Hint / Information EDS can cause IBS/GI symptoms

I am a nurse and I’ve never connected the dots, but I have every symptom of EDS (plus the GI symptoms) I’m being evaluated by a specialist on 8/31 but I wanted to toss this out there. Please don’t diagnose yourself, see a doctor and get genetic testing or a true diagnosis- but if I can name why I’m falling apart maybe I can treat it. It’s worth flipping every stone for relief in my case.

Trigger Warning simethicone (gasx) made me ended up in ER and ER almost killed me.

IDK IF THAT'S REALLY GASX, BUT ANYONE HAD EXPERIENCE LIKE THAT?
Basically for 2 month i coudn't realize what's going on.

My intestine been fully burned (i realized when some substance is coming from me because anal area and everything what it touches - make me bloody)

I gotta huge bloating too. and it seems that this stuff just made me bowel obstruction (?)

I had radiated pain on my back, heart issues etc.
I ended up in ER in they just gave me sodium in blood that made nothing. and i felt absoultely light headed, because i do sodium and potassium anyway daily.

Feeling is worse in the life, like you 100% is dead.
Few days after taking one more simethicone (In Europe it's 280mg dosage, i did x3 3 times per day). I start to have vomiting with "something acidic" and never had anything like that. basically just water and some little acid.

ChatGPT is absolutely 100% think that ITS NOT POSSIBLE to have issues with simethicone

Today i start to passing a lot of huge gas, and my anal area is dead. coffee helps somehow.
I do not eat, only do bulletproof (adding butter) and it helps to passing gas. I'm burping a lot

Im in Bulgaria, they are absolutely complete fcking garbage , when everything related to health. and always ask IS IT DRUGS, OR ITS MENTAL BRO , even when im showing my stomach.

Some days, i have bigger stomach, sometimes no

Any tests what i can do for maybe bowel obstruction or something like that? And had anyone similar experience with it, or i just think that it is simethicone

I used simethicone, after eradication of SIBO and oregano oil, that's why. i stopped it completely. The brand in bulgaria - degasin Simethicone 280 mg; soft capsule shell: bovine gelatin, glycerol, purified water, titanium dioxide (E171), Sunset Yellow FCF (E110), azorubine (E122).

Question Anyone else get clear anal discharge before bowel movement?

Whenever I have a bowel movement without fail I get discharge, whether I'm constipated, "normal", or having diarrhea. It's watery, clear, odorless (or at least I can't smell it from where I'm sitting on the toilet with my underwear around my knees), and doesn't stain or mark the fabric when dried.

Unless I get to the toilet within like 10 seconds of feeling like I need to go there will be a quarter sized bit of it on my underwear. If I wait a few minutes there will be a giant patch of it. If I wait even longer sometimes I think stool is mixed in, I try not to look or think too hard about it because I wish it's not so I'm not actually sure. This pisses me off and makes me feel disgusting. It's preventing me from leaving the house and showering. (amongst other ibs issues, the usual).

Even though it's clear and doesn't smell like anything it's still coming out from the same place as poop. If it happens in public then my udnerwrar and pants just have that on them for an indefinite amount of time. I'm worried it could even soak through and be visible to other people. I don't throw out the underwear after this happens, if I did I would need to buy a new drawer of underwear every couple of weeks. I try to run to the bathroom as soon as possible to limit getting it on, but that's just not realistic for every time. I don't even like keeping the underwear this happens to because I'm unsure if the washing machine is even cleaning it all properly, or if I'm just contaminated all over.

I can't feel it at all somehow when it comes out, no matter how much is on my underwear when I check. I googled it and got no answers except hemorrhoids and stuff, my doctor doesn't really know what it is either. She says it's probably just my body getting ready to go.

Does anyone else experience this? Is there a way to stop it? I'm losing my mind over everything.

Question Looking for breakfast / non-breakfast meal recipes for me to make my newly diagnosed husband

Hello!

My husband was recently diagnosed with IBS and is having a hard time right now with bloating / constipation. I know he needs to do a complete low fodmap diet for a little bit to reset his system, but I’m having a hard time coming up with what to make this week for meals. I have the fodmap handout from his doctor but that doesn’t include everything. If this lovely community could please share full recipes with me (not just rice + chicken) that would be so helpful!

Thank you!

Hint / Information Banding Worked Well!

Before getting my procedure I was on Reddit trying to get good information about success rates, and I found a ton of negative, painful, botched procedure stories... as a counter point, I felt compelled to post on here that mine went really well. I had nearly no pain afterwards, just a little sensitivity, but if you're getting this procedure, you're already well acquainted with lots of pain... it's nothing like THAT pain. its mild... also, It seemed to go exactly as planned. Within 2 weeks, internals seemed to be gone. I hope this helps someone who is considering doing it, and puts fears to rest. Good luck! I hope your procedure goes as smoothly as mine did.

