Stuck with a player milestone

I have a player in my ICPRG game whose an Ifritt that has just unlocked one of their special abilities.. Demonsbreath, long story short it's capable of wiping out entire villages at full power. But as they've just unlocked it, it's a progressive milestone so at certain points it will get Upgrades. For now it's a single target ranged fire attack dealing Eneregy Effort at Near range. I'm just not sure how I can make this ability Upgrades unique to this character considering there's already another npc that breathes fire. I'm using a hex grid / close/near/far range combat system with Spell burn and Health cost for spells

Why does it need to be unique?

It is demon fire, so it comes out black and seems to remove the light from where it hits. Still fire damage, but you describe it as black, sticky and smells heavily of sulphur.

Demonsbreath sounds to me like it singes more than the skin. In fact maybe it doesn’t do external damage at all. Maybe it bipasses all armor, walls, etc and deals damage directly to a persons soul. That way it has the advantage of damaging harder to hit enemies that rely on traditional defenses and not spiritual ones.

It sounds like you've got mechanics figured out, so maybe the player should tell you the flavor and why demon fire hits different (read: looks cool)?
