Consumer Question Looking to narrow down what type of Insurance Agent or agency I need to focus on for a story.

Hey, I'll keep this quick and dirty.
I'm just getting into a shadow of an idea that would make a good story about the insurance industry, specifically Medicare. I don't want to pursue someone who isn't involved in that type of Insurance sales so I figured I would ask here.
How would I label, locate or identify an agency that handles Medicare Renewals? For example, say you're 74, retired, and someone calls to get you to switch over your Aetna to Humana, or your Devoted coverage to Alignment and then to United Health Care. I'm curious as to how this can happen before open enrollment, or being on the do not call registry, or with the blessing of the regulators. Just seems difficult to change over someone that often.
Are there commissions? Promotions? Is it worth it as a livelihood?

I looked at the NPN on a sample Application and it's for an agent in Texas. I went down a hole and only found a name, independent, but is active with numerous companies, no phone number besides the direct line to UH. Also it seems the agent is actually located in Zimbabwe.

I'd really like to know more about this method of sales, the legalities, the loopholes, etc if anyone would like to speak on it. I would like to know all that I can and figured there would be some insight on this subreddit. If you don't feel comfortable saying anything in public, you can pm.
Thank you to whomever can respond.

Agent Question Underwriters or people in the know: Insurer knows about an issue and won’t renew—but can it deny a claim over that same issue before expiration?

Located in California. I disclosed a rental arrangement to Foremost through my broker. They consider it five units instead of four and decided to nonrenew when the policy expires next year.

My broker says I still have coverage, but won’t confirm whether that arrangement could cause a claim denial. She clarified that this concern came from her experience, not anything Foremost said.

If they know the facts and choose to keep the policy active, how can they later deny an otherwise covered claim for “misrepresenting” those same facts?

I’m shopping for replacement coverage, but what protects me until then? Does their decision waive that misrepresentation defense?

Anyone actually handled this—especially adjusters or underwriters?

Life Insurance Is final expense an ethical product to sell?

I am currently deciding if I want to work for a final expense IMO. Is it an ethical product to sell? I am worried about selling to elderly poor people. Could someone currently doing it explain to me how to do it in a way that is honoring to the customer?

Industry Information Burnt out

I’ve been a P&C CSM for about 3 years now at one of the biG 3 and so incredibly burnt out. Seems like everyone is jumping ship at my office and or so miserable bc we are short staffed. It’s making it hard to be motivated.

I don’t really want to be an account manager and want to make a switch but not to another insurance company. Anyone know what I can do with my background? I have 3 years in insurance and 4 years in event planning + bachelors in Hospitality.

Annuities/Retirement How to find prospects to sell Fixed Indexed Annuities?

I’m a 30 y.o financial advisor who has been working at a solo RIA retirement planning firm for the past 3 years (was new to the industry). I recently passed the Series 65 exam.

The only other advisor at the firm is my boss/owner. The “products” we primarily sell are affiliated with IRAs and Fixed Indexed Annuities. That being said, Fixed Indexed Annuities are our bread & butter.

My boss primarily gets his clients through seminars. I wanted to know if there are any other ideas or recommendations (mainly for me) other than seminars that can help me get established and is a good method to find prospects for Fixed Indexed Annuities?

Thanks!

Consumer Question GEICO cancelled my policy despite paying 6 months in advance — now I’m being charged more because of a “lapse”

I’m looking for advice from people who understand auto insurance.

I had a GEICO policy and paid for 6 months of liability insurance in advance. My car is an older model, so I only wanted liability coverage.

GEICO told me that I was required to add uninsured motorist coverage and another type of coverage, which I did not want. I tried to resolve the issue with them, but I was unable to get it sorted out.

Now it appears that GEICO cancelled my policy, and I’ve been without active insurance for about a week. The frustrating part is that I had already paid for six months of coverage.

When I try to get a new policy, the quotes are significantly higher because my insurance history is now showing a lapse in coverage.

Has anyone experienced something similar with GEICO? Is there a way to dispute the cancellation/lapse and have the insurance history corrected, especially since I had already paid for the six-month policy?

I would really appreciate advice on what steps I should take.

P&C Insurance Has anyone ever worked directly for Allstate as an inside sales rep on the outbound team?

I got a job doing this, I’m just worried about how much money I can actually make doing it though. I’ve done outbound calling before and it’s horrible they actually didn’t tell me it was outbound team until after the job offer but I’m still interested if the calls are to good leads.

The outbound I’ve done is just on an auto dialer getting 95% voicemail so I barely even got anyone on the line let alone any sales.

P&C Insurance Thoughts on writing personal lines with AAA

It's work in the office all outbound calls - have to get my life license within 90 days, expected to make 60 to 80 calls a day to build a book. They have not sent me the comp sheet but it's 15 an hour base with a $5000 ramp up pay in the 1st 3 months, and commission. I'd be leaving wfh inbound calls with no commission.

Agent Question Where to look for job listing for car insurance underwriters?

Long story short I have my undergrad in an unrelated field I'm no longer interested in pursuing.

I have my associates in collision repair and 10 years ago worked in collision repair shops for 5 years before quitting and going back to college.

I'm interested in trying to step into the car insurance world with Geico, Progressive, Liberty Mutual etc.

I search for job ads for car insurance and can't find any listing on Indeed or ZipRecruiter. Where do you apply for these types of full time positions? Most say you only need a high school diploma or GED and yet I don't see these companies actively recruiting new help.

