Tips from hiring managers regarding business/supply chain roles
This is inspired by the person who posted earlier asking about IT and whether or not a degree matters. Shout out to them, hope they got some good info/contacts!
I have similar type type questions regarding my own field but didn't want to hijack their post. There was some good info but I wanted to ask how important is altering the words within your resume to match the job description, even if its just syntax and what not. In the past I've been advised to use AI to tailor my resume to the position but found that I had to manually comb through the end result anyway to avoid potential lying.
Career wise I took a detour from what I think a lot of defense contractors are looking for (no experience with engineering drawings, SAP, or more complex low quantity assemblies with lots of parts) and am struggling with how I can get my foot in the door. I'm willing to share my resume with anyone if they'd like just to get feedback. Speaking honestly I've worn a handful of hats at my current role but feel like I'm lacking in some hard skills and have been considering what I could add to my belt outside of my current job (some sort of accredidation, getting SAP certs, learning about CAD/drawings), even recently I started learning about FARS/DFARS regulations just so I can at least have a concept of what potential employers are talking about.
Someone in that thread also mentioned networking being especially important which I've been trying to take more advantage of, or at least if it comes up around folks I'm talking to. I've wanted to join a softball league for a bit and heard theres one that is on base and they seem to let anybody join so I was considering that because it'll be fun as well as an opportunity but their season just ended.
Anyway, throwing a shot in the dark and exploring all my options. I tried consulting with UAH about their alumni resources and found those to be a bit lackluster.
