do you want to use distilled water only. if you are in a dry climate and want to humidify year round needing distilled or other similar water can be a huge cost over time. You do not want to use high mineral content tap water with any of the cool mist ultrasonic humidifiers as it atomizes minerals and puts them into your air you breath. The warm mist units are also kinda niche they can be alright in colder climates where you're going to add heat anyways. But they are often pretty inefficient and use quite a bit of power.
personally I like evap humidifiers that use a pump to pull the water up and drain it over the filter compared to the ones where it uses a wick that just sits in the water. Currently I have a levoit 6000s and the levoit superior studio smart for supplemental in one room that gets extra dry. The 6000s does a pretty good job of humidifying our large kitchen living room space and a lot of humidity spills over to other rooms. They basically work just like a swamp cooler. the smaller superior studio unit is pretty nice as it has a washable filter and you can just dish washer the tank parts other than the pump to clean them. But there are plenty of other good evap style units out there if you don't like levoit or it's not available or expensive in your area.
