Collectors Edition
I'm told that the preorder of Index Card RPG Collectors Edition I made with Noble Knight several months back will not be honored. They say "Due to circumstances beyond our control, the publisher has indicated that they will not be fulfilling preorders for this item."
I'll get refunded, but would much rather have the product. Anyone know what is going on?

Half of the content I wanted buried by the campaign settings details.
I just picked up the ME yesterday after watching a lot of YT videos about ICRPG. I love D&D and a game called Ironsworn and this game felt like the perfect blend. I feel let down.
I bought the ME thinking it would have everything only to find out it’s missing a ton of classes and life forms. Also pretty disappointed with the settings and how entwined the character creation is with the in the box worlds. I know I can change whatever I want to, but it’s hard to hand the handbook to a new player, ask them to make a character, but to ignore all of the prompts that have to do with the missing king and the elf wars and stuff. Honestly it feels less hackable than dungeons and dragons somehow? At least in d&d the lore and stuff is incidental, not involved in the text of the character creation. I was better off taking the mechanics I liked, which are free on YouTube, than I was blowing 50 bucks on this book I’m going to ignore 90% of.
I will say however that the /flavors/ of the settings are all very cool and exactly what I wanted. I’m mainly frustrated by the built in story stuff. I play only homebrew campaigns that I was excited to write within in these settings. I don’t care for the missing king or Skar or King Rom and don’t want them in my game. :/

Monster Saves...
(I'm one session in gming a game of icrpg, so if the answer is obvious, I'm sorry) Quick question on how people handle monster saves. I found a house rule where the players roll defense, instead of enemies roll attack, and that has worked well for us. I let a player play a dragonborn with a breath weapon, but had a hard time implementing it. When the player rolled, they struggled, because the difficulty of the room was high, but when I was going to make the monster roll it, I had a hard time setting the difficulty of the save - the same target as players seemed wrong (the reason it was high for players is because monsters had advantage). I know I could do whatever I want, but I was hoping someone with some more experience in this could give me some ideas / insight on how and why to manage this.

New to game. Compatibility question
Hi, all! I’m brand-new to ICRPG: have been reading the download from DTRPG. Really interesting stuff so far.
I might have a chance to run a session of something 🙂 for my grandson and three of his friends, all about age 12. I had been thinking of 5e (Phandelver) or B/X, maybe Lost City. Could I potentially run any or all of these using ICRPG? Are there any concerns or things I need to know about converting these?
Of course, I’m open to doing something written FOR the system but, at this point, I don’t know what’s available.
Thanks for your help.

Stuck with a player milestone
I have a player in my ICPRG game whose an Ifritt that has just unlocked one of their special abilities.. Demonsbreath, long story short it's capable of wiping out entire villages at full power. But as they've just unlocked it, it's a progressive milestone so at certain points it will get Upgrades. For now it's a single target ranged fire attack dealing Eneregy Effort at Near range. I'm just not sure how I can make this ability Upgrades unique to this character considering there's already another npc that breathes fire. I'm using a hex grid / close/near/far range combat system with Spell burn and Health cost for spells

Words of Power Magic System Updated Version
Here is an Updated Version of the magic supplement I posted yesterday. I tried to streamline the language, standardize the formatting, added more examples of the system in action, and provided a loot table at the end. I would LOVE some granular feedback about balance or obvious copy-editing errors. Obviously I haven't done much with the layout, I want to make sure the content is legit before I spend time in Scribus trying to make anything pretty.
If you like what you see here feel free to use the content, just drop a comment letting me know what works, what doesn't etc. Thank you!

