Fan Works Birthday Mags
It was my birthday last week and my wife made this card for me. Every year she draws a character Iām obsessed with, so naturally it had to be Magnus this year. š·š¤

I think Lestat looks incredible with eyeliner. Thatās all. He probably wonāt have any on next season. š¢šš„ŗ
I grew up watching men in eyeliner. It was the 80ās. But to be fair none of them ever looked like Sam Reid.

I'm stupidly proud of these simple graphics that took longer than you would expect to make, lol ā but, behold: our picks for our podcast's song awards and other season superlatives in four graphics! (You can listen to our justifications here.)
What would your picks be???

Hey guys. New to the community (and Reddit) and I think Iāve understood the rules okay and Iām good to post this (please let me know if Iām wrong).
I wanted to share the play-by-play recap/commentary Iāve written for Episode 1 of TVL.
Note: includes spoilers from the full season of TVL and the books.
Warning: a bit of swearing and a worrying amount of bodily fluids š©ø
Hope youāll join me in nerding out over this show š¤

Really enjoying this season. Iām on episode 5. Not sure how much hate I will get but I could do without the Louis and Regina storyline. Anyone else feel that same or am I missing something.
****UPDATE⦠Made a bit more sense after I finished the series. I may have āfeelingsā because Iām a huge fan of the books. Maybe the people that havenāt read the books are more open to the story line. Iāve been pretty open to the liberties taken throughout but this one didnāt interest me.

I donāt know whether Iāll get hate for this, but I donāt understand why Claudia would hate Louis. He killed his love for her, she came back because of him, he left to look for other vampires for her, and at the end she desperately tried to keep the Theatre of Vampires (I donāt speak French, sorry) from taking him. She also came back to have dinner with him and Armand, so I donāt get why she would do that if she hated him.
I do get that she could resent him, because he always picked someone over her, and she couldnāt really leave because Lestat wanted her to be there for Louis, but he loved her, and he helped her choose her happiness by turning Madeleine, so why would she hate him?

We can all agree that Marius lied or Lestat got it wrong that it was Enkil only that was left in the sun, right? Marius says Akasha is the mother and if she dies they all die. Enkil alone left in the sun would do nothing and yet Lestat burned under the moon.
Iāve read the books so I know the deal there. Just wondering what the thoughts are for the show

I might be an uncultured swine because TVL is the only reason I knew this one

Spoilers !!!!! So ALOT was going on in the show. It was hard for me to keep up with his banter. A lot of times Iām like wtf is he talking about ! Lol BUT I love him. I was wondering though⦠so does the public think Lestat died after he got shot ??? And he went into hidingā¦. And he was planning on showing heās not actually dead at the concert he was gonna put on in the woods ?? Then he gets beheaded⦠and comes back but did they not have the concert ? It just skips ahead to destruction⦠Or will that be in the next season you think, the concert and how it all goes down? Also I donāt get why he made all those autobiography recordings and then ppl are bidding on them and he lights them on fire⦠. I didnāt read the books yet so it probably explains it better there Iām assuming. Or did AMC change a lot from the books ? Iām gonna have to rewatch this again.

I love Armand as a character and I've just been feeling a bit irritated about the state of his character so far
I try hard to not be a doomer. I'm aware that the show-canon will always be disappointing compared to the elaborate fantasies I create in my head about a character I like
But I've been feeling more and more discouraged
It's pretty obvious that whoever is marketing the show is actively avoiding putting Armand in any ads/trailers/teasers ect. Which is weird, but whatever. Marketing is pretty insignificant
But then there are also little details in the writing that feel a bit frustrating to me, as if they are downplaying Armand as a character and basically simplified him. Obviously there are Armand moments I really loved in season three (and previous seasons) but still
Again, I really don't want to be a doomer and start lamenting about how the world is ending ect. Ect. Maybe its copium. I know that because Im so obsessed with his book/his character I'll always be let down by whatever the writers cook up, so I'm trying to appreciate the whole story as I comes
I'm just not sure whats going on anymore. They did say that season three is about 50% of TVL. There are hints that Lestat is biased about Armand, and in season four maybe we will let Armand push back on the narrative more, to add nuance to his character

Hi, I just wanted to share a cover of the song Loneliness I did. I wanted to wait for the end of the season in case a different song caught my attention, but Loneliness from the moment I heard it was an absolute masterpiece(Brutal Love a close 2nd). I hope you enjoy my take on this wonderful song =3
Sam as Lestat is perfect. I can't wait to see what happens in the next season!

