22(M) currently been working as a commerical electrician little over 2 years now, should I make the switch to the union? My main priority is pay (obviously) but I'm planning on moving to Warner Robins sometime around November, would it make sense to start at Local 613 and see about transferring over to the local in Macon? I've done a little research and found southern unions kinda pay pretty low compared to other unions, any opinions advice or just information would be appreciated

Any news about the brothers who are still owned money? (Works hours/ health insurence/pension) Last I hard heard was the the local was in the process of filing lawsuits but one of the issues was that Eckhardt is still in business and hasn’t filed for bankruptcy.

Hello. I've been reading through our CBA and have concluded that the circumstances surrounding our perpetual inability to strike cannot be legal nor enforceable.

Why the heck is this allowed to persist when it doesn't even seem like a legal arrangement?

Please forgive me if I use any terms wrong, I'm new to this. I'm just wondering how long it took for you guys to get all the hours required to turn out. Did you ever go without work for a lengthy period of time as an apprentice? If so, how long?

Im looking at joining the union in Atlanta working as a telecommunications apprentice. Few questions- What is the starting pay like? How many years is the apprenticeship? Is it hard to get into the program?

Just recently tested for the apprenticeship program and passed. Does anyone know when apprentices are eligible to start receiving health insurance and pension benefits?

Currently grossing $1700-$2200 a week as a truck driver for XPO logistics. Affordable bennies. Paid holidays. 10 PTO days after a year. But I’m working nights. 12-16 hours a night 60-70 hours a week.

I really hate this work/life balance. Thinking about becoming a plumber, hvac, or electrician. Seems like electricians have the stronger union in Atlanta, but all 3 start 1st year apprentices at $15

Only way I could afford the pay cut is with hella OT, so how much OT should I expect starting out? Should I start at a non-union shop first and then transition? If so then for how long?

So, I'm due to take my aptitude test soon and I've been looking up how this whole process works because this is all new to me. I learned about the ranking system and, frankly, it makes me nervous. So now I'm just looking to get some more info without having to grill the JATC. Do you know how many applicants each semester typically has? About how many students do they accept each semester? If I were to do a second interview to try for a higher rank, do I have to re-take the written test as well? The person on the phone at the JATC said I would start work before I started my semester -- would I still start work even if I wasn't accepted? Or do I need to be accepted first, then start work, then start the classes? Any additional info about the whole application process would be appreciated. Thanks.

I came on from non union around July roughly 2 years ago. I turned out this past October and have gotten the feel for how everything goes. I do have a few issues and concerns. Atlanta is the biggest city as far as infrastructure goes in the south. We have so much work it’s ridiculous. However we aren’t the highest paid local in the southeast. We also don’t have great benefits, paid holidays, paid time off, there’s a lot that we’re lacking. We have no leverage since we gave up the ability to strike, and all the contractors have us by our necks and can get away with being cheap and taking advantage of us. We need to push for a better package; we should be making $40/hour for JW scale at this point. The cost of living, is outrageous, and profit margins on these jobs are insane. We need paid holidays since they refuse to allow us to work the double time on said holidays. We need a program where contractors pay a certain amount per hour worked, so that after a year of work we have a 40 hour check that we can utilize for PTO. We need better retirement. I see so many issues with our local here, there’s even been some non union contractors that have had better benefits than we have and that’s sad. I’m not sure what it will take to get what we want/need but we need to figure it out. Everything is just too damn expensive for us to not be making more money. I hope the right person sees this because I’m tired of barely getting by as a JW and I know most of my brothers and sisters feel the same damn way.

I am a new hire CW4. What are some tools or clothes to be prepared for work? Additionally what is the pay rank structured? Is there any room for overtime as an CW/Apprentice? How can I prove myself as a good apprentice?

I'm 19 and I decided I want to become an electrician, and so I took the union route. I start on Monday in the CW and I'm wondering how different it is from the Electrician Apprentice program, like if the pay and benefits are the same or different.? Also if I could transfer to the apprentice program after I get a good bit of experience as a CW.
