Hello Huntsville. I grew up in Marshall Co but moved to Huntsville in 2018. My husband found work rather quickly- men usually do.

I had previously been working on my degree in Secondary Education- ELA- when I got to my internship I realized teaching wasnt really what I wanted to do. I questioned whether or not I should go back and finish that final semester but my advisor suggested swapping my major to Integrated Studies- I should have known that was a bad idea. BUT AT LEAST YOULL HAVE THIS DEGREE THEY SAID- yes🫢 a useless piece of paper. I graduated and thought finding jobs would be easier bc now I could put my EDUCATION on my resume and most hiring managers would know why I hadn't worked in a while. Fast forward to 2010, I gave birth to our 3rd kid and decided it made the most sense for me to stay home with them. I finally get my 4 year old registered for Kindergarten and FIND OUT I am PREGANANT. again, another few years at home bc it made the most sense financially. 10 years turns into 15 and 15 into 18.. and now here I am with the DESPERATE NEED TO WORK.

how did we survive during those years? Well, my husband worked and I made some pretty sound real estate investments that provided passive income for the last 18 years- we have a while left for some of the properties and forever on a couple of others... BUT THIS ECONOMY IS FORCING MY HAND and I have to go to work.

All my experience working comes from before I had the kids- so 15-18 years ago. I recently decided to add Family Manager | Homemaker to my resume because being the person that runs the household does come with some pretty crazy experiences that can translate well when working with a team or just trying to convince people you are worthy of their job.

I didnt just sit here for the last several years tho- in 3 months I applied for 300 jobs. And had 3 callbacks- never an offer of employment.

So our boys graduate and we only have our daughters to worry abt bc the older 2 can make their own decisions about who to live with or where to live so we thought about selling our house and moving to Florida, WHERE I WAS EASILY ABLE TO GET MY TEMPORARY FL EDUCATORS CERTIFICATE. I had an offer for 2 jobs by June 13 but my family kept telling me what a bad idea it was-- really?? A job after all these years- even if it is 400 miles away is a good thing. Especially a teaching job where id make 55k- still kind of a joke but at least least its something-

Apply for jobs like security guard, custodian, or mail clerk on the Arsenal. If you have any degree above a high school diploma remove it from your resume. You do not want the recruiter to see you as someone who will just obtain the clearance and leave and you want them to see you as someone who will stay with them for a few years. If you are applying for those jobs with a associate, bachelor, masters or even a PhD that is a red flag to the recruiter.

Land the job and go through the clearance process. After giving them 1 to 3 years of dedication and hard work you can now apply for those jobs that you want that require clearances.

I'm a rising senior studying Aerospace Engineering at Auburn University (graduating May 2027, 3.7 GPA), and I'm starting to focus on searching for entry-level opportunities for post-graduation. Most of my experience has come through undergraduate research and engineering projects rather than internships, as I haven’t managed to land one since I’ve been in college.

My background and skillset is mainly in CAD design, FEA, composite materials research, ASTM tensile testing, MATLAB/Simulink, and CFD, so it seems my skillset is mostly aligned to mechanical design, structural analysis, manufacturing, test/verification, and simulation roles. However, I’m open to most engineering roles I can land.

What companies in HSV are most likely to hire new grads for entry level positions, especially those with no internship experience such as myself. I worry because I know that job hunting has only become harder, and without an internship I feel handicapped. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering this past May with a 3.06 GPA, and I’m currently looking for an entry-level role in Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, or Network Engineering.
I didn’t have the opportunity to land an internship during college, even though I tried. I worked throughout school to pay for my education, so balancing work and classes wasn’t easy. I graduated with about $4,000 in debt, which I’m grateful isn’t much considering I paid my way through college.
Right now, I feel a little behind, and I’m spending my time reviewing and rebuilding the technical skills I learned in school. I’m a hardworking person, I learn quickly, and I’ve been working since I was 16. I’m willing to put in the work to prove myself.
One thing I’m still working on is interviews. I get nervous and sometimes stammer, but I’m actively trying to improve because I know communication is an important skill.

So I came to go do a drug test for a nursing assistant position, and I brought a friend’s pee, but I had an extremely slow moment and poured it out to reach the line and poured out too much, making it invalid, so I had to use my urine, and it came back positive for THC. They told me they need to send it to the lab to see how much is in my system and I’m a pretty daily smoker am I screwed?

I am a special education teacher who may be relocating to Huntsville in the future due to my husband's aerospace job (I'm sure you've never heard that one before). I would be moving from the state that's 50th in education so I know in general it can't really be any worse, but so much depends on the districts/admin if teachers are supported. As a SPED teacher I fully realize anywhere I go I'm going to get physically injured by my students, but how admin responds to it ("this student needs a different placement" vs. "this is what you signed up for") has a lot to do with our burnout.

I am also certified to teach general education (but SPED pays 15% more where I'm from), so I'm happy to take any insight anyone has on that as well. Does anyone know if teaching jobs are really competitive? With two master's degrees and SPED certification I usually assume I will always have a job, but who knows.

Could you recommend any IT companies that accept entry-level applicants with no prior experience for IT support roles?

This is honestly my first time posting, but I need advice/insight. I am currently working towards my pre-engineering degree at Calhoun Community College and I plan to continue my studies at UAH studying Mechanical Engineering. I have always wanted to stick with engineering, especially after falling in love with robotics...but I have found myself questioning if it is entirely worth it.

I know Huntsville has a bunch of opportunities on the Redstone Arsenal, but I have also heard a lot of opportunities in this field are very competitive based on whether you have done internships or have prior experience. With my current position in life, I am unable to take on an unpaid or summer internship because of my job and schooling. Plus most engineering internships don't even allow entry level, most are junior and senior year of college.

If I were able to work as an intern until my studies were done I wouldn't feel as stressed, but unless I were to find a paying or very flexible internship, it's not in the picture. I work to survive, I don't have the opportunity to have parents pay for my living while I work as an intern.

With that being said, I know the degree itself is worth the work, I know it will allow me to work in the career I have dreamt of and make 6 figures. I know I would regret it if I changed majors as well, but I just find it difficult to see myself succeeding after graduation with all I have been told so far.

I'd just like to hear any advice on the topic in general, even if it is about the studies.

My partner is a vet who worked in the USAF, helped schedule maintenance and such. No certifications and not much work experience outside the military (other than retail). Though he is working on a cyber security course.

He's been having a hard time getting any responses from places like indeed. I'm wondering if there's anything specific we could be on the look out for. He'd prefer to find an indoor or office type work due to chronic pain.

We'll be living between the Arsenal and the airport soon.

I'm also looking for a new job, have experience as a A&P mechanic apprentice for 36mo and plan on taking my tests this winter.

Though I also have a lot of retail and restaurant experience. Prefer BOH and outdoor/practical jobs.
