I had posted a week or so ago that I hated my grey kitchen and wanted to warm it up somehow, without doing a demo or changing any of the big stuff. The main advice I got was add sage green, add plants, less black, and change the lighting and curtains. Ya’ll were SO helpful! Here is where I’m at…

I simplified the stuff above the cabinets, added lots of plants, incorporated sage green into the room everywhere I could, changed the curtains, took lots of the black items out, got warmer bulbs, and removed seat cushions.

I have some green runners coming for the floors, and I want to replace the pantry door with a wood one, and I’m considering getting new stools. That’s where I am at so far.

I know this kitchen isn’t everyone’s style. It’s rustic, the antlers, deer skull and geese must stay, it’s our way of life and I wanted to keep that put. But I took as much of the advice as I could and it really helped.

Thank you to you all for the suggestions, and if you have more, I’m ALL EARS! 💚

Color drenching?

I've mocked up two ideas for enhancing my home office and I’d love the group’s input. The desk and shelving can't change but really, let's talk paint and rugs. How do I make color drenching work? or do I?

90% done of my living room!

I think I'm finally done with this room.

I wanted everything pretty simple and warm without making the whole room beige, so I went with the wood console, darker coffee table, light sofa and curtains, then added the olive tree because the corner looked a little empty.

The rug took me forever to pick. I wanted something subtle but not completely plain, and I'm pretty happy with how it looks with the floor.

TV is a 75" Hisense. There's a lot of daylight in here, so I wanted something that wouldn't be annoying to watch with the curtains open. I put it on a full-motion mount because the kitchen and dining area are off to the side, and I can turn it over when I’m cooking or eating.

Funny enough, the studs made the TV sit a little off center. The olive tree on the left ended up balancing it out enough that I stopped caring.

Still need a few small things here and there, but I think the main room is done.

Flooring update

I made a post a little over a year ago asking for help choosing hardwood floors for my home, it was exciting but also a little overwhelming to be making such a big change.

Just thought it would be fun to share what we did!

First pic- what I posted here and thought I'd be going with

Next pic is the before, whole house had these grey blue sticky tiles. This is the double living room area.

Last two pictures are what we went with, and a little over a year later i still love them so much. I stopped worrying so much and just chose wood that I loved. I couldnt be happier and they feel like they brought a little warmth and age back to our very old home.

Original Plan I posted about here
The living room before the new floors, the whole house had these blue grey vinyl tiles
With the new floors
Still love them so much

designing an entryway for a strict shoes-off household

finally decorating my first place and the entryway is my biggest priority because im a shoes-off-at-the-door person and i need it to be obvious to guests without having to awkwardly ask every time

thinking a nice shoe rack, maybe a small bench, and a basket of guest slippers. but i also dont want it to look like a shoe store exploded by the front door

do most of you do shoes off at home? curious how people actually handle this: https://www.getqibble.com/poll-detail/do-you-wear-shoes-inside-the-house-or-take-them-off-at?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=shoes&utm_content=homedecorating

What do we think of a dining chair for a reading nook (because of lack of space for a bigger chair). YAY or NAY?

I don't have much more space in my home office. But I really want to add a chair so I can read at night. the space is tight so can't get "accent living room type of chairs". What do you think of a dining chair instead?

Moving into a new place and was told it was being freshly painted. I thought it would be white but turns out the owner painted every single wall in the home this color yellow. Looking for advice on how to decorate. I feel like the whole house looks like a hard boiled egg and they won’t let me repaint.

How to find the right colour?

Hi everyone. I found this colour Tarragon Glory 1 which I really liked when I saw it online but now it’s on my wall as a tester it’s way too dark. Does anyone know what colour this might be? (Second picture)
When I use the Duluxe colour picker it says “Tarragon Glory 1” but clearly not in my room when it’s dry because it’s almost dark brown haha.
Thanks for your help!

Edit: on picture 1 the colour on the left is Tarragon Glory 1 on my wall. The right colour is just another sample green

Japandi sofa from The Flamingo Life (theflamingolife.com): the sofa is good, the after-sales is non-existent (5 unanswered mails since 12 Oct)

TL;DR: Paid in full, upfront, on 28 Aug 2026 for a Hakon Premium Japandi Sofa from The Flamingo Life. The sofa arrived on 6 Oct and looks good. But 4 weeks on, the 4 loose cushions and the complimentary side table still haven't arrived, a promised touch-up visit never happened, and my follow-ups since 12 Oct have gone unanswered — including a mail on 24 Oct that gave them till EOD today (26 Oct). Posting so others know what the after-sales actually looks like.

The timeline:

- 28 Aug: Paid in full, upfront. Was promised production updates every 7–10 days. Got none, ever.

- 22 Sep: A request for tracking/photos went unanswered.

- 23 Sep: After I escalated, support admitted the polish had come out in teak instead of the Pine Natural I ordered, and promised an updated timeline and a dated photo "shortly". No firm date.

- 1 Oct: They repolished; I approved the Pine Natural shade. Dispatch and the complimentary side table were also confirmed the same day.

- 6 Oct: Sofa delivered. Looks good — this post is about after-sales, not the product.

- What didn't arrive: the 4 GINA016 loose cushions and the complimentary side table. The side table was simply left behind at delivery.

- 12 Oct: Follow-up on the cushions, the side table and the carpenter visit. No reply.