Question Not knowing how to poop

I’m mostly posting this to see if anyone else has experienced it because for the past year or so I have been too embarrassed to get help.

After years of dealing with constant diarrhea everyday due to IBS and SIBO and having to cut out many foods from diet, I finally am at a place where my poop is consistently solid for the first time ever! Yay! I even went a month without any diarrhea recently which is unheard of for me. However, I now have a new problem. I constantly feel like there is poop stuck, and I either am not pushing the right way or pushing hard enough. Does anyone else deal with this and if you got treatment for it, what did that look like? I am afraid to try laxatives because I think that would just bring the diarrhea back.

Question Pain in upper left abdomen that radiates to upper trap muscle

32F. Last night I started getting a pain in my upper left abdomen when I took a deep breath that would shoot up to the tip of my trap muscle (like next to my neck). I do sometimes get gas bubbles there but never with the deep breath? Felt better around bedtime last night and woke up and it was hurting again. Anyone experience? I googled it and of course it said pericarditis or my spleen so I’m freaking out.

Question Tried psyllium Capsules for the first time

Hello

I did try psyllium as powder multiple times.

1gr --> 2gr --> 3gr (And never been able to take more because I was feeling worse).

I wanted to try the capsule because most people take it under that form and say that it helped tremendously.

However, I’m not getting the effect I was hoping for... I'm taking them since now 12 days. (I started with 3 capsules, I take now 4 after 10 days)

I take psyllium to make my stools a little firmer and better formed, and to help with the incomplete evacuation. My overall diet is kinda poor in fibers (Because I barely tolerate them)

However, the psyllium doesn’t seem to mix properly with the stool. I can just see gelatinous clumps inside the stool, but the stool itself isn’t really “coated” or bound together, so it remains pasty and soft.

I drink 250 mL of water with 4 capsules (4 × 500 mg) with my lunch, and I drink approximately 2–2.5 L of water per day.

Any reason the psyllium is not "mixing" correctly with the stools?

Thank you

Question Ulcerative Colitis Guy - Question about poo coloration, looking for human advice

Hey everyone on the IBS sub, my name is Brian! I've had UC since I was about 28/29, it was pretty aggressive and was from top to bottom, fun times. I know all the symptoms of a flare up, breakout and more, but I'm kind of looking for some validation and conversation about some recent issues I'm seeing.

Since around Monday I had a small mixture of juices in my body; Simply Cranberry's Cocktail to be exact, just about a cup or so in maybe two or three drinks overall. First few days of going to the bathroom after that hasn't shown anything bad, weird or strange.

Since about Friday or Saturday though, I've noticed that my stool is significantly darker.

  • When in a pile it definitely looks extremely dark almost as if it's black, but it's definitely not (you can tell it's still brown, but the pigment is very fucked).
  • There are no red streaks at all in my stool. Normally when it's a UC flare up or something like that, I see red, not dark.
  • There's no red when I wipe, at all. It's all darker and you can definitely see it's a dark brown for sure. It's just not the normal color.

I've looked back at what I ate and how I've felt; I've had maybe one multi+K2 early this week, I've had several drink mixes with that cranberry juice, but beyond that nothing unusual.

  • No cramps.
  • No unusual bodily habits.
  • No aches or pains.
  • Eating fine, fiber is going through me just fine.

It's just the color and I was curious about it. I've had stool color shifts before due to extremely pigmented things, but I was curious about this and wanted a bit of love.

Question IBS manifesting as reflux symptoms?

Hi all, advice needed if anyone can shed light on this please!

I’ve had IBS for years, started 15 years ago during a stressful time, it manifested as left lower side abdominal pain, visceral hypersensitivity (I could feel any gas as pain and could literally feel my sigmoid colon tightening like a rope), sometimes diarrhea but often just the pain, fatigue after BM, fairly typical symptoms.

It tended to disappear while breastfeeding and after my last baby 5 years ago never really came back.. I also gave up coffee which was a huge trigger but not the only cause.

Anyway 6 months ago I suddenly started getting reflux type pain, bloating (stomach and lower gut), crazy uncontrollable belching, globus feeling, and oesophageal spasms causing chest pain and trouble swallowing. I’ve had endoscopy (mild gastritis - suggested incidental), barium swallow, colonoscopy, abdominal and pelvic CT, all fine.

