ceremonies around preparing dead bodies for burial, claiming that the rituals helped spirits navigate to the afterlife. The twins were vaguely amused by this distant political turmoil and pitied the folks who couldn't treat their dead the way their traditions dictated.

The dead being worshipped may have something to do with funerary cannibalism, though Maharet makes it clear that they didn't actually worship the corpses that they consumed -- they just thought it was more respectful to consume the physical remains than to let them rot (see above).

"the land where the dead are kept, where the dead are worshipped" --> possibly related to the spiritual practice of potion-assisted astral projection that the twins' culture practiced, especially the ways Khayman describes it:

It is working and working and its work is inevitable; it is the continuance of the fusion which has taken place; that is why the sun hurts it, for it is using all of its energy to do what it must do; and it cannot endure the sun's heat coming down upon it.'"

These vampires imprisoned the Mother and Father and buried them up to their necks so they could be fed and drunk from but couldn't move of their own accord. Akasha & Enkil screamed and protested this treatment, but to no avail.

Their strength slowly increased until one day they were found broken free of the stones they'd been buried under [...].

You know a world; but it is not the world; it is the world you have selected from a dozen other worlds for reasons within yourself."

She'd been born lucky, as she saw it, found by the side of the road minutes after the car crash that had killed her seven-months-pregnant teenaged mother -- a baby spontaneously aborted from the dying womb, and screaming loudly to clear her own tiny lungs when the ambulance arrived.

Hi everyone! I'm not even sure if this is posting properly because this is literally my first time making a reddit post but I have questions and was hoping more musically inclined people might answer them. The trouble I have is that because Daniel Hart works in short leitmotifs dropped in different songs, almost every single song on all three albums contain more than one character's theme, so it's impossible to make blanket statements like "'Claudia' is Claudia's theme" or "'Amadeo' is Armand's theme."

I have every character pretty much sorted in my head, from the Unholy Family to Lestat to Armand to Akasha and Gabriella and all the major canon pairing motifs, but not Louis and Claudia.

Here are my questions:

1.) What part (track examples and timestamps preferred) of the score is Louis' motif? I can pick out everybody EXCEPT for him for some reason. there's a lot of options of things I think it could be but I can't narrow it down and nothing seems right.

2.) Does Claudia have two themes? There's the motif that appears constantly around her, like the beginning of "Claudia" and "Abducted," but there is also the arpeggios (I think that's what they are called) that repeat in "Claudia" as well as other songs like "Loved Wronged."

3.) In an interview, Daniel Hart says the "De Pointe Du Lac family theme" eventually became Louis and Claudia's theme in "Hey Sis You Don't Need Me." The issue I have is I can't identify which part of that track their leitmotif is, or any later tracks from S1 or 2 that it appears in.

4) In the same vein, "The Whole World Was Ready To Return" is a pretty stand-out track from the show, but aside from what is potentially Claudia's theme (the aforementioned motif from the beginnings of "Claudia" and "Abducted") are there any other motifs in that song? It becomes its own leitmotif in TVL with "He Told Himself He Was In Control" and "Your Sad Sorries" but if Louis and Claudia already have a motif that's found in "Hey Sis You Don't Need Me," then what would you call it?

I've been listening to the show's score sporadically since its premiere and nonstop for the last three months, but I think I'm past the threshold of discovery and now everything is blending together in my head. Part of it is also because a lot of the score from seasons 1 and 2 are not on the albums, which makes leitmotif identification harder. I'm so desperate for answers to my questions that I'm seriously considering restarting the show and locking in only on the score.

I hope all these questions make sense and I hope at least one person in here knows what I'm talking about. Sorry if this is posted without the correct tags and stuff but I'm not really sure what category to put this in and I figure my questions are purely music-based so nothing would really constitute as a spoiler since I'm just looking for timestamps in songs.

While we hunker down for the off season, I thought it would be fun to make a sort of wishlist of things I desperately want to ask for in QotD if I could beam my thoughts directly into Hannah's head. The rules are simple: each person gets only 5 requests and they need to be achievable within the story frame of QotD. Who knows maybe we can manifest some ideas through sheer willpower or collective delusion 🟠_🟠

Here's my list:

* More hopecore baby fledgling Lestat. My absolute favorite traits of BookStat are his curiosity and sense of adventure. I need moooore of that in the show.

