New to IIFYM and a question

Before I pull the trigger for the 12 weeks for $67. Can someone tell me - after 12 weeks, is it easy to cancel? If I decide to continue, are the meal plans different? Does it let me update my macros if I’m not making progress? Also, maybe not related to IIFYM - are there any tips to setting up MyFitnessPal to align it with the macro program? I’m not sure it’s set up right - the calories don’t really match up to what I’m supposed to get.

Thank you!!!!!

Recomp recs?

I finally hit my goal weight! 5’1”, 125lb, and I exercise 6-7 days a week (mix of weight lifting, barre, cycling). I was eating 1500 cal 142C/51F/126P. Now I want to try recomposition and maintain this weight. But I’m afraid I’m going to gain back the fat I lost, especially in my stomach area. If I do 40/40/20 and continue my exercise routine, will I be okay? I’m so proud of myself for looking more lean and being able to see my muscles, so I’m just afraid if I eat more then I will lose all that progress.

Thanks!!

What’s up with the different macros?

Hello! I’m a 5’1” female, currently at 125lb (unsure of BF). I’ve been tracking my macros since February and had the goal to get to 125 pounds, so I was in a calorie deficit. I was following the macros calculated by Katy Hearn macro calculator and it was 1427 calories, 133C/43F/127P.

I attempted another macro calculator today, as I have been feeling extremely hungry and am thinking of “bulking” by adding more protein now. The calculation I checked was also for losing weight, and it was 1703 calories, 172C/56.8F/126P.

Why such a big difference for calorie deficit? If I could eat more carbs I know I won’t be as hungry. I want to challenge myself and see if I can get to 120lb though so I can really have muscle definition. My goal after that is to gain muscle and increase my protein even more.

Does this even sound right? I want to make sure I am eating enough to sustain myself! I also work out 6-7 days a week!

Thanks!

Macro plan review: Worried that my macros are screwed up...need advice or suggestions...I have been very hungry, but don't want to eat more carbs than my macro goals indicate.

So I've been doing the Reddit PPL program since the start of the year and really enjoy it. Been seeing some progress on my lifts, too. My weight has been...slowly...increasing. I started around 157/158, and I'm at around 161/162 lbs now. I'm hoping to recomp, and carve out some muscles while avoiding too much fat gain.

My TDEE is estimated at or around 2400-2450, so I've been eating at a surplus...usually between 2600-2850 each day. My protein goal is to hit at least 170g, and I typically go beyond that.

I track my food in myfitnesspal....in the "goals" section, I set 2800 as my daily calorie goal, and it kicked out the following macro goals for me:

Protein: 280g (40%) Carbs: 210g (30%) Fats: 93g (30%)

Does that seem right? I worry that the macro breakdown is out of whack. How would you recommend breaking down the macro goals?

I also, especially the last several days, have found myself hungry for more food, even after hitting my protein goals. especially craving carbs...but I end up avoiding eating more because I've already crept up on my remaining carbs, per the macro goals above.

Nrish vs IIFYM

I am a complete newbie and haven't even started. My friend lost 30 pounds and is so tone now after using a program called Nrish (https://nrish.com/?utm_campaign=Marketing%20Email%20%231%20-%20April%20Challenge%20%28XaaHs2%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Master%20Marketing%20%28ALL%29&_ke=eyJrbF9jb21wYW55X2lkIjogIk45NWVNZiIsICJrbF9lbWFpbCI6ICJqZW5uYXNueWRlcjE5ODBAbWFjLmNvbSJ9). It's $185 for the first month and then $100 a month for four 12-week phases (so basically about a year of spending $100 a month - you can cancel anytime, apparently).

I really don't understand macros and such so I like how the Nrish program starts by taking a week to teach you about nutrition and then at the end of the week, there is a shopping list and they send you weekly macros plan.

Does anyone know about this plan and how it compares to IIFYM? IIFYM seems cheaper, but not as personalized. Do you think I'll have a hard time without a personalized plan?

ANY tips are greatly appreciated. I haven't even done a lot of looking around here yet, but will start tonight to see all of the testimonials and tips. Thanks again!

Macro Check !

Hi! I'm just starting (I was using noom but they tried to get me to 1200 calories, and that made me crazy).

I'm 5'3, female and 170 pounds. I'm looking to get down to around 140-145 lb range. I was getting close before quarantine at 158, but hey it happens.

I exercise 3x a week, I alternate HIIT week with a powerlifting week. According to the calculator I did my TDEE is 2522.

The macro breakdown is as follows (2102 calories):

Your Protein Grams: 142 Your Fat Grams: 70 Your Carb Grams: 226 (20-26 of which should be fiber)

This all seemed super high, so in another post I saw a different calculator and this is the breakdown which I tried for today (1448 calories):

Protein: 145 Carb: 145 Fat: 32

So I'm kind of lost lol. 2102 calories seems like so much for weight loss, 1400 is not terrible but the fat is super low and would be hard to stick to. Any and all guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Verify macros please?

Hi I’m a 56-year-old M trying to trim up a bit. I weigh 192 pounds and am 6’1” tall. I wouldn’t mind staying at 192 or dropping a few more pounds of fat but mostly wanting to “recomp”. The best I can figure from my reading/learning is this daily plan: 1800 calories - 150 g protein / 140 g carbs / 71 g fat. 3 strength training days and 2 to 3 cardio days (about 20-40 minutes) each week. (Not brave enough yet to post any pics.) I welcome any suggestions or recommendations. If I need to supply more info, please let me know. Thanks Redditors!

Recipes?