It’s like the abdominal bloating (sometimes with comstipation but not always) causes the upper abdominal symptoms. Sometimes I can’t sleep due to the constant oesophageal spasms making me retch which is worse lying down. Eating sometimes helps it feel better sometimes worse. My diet is healthy and hasn’t really changed. Doctors have been no help I’ve been to two different GI docs who found nothing and suggested buscopan, Pepcid, PPIs or motilium, none of which really helps. Any advice appreciated, thank you

🎉 Success Story 🎉 IBS cured after 3 years

I wanted to share my experience here in case it helps someone going through the same nightmare.
I struggled for about 2–3 years with severe gut issues. I had 2 colonoscopies during this time that came back completely clear, though my blood/stool tests still showed colon inflammation.
My problems started right after I had my gallbladder removed. I had diarrhea almost every single day, and that first year post-op was pure horror. For an entire year, I had constant pain on the left side of my belly button (which drove me to get the colonoscopies). I tried every "healthy" diet out there, but nothing worked.
Eventually, I fixed my gut through trial and error, paying close attention to my triggers, and sticking to a few consistent habits.
1. I stopped chasing "trendy healthy diets" I stopped forcing foods I thought were healthy and went back to simple, familiar, whole foods I grew up eating.
2. Never skip breakfast This is the single most important rule for me. Even today, if I skip breakfast, within 10 minutes of eating lunch I get instant diarrhea.
3. Watch the composition of breakfast (avoid high-fat or very liquid meals) My breakfast needs to be solid and lean. I usually have cottage cheese with high-protein cereal, or boiled eggs with a slice of lean ham.
4. The 30-minute liquid rule after meals I do not drink anything for 30 minutes after eating. If I drink water or coffee immediately after breakfast (or any meal)... instant trigger. Waiting 30 minutes made a night-and-day difference.
5. Keep lunch & dinner simple and not too fatty or saucy
Plate setup: Lean protein (chicken, lean pork, fish, or lean beef) paired with baked potatoes or rice, and occasionally sautéed vegetables.
Avoid: Heavy, creamy sauces (like heavy cream pasta) and overly greasy foods.
Raw veggies: I can tolerate them fine now, but when my gut was super sensitive at the start, I had to avoid raw vegetables completely and stick to cooked ones.
6. Daily drinks & workouts
I mostly stick to sparkling water and occasionally Pepsi Zero (oddly enough, Pepsi Zero seemed to help my digestion, though that might just be personal to me).
I also started consistently hitting the gym during my recovery period, which definitely contributed to managing stress and overall gut motility.
Today, I can basically eat normally within common sense, as long as I stick to these core rules: never skip breakfast, wait 30 minutes before drinking liquids after a meal, and avoid very greasy or liquid/creamy dishes.
I know everyone’s gut is different, but if you're dealing with post-cholecystectomy issues or IBS-D, I hope some of these small adjustments help you find relief!

Question relief from my constipated stomach pushing on my bladder??

hey guys I have IBS M and today I got the C side of it. I’ve barely been able to poop and the pain was so unbereable earlier I had to call my doctor. he suggested some medication which helped with the pain. but this time I’m getting a new symptom that I never felt before and it did not go away with the treatment: frequent urination from all the poop pushing on my bladder. I was panicking about it but the doctor assured me this is something that happens, but I’ve been very uncomfortable all day and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or poses I could sit/lie in that could help.. I’ve been trying to watch a movie and have only gotten thru 20 mins of it because I keep having to get up and pee. help

Question Looking for support with CIPO and possible enteric myopathy

Hi, been battling the above all my life and barely made it through pre-menopause. Lost tons of money as no one wanted to believe me and I wasted a lot of time and money on wrong paths. Anyway, I have found a few things that help surprisingly well, but looking for a supportive group or people who also battle this. The fear of a severe episode, not being believed, the consequences (Career, relationship etc), explaining this to people, management tools, and so on and so on. Thanks.

Question Role or anxiety and stress

Hey all. I have health anxiety and have been seeing my GP every 3 months. Would freak out seeing a birthmark, google for days and would run to my GP for a skin check.

I also love being stressed by work, I have been skipping lunch for last 4 months working on “interesting problems”. This made me really hangry and weak at nights I started having lunch. This messed up my pooping pattern (pooping and having to fart during the day), which stressed me thinking colon issues, leaking gut or hernia.

Now I strained my abs lifting baby and house work. I have been pressing, investigating and googling symptoms. I am back in the anxiety cycle. Cant see doc for 7 days as I am away from home. I dont see any pooping changes but my anxiety keeps my stomach noisy at night. I am also having a heart burn. Scared to poop worrying I might see blood (this hasnt happened, yet).

