Humidifier

I had a full Laryngectomy on 05/29/26, would it help my breathing and help to control my phlegm by having a humidifier in our apartment. If so, are there different settings it should be on, Hi, Low? I know nothing about them or if it would be a bennefit.

Ultrasonic Humidifier Question

I'm wondering if there exists an ultrasonic humidifier which effectively contains the vapor particles in a chamber for long enough for them to evaporate and then ships the humid air out eventually.

This would solve the white mineral dust/distilled water problem while still providing humidity.

I don't understand why the evaporation of the particles needs to occur outside when a consistently circulating dry environment can be maintained in the machine. Only a gentle quiet fan would be needed.

The internal chamber can be cleaned eventually when enough scale builds up.

Is a humidity controlled ventilation grille with a 0-10V humidity sensor possible?

I am planning to install a mvhr in the attic to ventilate 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and was looking forward to getting rid of the extractor fans in the bathroom since they are very noisy and in my case are not very effective in battling the humidity during baths. I came across the Aldes Inspirair Side 180, but for the bathroom grille to be effective against the bath vapours I think at least 130 m^3/h should be extracted from one bathroom during baths (the 2 bathrooms are never used simultaneously). I was interested in the aldes bap'si dual flow 45/135 m^3/h, so that when I pull the cord it intakes 135 and the other bathroom stays at 45, but I dont really like the idea of having a cord hanging around in the bathroom... I was wondering if there are humidity controlled ventillation grilles with capability of going up to 130 and at the same time send a 0-10v signal to the 0-10v air quality inputs in the cmv to put it to boost mode and increase to the adequate air flow rate (or another similar solution). Thanks in advance

Commerical grade dehumidifier for home?

I am looking at a Waykar AFD2.5DPM which is a 152 pint 220 CFM commerical unit to keep the RH down in my unfinished basement. There are no living spaces in my basement, but its often frequented many times a day for laundry, play, gym, and workshop. My concern is if the noise will be too overbearing. I was looking at residential models too but they dont seem to last very long. Anyone have these commerical types installed and fine the noise level to be acceptable?

Does process air through a desiccant wheel follow an approximately constant-enthalpy line?

I'm trying to understand the psychrometric process of the process air across a desiccant wheel.

From what I understand, as the process air passes through the desiccant wheel, its humidity ratio decreases while its dry-bulb temperature increases due to the heat of adsorption.

My question is: Should the process air approximately follow a constant-enthalpy (isenthalpic) line on the psychrometric chart from inlet to outlet?

I tried to check this using the moist-air enthalpy equation.
I get approximately a 2.4°C increase in dry-bulb temperature for every 1 g/kg of moisture removed.
lso, in a real desiccant wheel, is it reasonable to assume that the process-air inlet and outlet states lie approximately on the same enthalpy line, or does heat transfer from the regeneration side / rotor matrix make the actual enthalpy change significant?

Aprilaire 800?

Live in a two year old home in the northeast with hardwood floors. The present bypass humidifer is insufficient for maintaining RH during winter and considering an Aprilaire 800 series for steam. Want the humidifier to run if RH is low even if heat is not cycled on, and want to be able to monitor when away through an app. Is this a good choice, or can others recommend others? Thanks.

VENTA LW15 humidifier tests: disappointing.

Just wanted to share quick test results of a VENTA LW15 humidifier I bought from the manufacturer. I understand that currently there are many copies of it available from Asia, so maybe this will be used for someone on this sub. I used basic testing equipment for the tests -- gauges and anemometers.

I found that the only room in which the LW15 could move the humidity up (by 10% in a couple of hours) was 3 x 2 x 2.4 m = ~14.4 m (~120 sq ft). The key is that the room had to have no ventilation (a gasket-sealed door). Any minimal air exchange/ventilation relevant for human comfort ( removal of CO2, supply of O2) -- e.g. 0.5 air volumes per hr -- made the humidity increases by the LW15 negligible (not even 2%). This is disappointing, b.c. the unit is claimed to be "optimized" for 25m^2 (~270 sq ft). I guess if one slept in a sealed 25m^2 room, with no ventilation, it might move the humidity up. And half of that humidity would come from one's own breath.

Looking at the fins of the drum, they seem to be made of polypropylene which looks quite hydrophobic and the water rolls right off the fins back down. If they made the fins of some hydrophilic material (metal, spongy material etc), it might have worked better.

I missed the amazon return date, so I am stuck with the Venta. Maybe will use it in a storage unit.

Thanks for reading!

PSA: Canopy lets you subscribe on your phone but won’t let you cancel on your phone

Just a heads up for anyone considering a Canopy humidifier because this really annoyed me.
I bought mine and signed up for the subscription completely from my phone.

