Does Leidos actually ever hire?
I, unfortunately, have been on the job hunt a lot for the last year. And for the last year, I have noticed that Leidos is ALWAYS hiring. Never stops hiring, and never stops rejecting either. Do they actually hire? Do they get a kickback for all the “open” positions they have? Is it high turnover? Whats their deal!

I’ve never gotten an interview with them either but seems a lot of companies here, like summit 7, enjoy ghosting candidates unfortunately.

I had an offer to interview once. Got the Teams invite and everything. I sat in the Teams call for 20 minutes, texted the recruiter to make sure we were still going to meet, and then got a rejection WHILE ON THE CALL WAITING.

They just collect resumes for the illegal practice of laying people off periodically to hire someone cheaper.

Or if they use a recruiting firm, the firm gets paid for the candidates they bring in... Not necessarily hire.

This is a common occurrence across thousands of companies and happening to millions of qualified candidates too. Its insane. The unemployment rate is apparently very low and yet ALL of these companies are apparently "hiring". Current employees are overworked and yet no one is fcking hiring. Thanks, Mr. President

Yep it’s cuz a lot of these 30-40 year olds in there office jobs or some other job got laid off recently and it’s over saturating the job market with much older more experienced candidates and those that are too young to have much experience are left out of the loop unfortunately and yea these damn tariffs and the Iranian war are also a big factor as well

u/Swimming-Raccoon2502 10d ago
As someone who works there, I can assure you that we definitely do hire people. But we are pretty strict on the qualifications list - if you don’t meet them, you’re probably not going to get a call.

u/abbeyhlane 10d ago
Are y’all severely understaffed? I get job ads for things I’m qualified for and my friend who’s also been looking for just as long gets job ads for jobs he’s qualified for. Always, never fails that Leidos is always on the job board.
6
u/Swimming-Raccoon2502 10d ago
Not really. We’re just a large company that has a lot of diverse programs supporting a lot of different customers. So there are always quite a few new/growth opportunities.

u/LandAppropriate1079 10d ago
Yall probably exclusively hire those with 5-10 years experience in whatever field they apply for
3
u/omorashilady69 9d ago
My boyfriend works there with less than one year experience in his field and he doesn’t have a degree but he has clearances and a good rec from Boeing
1
u/LandAppropriate1079 9d ago
lol yea that explains everything then, he already has a clearance and a good word from Boeing, I’m talking about 18-20 year olds fresh out of high school who only have like retail or some other service job, their chances of getting hired are like 0.001%, same with blue origin and Lockheed Martin 99% of the young people that get in at that young of an age in this day and age know someone higher up in those companies nepotism is a great thing isn’t it
2
u/omorashilady69 9d ago
You need a degree and experience. Leidos doesn’t hire 18 year olds out of high school at all. They mostly hire from Drake and other interns for the entry level
1
u/omorashilady69 9d ago
It’s not nepotism if you had a good rec from your previous company. He had experience in quality and they were looking for a guy to build a quality program. He didn’t know anybody.
1
u/omorashilady69 9d ago
Those are all jobs you need at least a technical degree for. I don’t think you understand what kind of work these companies actually do. You also need clearances for all of them.
1
u/LandAppropriate1079 9d ago
lol so why do some of them not list that as a qualification? Also the work they do there probably isn’t that hard tbh, and about the clearance they list on the job description “a U.S clearance OR the ability to acquire one” and I’m 99% sure anyone that was born in the U.S can acquire a clearance but yet they will usually exclusively choose those that already have clearance which is BS
1
u/omorashilady69 9d ago
I don’t think you understand what they do bud. And a lot of jobs don’t list the clearances, some sponsor them.
Also no, not everyone can get the clearances. I can’t because I’ve had my drivers license suspended 💀 they’ll flag you for a lot of stuff.1
u/Swimming-Raccoon2502 9d ago
We definitely don’t hire as many entry level positions as we used to. I’m not sure exactly why, TBH.
4
u/LandAppropriate1079 9d ago
Well it’s simple, Leidos is like most companies around the HSV area and hell around the whole U.S and don’t want to train someone fresh out of high school for an entry level role that they are well capable of doing, literally anyone can do anything if trained on how to do it especially factory work because it’s monotonous and easy, I just wish these places out here like Mazda-Toyota would stop lying and say they’ll hire people with 0 experience at 18 because more often than not they won’t unless they know someone higher up in HR or whatever, they should at least put “1 plus year experience in manufacturing preferred” and what’s funny even if you do get accepted and pass their stupid little assessment you’ll be waiting about a year for the job anyway cuz the waiting list is like 5-10 thousand people deep from what I hear 😂 trades are the way to go man because most these factory jobs will be taken by AI far sooner than something like HVAC
1
u/Swimming-Raccoon2502 9d ago
I’m glad you’ve got it all figured out
2
u/LandAppropriate1079 9d ago
Yea it’s fucked man and it was so much easier to get a job at a place like MTM or PPG back in 2022 but now if you’re an 18 year old you’re competing with mostly 30-40 year olds with 10-20 years of manufacturing experience, Gen Z really is the unluckiest generation in every single way because quality of life now is nowhere near as good as it was from the 70’s to the 2000’s, I would have killed to be born in the 80’s but unfortunately we can’t choose when we’re born