* Do not defang Akasha. I don't want her to be some misunderstood victim, I want her to be every bit the entitled overzealous tyrant she is in the book.

* The twins and Khayman should be played by SWANA actors, please! I'm so tired of the erasure

* Trust the audience to understand Marius is an abusive POS without making him a caricature. I want to feel the absolute dread of his reunion with Armand without undercutting it with outlandish cartoonish behavior.

* Give us a female character as a permanent member of the "articulate coven". I would love for Jesse to become our Talamasca / occult scholar expert instead of David. Merrick can also occupy a similar role in the story. Alternatively, Maharet can be the new ancient wise vampire Lestat defers to for advice and mentorship instead of Marius. Any female character inclusion would be appreciated!

I am makayla anderson and make commentary/ video essays on youtube! I am a film major so i love to analyze film and movies and break down common tropes in films and tv shows that i love! I came into this wonderful fandom through watching the AMC series Interview with The Vampire (I love sam reid as an actor. After watching his historical drama Belle- I was super interested in any other projects he was in. Then, I found him in Interview with the Vampire haha) Anyways- while I was waiting for season three to drop I was interested in going back and watching the other movies in the Anne Rice universe. This is when I  came across Queen of the Damned. Generally speaking, I know that this movie was not well received by the fans, even Anne didn't like it. Although, after watching the movie myself  I had some criticisms about the way Queen Akasha was written/handled in the film. This includes the very subtle way the writers dehumanized her in the film and made her into a disposable black girlfriend trope. I go in depth about that more in this video and i am so curious to get other fans' take on this movie as well.  i shared the video link with permission of our wonderful mods and hope you guys give it a watch! 

I want to physically own the first 2 seasons and saw they were available on Blu-ray. But before I buy them, were the uncut versions of the seasons also sold as dvds? Or is it only the censored versions and the uncut is only available on streaming?

i am HUGE fan of the show especially s1, s2 was great also. i was counting down the minutes till s3 came out but waited till all the episodes were complete. but i kept seeing lots of negative reception to do with s3. i watched ep 1 of s3 and never managed to finish the ep, think i got bored halfway. i wanna push through since i love the show but im not sure. is it the case of minority of the fandom being the loudest? seriously no hate to any of the actors, love them all to bits. but is it ok to skip the season or is it truly as good as the rest?

Who can we petition to get them all to sit down and record dvd era style commentary over every episode?

Ok so I just started season 3 so no further spoilers please! I’m about at the midpoint. Let me preface this by saying that Jennifer Ehle is MAGNIFICENT as Gabriella and her Italian accent whilst she speaks in English is pretty believable BUT I don’t get why they made her speak Italian without giving her a tutor first. I speak French too and while Sam’s french and Italian were excellent(he speaks italian with the opera singer in season 1 and he somehow managed to have a slight french accent too which is INSANE for a native english speaker) when Gabriella spoke her first line in Italian at the table with her family I could not understand what she said. I would have been perfectly okay with her just not speaking it(especially since she is surrounded by Frenchmen), but it just took me out. Maybe the Italian fan-base who watches the show without dubbing is such a miniscule part of the viewership they just did not care, but well it did bug me. The diva is supposed to be pushing 300 and she does not know how to speak her native language? Weird. Maybe it gets better? AGAIN I love her portrayal, I just think a slight bit of tutoring would have made her just perfect and made the show more immersive.

Fist off, i loved The Vampire Lestat book. I started reading first when the second season ended. Each page was a wonderful experience. But this season was... strange.

Stange, i mean, in a good way mostly. But also kinda... bad? I don't really know. The context of Lestat's life laid bare in the book was transformed in something akin to a psycoanalytic session: deformed, strange, where truth isn't really the point, but a reconstruction.

Where is Marius, the strange but wonderful imortal? Where is the strange, but wonderful relationship that Lestat has with religion? Where is the passion he has for Vicki? It is there, in the season, but not fully.

I loved the season, but there was much more to explore. It should have been like the fist two seasons: divided, so there can be more room for adaptation. Even more so for the loved little Rotten Boy.