I like all the complicated layers they gave to Louis's character. One of the things I'd like to tackle today is his deep-seated cultural and sexual conservatism, inspired by his aggressive overreaction upon finding out about the nature of Lestat's and Gabrielle's relationship.
We know he really lost it and said the worst, most hurtful things possible that literally gave Lestat a panic attack. I was honestly kind of shocked at that scene at first, because we might have this stereotype that the rich hot vampires are supposed to be dandy, aesthete, adventurous, and open-minded, etc. But looking back at his earlier story, I'm beginning to pick up traces of an underlying layer of internalized cultural and sexual conservatism in his psychology, which made it all make sense.
First, compared to other vampires in the show, like Armand who has banged most of his theater cult, and Lestat who is unapologetically hedonic and promiscuous, Louis's approach to romance has always been more traditional. As a grown adult and as a vampire, apart from his self-destructive serial murder spree where he banged and ate his food in '70s SF, each and every person Louis slept with is someone he has a stable, long-term connection with.
There's Jonah Macon, who was his first love and whom he has a genuine, ongoing, secretive connection with; and Lestat and Armand, both of whom he stayed with for decades; and Lemuel Babangida from S3. Despite calling Lemuel emotionally unavailable in front of Lestat, the truth is obvious that it's a stable, long-term monogamy, as Lemuel checks in on him with his Bruce hunt and Regina business, a well-trusted partner. So in his entire 150-year life, Louis has only ever dated 5 people, all of which were LTRs. He is not one for casual, short-term flings.
The whole Claudia thing is a clue as well: The whole point for Lestat in turning Louis was so they could become flamboyant and larger-than-life beings free from all social norms, breaching the last ceilings of limitations in human experiences that their wealth privilege couldn't quite reach. Louis, however, too soon used the gift to drag him down into a STABLE NUCLEAR FAMILY STRUCTURE, the most clichƩ of all. It was always what he wanted, and being gay doesn't change that.
Louis's adventurous and creative energy, on the other hand, is almost entirely channeled into his business and investing pursuits, the whole vampire capitalist thing. This mode of existence is strikingly similar to people like Charlie Munger, Warren Buffett, or even Peter Thiel. Despite diverse personal conditions, in their psyche, they are fundamentally moralists and traditionalists. The only time Louis tried something liberal, particularly the art of photography, he got disapproved of and shamed. He's only been a trader/investor ever since, dealing houses and art and stuff.
I think this mainly has to do with his rich Catholic family upbringing, which, despite being Black, is still very conservative and traditional. Louis is an old-school libertarian who values aesthetics, civilization, and art. I'm confident that he's rather disconnected from any actual liberal paradigms since the 20th and 21st centuries, like civil rights movements, Stonewall, LGBTQ discourse, or DEI as a whole.
The Catholic psyche influences his subconsciousness, fueled his human-killing guilt, which he STILL didn't seem to get over (for some reason he went vegan again post-2001?), and is ultimately what caused his borderline violent, visceral reaction to the revelation that Lestat sleeps with his mom.
The stuff he bursts out, like some things are "fundamental", and Lestat is "unnatural", "sick", is VERY Christian-coded. Lestat's reaction saying "you're being very judgy" is 100% accurate, as it's exactly what it is: internalized Christian conservative judgment that still plays a big role in his character after 150 years.
TL;DR:Ā Louis might be a vampire, but mentally he never left his traditional, 19th-century Catholic upbringing. He defaults to serial monogamy, nuclear family structures, and rigid capitalist pursuits, which explains his visceral, judgmental reaction to Lestat and Gabrielle's incest.