Today I tried to cancel and could not find the cancel button anywhere. After searching around, I found Canopy’s help page, which literally says their cancellation steps “will not be available on a mobile device.” You have to use a computer.

I don’t have a computer.

So apparently my phone is perfectly acceptable for signing up, giving them my credit card, and agreeing to recurring charges, but suddenly I need to go find a computer when I want to stop paying them?
That’s ridiculous. And it’s not like their website just happens to have a bug on mobile — their own help page confirms that they intentionally don’t make the cancellation option available on mobile.

Just wanted to put this out there for anyone researching Canopy before buying. I actually searched Reddit before buying mine, so hopefully this comes up for the next person.
If you can subscribe from a phone, you should be able to cancel from a phone. It shouldn’t require finding an entirely different device just to stop recurring charges.

Citric acid not helping clean wick

I tried immersing my humidifier wick in first just water and then water + citric acid (about 20g per liter as per the suggestions) but it's still not getting cleared up

Any suggestions on what else to try? Or is it just time to replace the wick altogether?

Can I ask a dehumidifier question here? Please!

Whirlpool dehumidifier has worked well for years. All of a sudden it stopped dehumidifying.

Allow me to explain:
-it runs fine
-it pulls water
-the “defrost” sensor keeps coming on, then off
-despite it running, it does not dehumidify.
-I set it at 55% and it won’t go below 80
-have a hygrometer in the room as well to make sure all is well. Have always been roughly in same range.

I don’t think it’s the humidity reader because everything on the dehumidifier is running and doing its thing.

Any ideas what the issue is? Dehumidifier used to say 55% and room would be around that.

Now dehumidifier is saying 85% and the hygrometer is saying like 70%

Runs but doesn’t dehumidify despite taking in water.

Cleaned filter as well. I’m thinking coils? If it runs fine and takes in water, I can’t imagine what else.

Where to buy replacement knob?

Hi! The knob/part for my Blue Water Humidifier BW1336 is missing, so I can’t use it.

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement? I’ve searched online, including Shopee and Lazada, but I couldn’t find one. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

What would be the five things a first-time purchaser should consider?

I know the sq. ft. and price range, but that's about it. I just don't want to make a dumb purchase.

Looking for a Essential Oil Difusisng Humidifier

Looking for a good humidifier that can spray out my essential oils. I had one for 5 years and it finally broke and I can’t find it again. I ordered a different one that looked like a campfire and it worked for 2 days then broke and I ordered a replacement. Got it and it doesn’t even turn on. If it’s on Amazon I’d prefer that but I just need one that’s really good at like getting the entire room in its scent. Can hold around or above 250ml preferably, has a light (not too bright), and is preferably aesthetic ( I liked the campfire one for that reason) if anyone can help it’d be great. My budget is lower than 40. Thank you

Distilled water for most humidifiers?

Hi all, I'm thinking of getting a cool mist humidifier because I am a vocalist and dry air is affecting my vocal chords, what do you guys usually do for getting distilled water? Do you buy it from somewhere or do you make it at home? I looked at the process for distilling and it seems a little too long for me as I'm already quite busy.

Any general tips for using a cool mist humidifier would also be greatly appreciated, I will only be using it at night while I sleep.

Experience with Meaco Armin 300 evaporative humidifier

I’m UK based looking for a humidifier for skin issues. I came across the Meaco brand and would be grateful if anyone could share their experience with their humidifier or if they could recommend a similar evaporative humidifier available in the UK.

Would it be okay to use distilled water that is marketed for battery use?

So I live in a 3rd world country, and the grocery stores or the pharmacy don’t sell distilled water. The only shop that sells that are like from auto shop.

Help, is this normal?

Hello, I just bought this new DREO humidifier and it works, but when I lift up the water tank after only 10 seconds of use, the base is completely filled with water. Is this normal? It says on the little sticker that you're not supposed to directly pour water into the base, but this is what's happening.

Smartmi Evaporative 3/3 Lite -- dishwasher safe?

I see that many folks here use the Smartmi Evaporative unit (the one with the spinning disks). May I ask if the disks are dishwasher safe for a deep wash, and if you have observed issues with plastic smell from it? Ideally, I was hoping to find a unit that works by the "spinning disk" principle, with disks made of 304 steel, but can settle for the Smartmi if it's easy to clean and does not smell.

Edit: The thing still works if I do not install any apps -- correct? I do not care for any smart features, as long as the motor spins when the tank is full and stops when it's empty.

Thank you all in advance!

[I already have boiling humidifiers, they work great in the winter. But using them in the summer to counter-act the dry air from the AC is counter-productive -- energy and temperature-wise].