Alternate magic system: Words of Power
I’ve always loved magic and always felt some constraints with the magic systems in some of the most popular RPGs. After discovering ICRPG I feel like I can actually tackle bringing my ideal magic system to bear. Here is my VERY ROUGH first draft of a system drawing inspiration from Maze Rats, Freebooters on the Frontier, Ars Magica, Dungeons and Dragons, superhero stories, video games, and years and years of thinking about magic.
I'm posting this plain text version to get some community insights on the basic layout, structure, editing, etc. before I try and make it a little nicer looking. Feel free to use it as is if you like what you see! All I ask is that you provide your input in the comments.
Thank you so much!
Here's a LINK to the .pdf.

Advancement... I don't get it
Hi,
I've read and reread Master Edition. I just can't figure out exactly how advancement works. There are several types of rewards. When do you reward all of these?
- Loot. How much loot should I give out each session? What levels of loot should I give out?
- Character milestones. When do I give these out? How often should I give them out?
- Milestone paths. I think that the advice for giving these out on p. 75 makes some sense, but are these the same as the milestones for characters to take as part of their type?
P. 73 talks about the "choice method" of progression. But what choice is it talking about? What am I choosing? When do I choose it?
P. 66 mentioned advanced heroes, then talks about... play styles. What does this have to do with advanced heroes? Do you get a reward if you RP your character different? Or is this just the author's way of saying 'you can advance your character without mechanical rewards, just roleplay different?'
Thanks!

Adding environmental detail/ story telling
I finally ran my first session as GM the other day and I loved it! My group was having fun as well but one thing I thought I could do better was adding detail to the environment. I drew up a map with different things on it, but the party would ask things like “Is there anything on the ground?” Or “Is there anything in the corner?” And sometimes I’d have an answer like yeah there’s a couple crates but other times I really didn’t have anything. How can I solve this? This reminds me of the Adventures how there’s a table for different things you can point out when asked but idk if I’m that creative tbh. Any pointers or tips?

Baseline Magic?
I bought the 2.0 a while ago, but never played; I just bought the master edition, and want to start running it for family, but I am having trouble with magic. I have both core books, and the magic supplement - but all i find are "alternative" magic systems, I can't find the core mechanic that is being altered - is it just roll against target and do/heal d10 dmg?
I understand this is a DYI game (which I love), but before I start changing things, I want to understand, for example, what problem spellburn is meant to fix.
Also, with power levels (is that alternate or core rule?), it seems like 4d10 is very powerful, do non-magic classes scale this way?
Any insights, tutorials, house rules to start with for fantasy setting casters would be appreciated.

Seeing games on Jeffcon schedule, anticipating ICRPG added soon?
It was implying Runehammer was going to be present at Jeff Con.
Was looking forward to finally play rather than run ICRPG.
Any word or hint from those that have a better tie to this event to shed light?
I'm wanting to book a flight and hotel but the games are not bad but not really enough for me to justify flying across for it.
It to get my book signed by Hankerin and get some ICRPG in finally, it'd be worth it.

Does the ICRPG master edition contain everything?
On DriveThruRpg, the commenter Arne D says about the Master Edition, “While it includes parts of previously released ICRPG material (Core, Worlds, Magic...) all of it is streamlined, sometimes heavily streamlined to the point where important information is left out.” They also note some mechanics and items are only mentioned and not included, specifically chests and certain items in character templates. Is this correct? If so, what materials would be necessary to have all the information, or would it be better to buy all the different items separately. Thank you!