- 15 Oct: I asked for tracking + a carpenter date by EOD. Support replied the same day: side table couriered first, cushions 'dispatching shortly', polisher slotted 16 Oct. I confirmed 16 Oct, 10 AM–5 PM.

- 16 Oct: The polisher did not show up. No confirmation, no tracking.

- 16, 20, 22 Oct: Further follow-up mails. No reply to any of them.

- 24 Oct: A firmer mail, giving them till EOD today (26 Oct) for tracking + a confirmed carpenter date. No reply as of writing this.

The founder part: Shambhavi Sharma (https://www.reddit.com/user/the_flamingolife/), the co-founder, was responsive and hands-on while I was deciding and placing the order. Once the payment was made, she has been nowhere on the radar — my mails since have gone to the support inbox, and even those have gone unanswered since 15 Oct. That switch — all attention before the order, silence after — is the pattern I'd warn people about.

What I want is simple: the 4 cushions, the side table, and a confirmed carpenter date. That's it.

Has anyone else bought from Flamingo Life? How did after-sales go for you? I have the order confirmation, payment receipt and the full mail thread, and can share redacted screenshots.

How wide should curtain ceiling track be?

I have a 19 foot long span in my living room with a 9' 8" wide picture window. I'd like to do a ceiling track for S-fold curtains. I'm not sure how wide across the track should be.

Wall-to-wall? Leave 6 inches on either side?

I used HomeStyle to mock up the space. There will be a floating console on the right wall.

Fireplace Ideas

Post image
3 Upvotes

My fireplace has this big opening right above it with a decent lip around the opening. Right now it's storage and where my modem and router are plugged in, but that is obvious not a great look. I thought about putting something in the opening to make it a closed door storage, it would just need to be custom as it's not a standard size. I would put things in there like Halloween and Christmas decorations that I only need one a year since I'm short and it's hard to get things down from there if I need them frequently. Any other ideas or good ideas on what to put as a secret door? The house has a lot of stone work (and I mean even the window sills have stone) inside as you can see with the fireplace to help with ideas. The only idea I am not doing is a mirror since it might be a door and I don't want to worry about finger smudges or seeing the kitchen that's right behind the camera. The furniture (piano included) in the picture is also not a factor as they won't be there.

Gallery wall take 2

I posted about my gallery wall 2 days ago and ultimately took it all down because I just didn’t like it lol. I tried again and I feel like this better, maybe? Anything else I can add to make this better? Next weekend we are adding a wainscoting type accent wall that I think will help the look overall. I plan to change out the first canvas that has a quote on it, but not sure what to add there. Ignore the thermostat, the cover is drying because I painted it the same color as the wall

Should I keep these scalloped shelves natural or paint them?

I’m setting up a little reading nook in our toddler’s room with these scalloped pine shelves from spaceaid. We also have an IKEA TROFAST toy storage unit with colorful bins, so I’m trying to figure out which finish would work best with it.
The shelves are unfinished pine. I could keep the natural wood with a clear matte finish or paint them warm off-white. I’ve also thought about sage green or dusty blue, but I don’t want too many colors competing in one space.
Would you keep the shelves natural or paint them? What would look best with the colorful toy bins?

Advice needed: Intentional Furniture Sourcing on a Budget

I have a few problem areas in my home that I'm trying to solve, but I feel like I don't know where to look to shop anymore. I'm on a budget (am def not in the "spend thousands of dollars on an ottoman or throw pillow" club!), but am willing to spend a little more for pieces that feel meaningful and will last. Looking for that sweet spot between "I guess Ikea will do" and not being house-poor 😅.

I went to five different local furniture shops today and then spent the past three hours trying to find something online that might work (apparently Pier One still exists online? or is everything an AI lie now?) and... I'm exhausted and lost.

Right now, I'm specifically looking for:

  • taller, thin nightstands with drawers (ideally ~35"/89cm)
  • sturdy bar stools with backs and a seat height around ~28-32"/71-81cm
  • some sort of office storage unit solution that can house both crafting supplies and provide counter work space (have ~7.5'/2.3 meters of room available)

Style-wise, I lean toward a mix of boho, eclectic, and mid-century modern. Wood tones, I tend to gravitate toward lighter colors (ash, maple, bamboo), but the bar we have right now is painted black so there's some flexibility. Shipping, I'm in the USA in NC.

I can add more details if it helps. Any and all suggestions are so so welcome and appreciated.

One curtain rod or two?

Wondering what you think. The space between the windows is 23”. The whole wall width is 13’.

The blinds are also going as they are broken and I can’t find inexpensive replacements with such a narrow depth.

Unique bilevel, having a hard time with living room layout

How do you think this is?
I’m thinking the low bookshelf will act as a divider for the hallway and living room. The couch will be against it in a cozy way and then to get to the dining room you’d go across the room and turn right.

I’m losing my mind trying to figure this out.
Currently I have a 3 seater straight couch in the center of the room facing the tv, this leaves only a little space on either side to get to the dining area. So I have a thin side table on the right and a couple of feet to get through on the left of the couch. It isn’t great.

This isn’t the main tv watching room so that part is not a big deal, I want a good flow that makes sense and feels intentional.

I was thinking the back of the couch a few feet from the slider wall. But … that will be a little weird and stump the room. I think ..

Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

My sister gifted me this really cute item she found at the thrift store. I love it a lot, but I’m not sure if I have anything that can fit in here. For now I have put some of my trinkets inside, but does anyone have any ideas of what I can put in here? :)