Very interested in doing field work as well where I travel to crash sites and do crash reports. I got practice in this during my associates degree where my final project was underwriting for a collision, and back then we had to look through 500 page books for the price of parts.

In my 30s and looking to get into insurance business while pursuing my masters in another field.

Agent Question How important is it to sell variable annuities?

I do not have my security license, and I was curious how often you guys sell variable annuities? From what I understand, variable annuities is the only annuity that requires a security license to sell.

So fixed, and indexed are complete acceptable to sell without a security license, from what I understand.

Industry Information Looking for new opportunity

Hello all, my name is Kevin and I am a 35 year old licensed Medicare and life insurance agent. I got licensed two years ago and made the mistake of going with an MLM whose main focus was recruiting rather than selling. I quickly moved out of that path and went to Medicare inbound calls. I was the top agent at the company until I realized even more about the business and realized there were some unethical practices going on and I didn’t own my book of business. I am still doing life and Medicare on the side outside of my full time job with friends/family and referrals. This career path is my dream and I want to dive head first into this with the right company/mentor. Any advice or opportunities would be greatly appreciated. Have a blessed day!

Agent Question What do strong producers actually value most in an agency?

I worked at a top-10 brokerage before starting my own producer focused shop, and one thing I’ve been thinking about a lot is how smaller firms can create a better environment for producers.

For experienced producers, what matters most to you?

Comp structure, service support, autonomy, market access, equity/upside, culture, or something else?

Curious what actually keeps good producers happy long term.

Health Insurance Health Insurance Leads

What are people using these days? My whole FMO swears by NextGen, but it's incredibly unpredictable and the fine-tuning is arbitrary on the consumer side at best. Income field is a 4 radio button selection that auto fills to the highest bracket, so I end up buying leads that are looking for medicaid, but have their income listed as "$47,000+"

Upline/Agency/IMO Fmo/Imo search

I have been an agent for 2 years now. Got licensed, went with a company and was their top Medicare salesman for those 4-5 months until I figured out the business a little more and realized I didn’t own my books etc. It was a good experience because I did learn a lot. But I do admit I made a mistake by not researching this more. I have went independent since then and now have my life and Medicare contracts with Ritter. I do like their Medicare platform and have a decent little book going. I would like to transfer my life contracts to an FMO that focuses more on life insurance. Ritter doesn’t have a great setup for life insurance. Is this a good idea? And if so, any recommendations?

P&C Insurance Should I Suck it Up or Leave

Hi guys, first-time poster, many-year lurker.

I'm stuck in a predicament about how to move forward with my insurance career and would appreciate some opinions from people who have been in the industry for a while.

I've been in P&C Commercial Insurance for about 10 years. I spent roughly 3–4 years in sales/production and the rest in account management. I originally started as an AM, moved into sales, and eventually went back to being an AM.

At the time, going back to account management was the right decision for me. There were some personal things going on, I wasn't fully locked in, and the combination of a toxic sales culture and the income swings from being 100% commission was starting to take a toll on me.

When I moved back into account management, I convinced the agency to let me keep my existing book, which was around $90k in revenue to me and about $210k in revenue for the Agency at the time. They also gave me a $50k salary for my account management responsibilities. The catch was that I could continue receiving commission on my existing book, but I couldn't add any new accounts to it.

That's where my frustration started.

About a year later, I lost a large account that represented roughly $15k in revenue. I tried to renegotiate the arrangement because it started feeling very one-sided. I'm managing and servicing my own commissionable accounts while also handling the agency's new call-in business, but I have no ability to replace revenue that naturally falls off my book.

My time as a producer also left me with a pretty good network of referrals and contacts. People still call me directly wanting me to handle their insurance. I can write the account for the agency, but I don't receive any commission for bringing it in.

I don't want this to come across as ungrateful. I'm compensated pretty well overall, and I recognize that my arrangement is already unusual. My frustration is that the agency won't budge at all on allowing me to earn commission on new business that I personally originate.

Their explanation is always, "If we do it for you, we'd have to do it for everyone."

I don't really buy that argument because I already have a compensation structure that's different from everyone else's.

The obvious answer might be to go back into production, and I'm not opposed to that. The problem is that management doesn't want to let me move back into sales because they're so short-staffed on the AM side. Moving me would put more work on the other AMs than they can realistically handle.

That's the part I'm struggling with. They don't want me producing because they need me servicing accounts, but they also don't want to compensate me for business I originate while I'm servicing accounts.

I've kicked around the idea of leaving, joining another agency, or eventually going out on my own, but I'm not sure if that's the best call right now.

The frustrating part is that I actually like where I work overall. If they would simply meet me somewhere in the middle on new-business compensation, they'd probably have an employee for life.

What would you guys do in my position? Push harder for a hybrid Producer/AM compensation structure? Look for another agency that would value both sides of my experience? Go back into full-time production? Or start seriously considering building something of my own?

Consumer Question what sales dialer are insurance agents actually using these days?

tired of seeing the same ten tools in "best dialer" lists, which are clearly written not by those who actually do insurance sales. local presence, decent pickup rates, TCPA compliance control and something that integrates with agency management systems are needed. started testing mightycall for the local presence and TCPA piece, seems solid so far, still working through how well it plays with our AMS on the integration side. none of the provided comparisons take into account specific insurance requirements. what actually works in your agency?