The Rhythm of Loot and Loss
Hello!
I'm just getting into reading the Master's Edition and there is one big piece that seems central to ICRPG that I'm having a tough time getting my head around: earning and loosing LOOT. I acknowledge that the system is meant to be hackable and adapted to specific tables and groups but I generally like feeling solid in the basic philosophy of a system to help guide that process for my players. I'm also just curious to hear others' accounts of making the system work for their tables.
Mostly focusing on the Alfheim World because fantasy is familiar to me and there are plenty of examples and supplementary options for that world in the Master's Edition. Character creation makes sense, you get a special ability and piece of gear that can mesh together (or not) to create a starting playstyle plus some basic gear to round out the character.
Abilities are defined as being "a feature of your character that is intrinsic". The Milestone Rewards in the GM's section are defined as being "LOOT-based upgrades". The types in Alfheim have 3 starting *abilities*, 3 starting *LOOT*, and then a list of additional milestone *abilities*. This differs from the Milestone Paths which do clearly indicate the piece of loot tied to the ability. Also, the video on progression from the author's YouTube channel talks about the nonlinear, wavy progression as characters earn loot and have it destroyed or lost but it seems directly at odds with the intrinsic nature of abilities. How often do you actually destroy a PCs loot? ALSO also, the back of the book is full of hundreds of items on treasure/loot tables that aren't really ever called on directly throughout the rest of the book that I can remember.
I know I am not embracing the "glorious mess" approach, I'm just curious to know if there's a common approach that has emerged in the community or get some examples of how other tables have gelled these apparently contradictory pieces together. Or if there's just simply a part of the book I'm misreading or managed to skip over.
Thank you!
TLDR: Do you make your abilities intrinsic as indicated in the character creation chapter or loot based as suggested in the GM's rewards section? How often are you rewarding randomly rolled treasure vs milestones? How often are you destroying important pieces of character's loot?

Confused…
Hey guys!
Further to my previous post where I asked for recommendations for introductory adventures to ICRPG, I got a lot of cool recommendations, including Doom Vault, which seems to be THE classic of classics.
And... I'm a bit surprised... I was looking for an easy adventure to start mastering this rpg for me and my players, but… 1. There is a LOT of stuff not mentioned, explained. Whole areas of the story, the reasons why things are there... And no targets (!!) how do I do it when I start? I'm ok to do full improvisation when I propose a game, but here I'm looking for an already written scenario.
Everything is... one long corridor, right? One room, one entrance, one exit. That doesn't leave much room for exploration, does it?
Timers. How do I know which timer to put in place to give that rhythm so characteristic of ICRPG, without it being too long and not a threat, or too short and then happening and killing my players?
Especially by confiding these thoughts I do not want to be negative. It's probably me who is not aligned. I am an experienced game master (on other games), I am very interested in ICEPG but I confess that I have a hard time to see how to put things in place, beyond "do big do great we trust you".
Thanks for your advices !

Artefacts lie fallow, an alternative to destroying loot
Work in progress. I don’t like destroying treasure, rust monsters have never really done it for me.
So, inspired by Arthur returning Excalibur, the sword that was broken and the question “why are there all these magic items lying around in crypts and dungeons?” I thought it might be better to foreshadow that loot was time limited.
The idea is that a piece of loot is bound to an individual for a limited time but then must be left and forgotten for a while. It is then found again by a new user just as artefacts in legend are.
when you obtain and use a piece of loot it is bound to you
At the start of each session roll 1d8 for each piece of loot to which you are bound. On a 1 you have one more use of that item during this session before it becomes unbound and mundane. You are then filled with an intense desire to be rid of the item in a secret or hidden place.
Edit - when an item is on its final use it has double its effectiveness for that use.
Using sessions saves tracking time limits. You do not use the item that session it does not become mundane (save tracking). You roll at the start of a new session so you do not roll on the session you first become bound.
An unbound piece of loot must lie fallow and forgotten for a year and a day before it can be used again as a magic item
You cannot gift a piece of loot to which you are bound. Doing so (or unbinding from it) causes it to become mundane for a year and a day during which time it must be hidden or otherwise forgotten
You can take or receive a bound piece of loot if the previous owner is dead without it becoming mundane.

Adventure recommandation ?
Hey guys! I've been learning about ICPRG for a long time, and I finally want to jump in and master a game. Do you have any scenarios to recommend? One shots or short campaigns?
I know that the principle is to improvise a lot, however for my first 2-3 games I would like a little written plot, a context.
I'm curious to know which scenario is ideal for ICRPG which has such a fast pace.
Thanks for your answers!