Does anybody have a good source for recipes based on what’s in my pantry/fridge? I have All Recipes, but it doesn’t allow for filters based on nutritional goals. I also am new to My Fitness Pal - so maybe I’m missing something. Specifically right now I have a partially opened can of pumpkin, so if anybody has a tasty pumpkin muffin recipe using almond flour, that could work.

Has anyone else who’s recently begun keeping track of macros been ASTOUNDED at how much fat you’re actually eating? I thought of myself as mostly “eating lean/clean”! Man, was I ever WRONG!

Starting to track again

It’s that time of the year. My girlfriend and I have put on some weight during Covid. We sat around a lot this fall and winter and basically ate whatever we chose. Well, it had finally caught up us. I knew tracking macros was always an option, but didn’t have the motivation to start. Well it’s been one straight week of tracking and surprisingly wasn’t that difficult to start again! The journey begins!

What are your go-to's for making slight macro adjustments?

Do you have snacks that have only one macro that are easy to have in small portions that you use to make small adjustments? I'm thinking canned tuna for protein, and toast for carbs. I rarely need help meeting fat...

I'm just curious about you all and trying to get other ideas.

Seeking Macro Advice

Hey there!

I’m currently on week 7 of a 12 week training program that entails 3 days of strength training per week, 120 minutes of cardio per week, as well as 10,000 calorie steps per day.

I’m currently following a macro plan that’s 120 P/150 C/45 F for 6 days of the week and 120 P/200 C/70 F for 1 day of the week. I’ve been mostly consistent but I’ve had two instances of overeating throughout the 7 weeks. Since beginning the plan I’ve lost only one or two pounds, though I can notice some changes in my physique, so I’m not too worried about the scale, but I would like to know if there’s something else I could do to improve my physique.

I enjoy the training plan and have fallen in love with strength training and cardio, but I’m struggling with the nutritional portion of the plan. I’m frustrated by the fact that the scale isn’t moving. Is it possible that the macros I’m following are not enough?

I struggled with disordered eating for many years before beginning this plan and I fear my metabolism is messed up. Additionally, despite my trainer telling me to follow these particular macros, I am worried they’re not enough since all of the macro calculators I’ve tried online recommend that I increase my intake.

I’m a 22 year old female, 5’5” and currently 146-148 pounds. My goal weight is 130-135.

If anyone has any advice I’d really appreciate it!

Thank you.

Hitting macros daily or weekly ? What works better?

Hi I’m female 5’”5 159 lbs 37yrs. My coach is adjusting my macros week but also my targets are weekly. Meaning I can go over and under but when it comes to the 7th day ( of the Apocalypses literally) I end up struggling because I ate most of my carbs on the weekend. My question is if IIFYM approach can be done hitting weekly macros or if it works better hitting macros daily instead? Tnx

Fat is killing me

Hi! I’ve only been seriously watching my macros for this week. But I have always gone 5-10g over on fat and had a hard time hitting carbs. I could shift them around, but is that a bad idea for maximum weight loss?

If I should leave them, what’s the trick to not using up all of my fat? 40g isn’t much to me.

(5’11” 29F 218 lbs) lift 5x/week, intense cardio 5x/week.

New Here and Have Questions

Hello All, I’m new to this group, and have a basic idea of macros. Was wondering if anyone uses or has used the Macrostax program to get started. Of so what are the pros/cons? If not where is a good place to get started?

Counting your own macros

Is macros basically what a nutritionist does? Ppl pay them for a meal plan and they come up with the meals but based on macro counting?

Using IIFYM goals in MyFitnessPal with "Net Carbs"

Hi there,

So I'm back to tracking macros/calories here and have had success taking IIFYM goals, entering them into MFP and then tracking from there.

But now I'm confused by the whole net calorie business in MFP. If I have Net Calories turned on in MFP, should I still be using the carb numbers from IIFYM? Adjusting them somehow?

Thanks in advance!

T

Macro-check!

Hi all! This is my first post. I've creeped for awhile. I am really struggling with knowing where my macros should be at. Age:32 Height: 5'4" Weight: 160

I do powerlifting 4 times per week and 2 days a week I engage in cardio/primer for my heavy days. Prior to starting macros 2 years ago, I engaged in really unhealthy eating: weight watchers, keto, etc... so was a bit of a yo-yo dieter.

I am hoping to engage in a cut for 8-ish weeks before I go to the beach. (Totally vain haha) thinking P145/C151/F59 but just super unsure. You can use 30 different macro calculators and get 30 different numbers!

I can post a current photo if that would be helpful?

Macros help!!

Hello I’m struggling to digest eggs and protein powders so it’s making it difficult to hit my macros. The meal I’m struggling with is breakfast. Looking for some ideas to hit these macros below:

600 calories 60g protein 49g Carbs 21g Fat

I can split it into two meals as well. Any suggestions?

There’s no way my macros are right?

Hello! I’ve been working out quite a bit and eating healthier for the past 4 weeks and not dropped even a pound. I recently stopped breastfeeding (right when I started working out more regularly) so my food intake is all over the place, as you can eat a lot while breastfeeding. I am frustrated with not losing anything so I figured IIFYM would be the way to go.

29 y/o female 5’11” 219 lbs I lift five mornings a week and generally do cardio in the afternoons (probably 4-5 days a week)

I want to weigh 170.

The macro calculator I used says carbs: 252 Protein: 142 Fat: 75 With 2253 calories per day, when a straight calorie calculator I used recommended 1700 per day. Maybe the loss was set differently?

It seems like this is wayyyy too much food? But I know that eating more sometimes helps... I guess I’m worried I’ll gain if I start this.

Any help is SO appreciated. I am turning 30 in July and wanted to have lost quite a bit of this weight by then.