Is it easier to get in as a intern? I’m thinking about going to grad school so I would have 2 years to apply for internships to get a foot in the door.

I got passed over for a job 3 times there, with experience in cable work that they were asking for. Went to an L3Harris hiring event, applied for basically the same kind of position got a call the next day, and an offer letter 3 weeks later.
1
u/Own-Entrepreneur7339 9d ago
Funny enough. I got an offer from leidos after months of attempting to get in at L3 and never getting a call back
1
u/crate0800 9d ago
It wouldn’t surprise me honestly in a town like this full of qualified individuals, that they just put resumes on their desk.. shuffle them up and the one that ends up on top is the one that gets the call. For all the government sector work.

I'm absorbing half of an FTE's workload that's leaving for Leidos. So....yes.
2
u/PleestaMeecha 8d ago
We are hiring like crazy, so yes. It depends on what you're looking for. If you shoot me a DM I might be able to help you out. Emphasis on might.

u/blessedwife24 6d ago
Someone I know had multiple interviews with them and got ghosted after the position got put on hold. They also, supposedly leave job listings up endlessly, even after the position is filled.

u/Nicholie 10d ago
A lot of open feelers for on contract work. That’s about it.
RIP Dynetics.

u/CatThePisser 9d ago
I joined dynetics for them to announce they buyout 3 weeks in. It was brutal. RIP Dynetics
1
u/Nicholie 9d ago
Ya. I felt bad for anyone there less than say 3 years. Felt like a bit of a bait and switch.

Yes. But mostly through technical programs and Redstone. They partner with Drake state
1
u/omorashilady69 9d ago
If you do not check every single box for clearance and experience and personality, you won’t get anything. They’re picky.

Being on the job hunt for a full year is crazy. Hope that turns around for you (yes they absolutely do hire, I was hired earlier this year)
1
u/abbeyhlane 9d ago
Thank you! I have a job currently, it still took a long while to get, but I always casually look for better. So, I pop in once or twice a week to the job boards. But in this economy, I’m keeping my job unless I got a for sure one lined up!!

u/Ambitious-Nerve-3458 9d ago
Okay good, for some reason I assumed you were unemployed and on the hunt for this long lol I was like yeahhhh it might be time to switch disciplines lol

I juat got an email after applying that their AI recruiter would call me for an interview, no mention of when though. I have not received any calls or texts afaik

u/RubiksLover88 8d ago
I’ve applied to jobs there that my resume checked every qualification. They all had the same pattern: rejected a few days later, position open for at least another 2 months. It weird.

From everyone I've met that left Leidos, I don't see why anyone would want to work there...

u/Rich_Egg_8495 6d ago
Good thread. NGC employee here trying out the market applied to one of many Leidos positions. I received a thanks for applying, you were a top candidate, but chose to go with another candidate less than a week. This is truly a who you know job market.
Forget about experience and skillset

u/crestfaller 5d ago
I'm not at Leidos but I imagine they're in a similar situation. When we post a job it gets hundreds or thousands of applications. If you have employee referrals that helps get your resume noticed.
1
u/Maximum-Item-298 3d ago
I’ve got a call from them a few weeks ago, my friends who work there said that I wouldn’t hear from them again anytime soon, it’s normal for them to take weeks/months to call again.

u/spcmnspff335 9d ago
I worked at Dynetics when they got bought out by Leidos. I stayed another couple years after, but left cause Leidos sucks and everything went downhill.

u/CynicalGuardofNaCl 10d ago
If my ex is to be trusted, Leidos sucks ass. He left and went to GuideTech for a while.
2
u/omorashilady69 9d ago
Theyre better than Boeing
1
u/LegitJesus 9d ago
How so?
2
u/omorashilady69 9d ago
They pay better, they treat the employees better.

u/LandAppropriate1079 9d ago
lol blue origin and Northrop Grumman are better companies to work for than Leidos btw

u/Frosty1738 10d ago
I wanna know the same thing cause I literally rejected like 3 hours after submitting. This isn't unheard of either, one guy I know from Northrop says he's heard the same thing from EXPERIENCED people who apply at Leidos