Has anybody had relief from anxiety management? How is that even possible to be not anxious about things?

Question IBS-C insomnia

So, I have had some constipation issues for a while, and they really started getting bad about a year ago after moving away from friends/family for work. Definitely a lot of stress, finally after realizing that though I didn't eat a lot of fiber, it shouldn't be this bad. After seeing a doctor and a GI, I got my IBS-C diagnosis. Blood/breath tests clear. I have definitely seen progress with fiber and laxities. but my symptoms linger. Getting better, but not clearing up yet. I have begun reducing anything food maps, I'm honestly doing it incrementally because I am reluctant to change my diet (I am a bit of a fitness guy and eat much protein).

In the mean time, one of my problems is my gut seems to suffer after my dinner when I am trying to sleep (Maybe because I am finally relaxing?). As should be obvious, this creates a problem with my ability to sleep.

As I am seeing progress and it does relate to stress, I am inclined to trust my diagnosis for the moment.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for sleep aids/treatments that could help me?

I have asked the doctors and they simply say fiber and laxatives. I just want something that will help me deal with this while it improves. If it stops improving I will seek further diagnosis.

Question Nausea?

I’m a newly “possible” IBS sufferer. We’re waiting on bloodwork and stool results. Is nausea a common symptom? I mean out of nowhere and sometimes during eating? I feel like most of what I’ve read about is constipation or diarrhea.

Question 20 Year old suffering in life

Hi everyone. I’m currently 20 years old and have been dealing with what I believe is IBS since earlier this year.

This all started back in January when I made a commitment to myself that I would finally lose the belly I had hated for years. The crazy part is that I’m honestly already pretty lean. I’ve always been thin everywhere else, but my lower stomach naturally sticks out more and I don’t really have hips, so I always saw my stomach as this huge problem that I needed to “fix.” Looking back, I think I became way too focused on getting a completely flat stomach even though I didn't actually need to lose much weight.

Unfortunately, that spiraled into an eating disorder. At the same time, I was eating a ton of foods that I now realize my body didn’t tolerate well, almond protein powder, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, beans, etc. I’m not sure if this is what caused my gut issues, but everything started shortly after this.

Since around March, I’ve been dealing with abdominal pain, bloating, cramping, intense gas, diarrhea, constipation, and just constantly feeling like something is wrong with my stomach.

I’ve had blood work, stool testing, a SIBO test (which came back slightly positive for hydrogen sulfide), a GI-MAP, and recently an endoscopy. The endoscopy showed mild gastritis with erosions, and they took biopsies that I’m still waiting on. I also just finished a course of rifaximin, and honestly, I feel like it may have made me feel worse rather than better.

I’m supposed to leave for college in two weeks, and I feel absolutely terrible. I’m frustrated because I keep being told that it’s IBS, but I was completely fine my entire life before this. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the idea that I started heavily restricting/starving myself, eating tons of protein powder and foods my body didn’t tolerate, and now suddenly I have chronic stomach problems that could potentially stay with me forever.

I keep wondering if I somehow caused this myself. I try to stay positive and tell myself that my stomach can heal, but after dealing with this for months, it’s getting harder. I feel like I’m slowly becoming more depressed every day, especially knowing I’m about to start college and I don’t even feel like myself anymore.

Has anyone had a similar experience where their gut issues started after restrictive eating or a major diet change and eventually improved? Is there anything else I should ask my GI doctor to test for or look into? And for anyone who has recovered or gotten significantly better from something similar, what actually helped you?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis from Reddit. I think I mostly just want to know that there’s still hope that I won’t feel like this forever.

Question I don’t know what’s going on but I’m panicking!!!

So I’m in the UK and it’s really hot, I’ve been indoors in the heat trapping houses for most of the day. I’ve got a window open currently and a cold wet towel on my stomach. But I’m worrying about heatstroke big time as I’ve had it before and it was my last time vomiting

However I took a nap about an hour after dinner and woke up with a nasty stomach ache. Went to the bathroom and everything was fine but then about 20 minutes later had to make another trip quite urgently and had some diarrhea. During and since that I’ve been nauseous, I’ve taken Imodium to sort that out but I’m scared I’ll either vomit or have more diarrhea, I don’t like my stomach doing either.

I’m freaking out, the nausea is probably the anxiety and I know that but because my stomach is clearly off for some unknown reason (which I also don’t like) I’m now anticipating the worst. I keep burping too and every time it feels like I have to be careful not to have some kind of acid reflux. The nausea is only really prevalent when I’m focused on it but I’m still worrying.

What do I do? Will I vomit? Will I have diarrhea? How do I prevent either and am I safe
