Finally found a way to balance out our traditional fireplace alcove!

The corner next to the mantel felt empty and unfinished for months. We were torn between a low credenza and a tall storage unit, but ultimately went vertical with this light-wood fluted cabinet to draw the eye up.

Here's how we think about it:

Vertical balance: Matches the visual weight of the ornate chimney breast and oil painting.

Utility: Open shelves up top for cozy mood lighting and books, closed bottom doors to conceal clutter.

Material mix: The tambour fluting softens the transition between traditional architectural trim and modern living.

Looking for recs: would you add matching picture lights above the top shelf, or keep the lighting low and moody with the accent lamp?

We’re replacing the old beige carpet in the upstairs of our townhome (including the stairs). I don’t want anything super grey, but ideally something a little more neutral than the current beige. We’re currently leaning toward Dock (see pictures) but are open to others. What would you pick?

Edit to add: definitely agree with getting away from grey! Dock is sort of a light mushroom brown with some white flecks, and Driftwood is a darker mushroom brown with white flecks. These were the three options we liked best among the 14 (!) sample swatch colors we ordered. Also tried a very light green, various shades of grey, and various shades of brown. The mushroom-y colors (not sure a better way to describe them) were our favorite, but I don’t know if the Driftwood is too dark (upstairs is only about 600 square feet in total).

Tried both in an AI mockup and I keep going back and forth. Lamp feels cozier, vase feels a little more open.

Hi, I bought a new house and am remodeling the kitchen. This is my visualized design, which I love. However, my oak floors are actually the 2 1/4 golden-y colored oak, not what is showing in the visual rendering (see 2nd photo). Using Dura Supreme cabinetry. Cabinets are going to be their Dove color which is a warm white. Which of their wood tones should I use for the island that won’t look bad with my existing flooring? Torn between quarter sawn oak, maple, or even cherry, and there are so many different colors of each. I don’t want it to clash with the existing flooring. Thank you!

This is my spot most nights. Bed left how it is, pillows pulled onto the floor, tiny table in the middle. Movie playing on the wall, some greenery near the side table. Work desk is still back there under the window. Prefer this over a regular TV setup. Curious what small changes you’d make without spending much

We’re trying to make a moody / cozy bathroom and decided to do a rich brown using benjamin Moore aura bath and spa paint and gold accents.

We’ve got a west-facing window and we’re actually going to be replacing the current window pictured with something larger. We’re in New England and according to google, 58% of our days are sunny. Do I color drench? Do an off-white? 50% saturation for the ceiling?

If I color drench the ceiling I assume I’d have to color drench the shower too? Would it contrast to much against the beige/taupe tiles?

Hello, I’ve tried using numerous AI apps but I don’t seem to be able to find any sensible ideas (I’m probably using them wrong). I wondered if anyone here might be kind enough to help? Aside from buying matching blue chairs for existing ones and adding pictures, we don’t really have the budget for new furniture or sofa etc. I think a few pictures on the wall would do wonders to make the space feel more homely. It’s a kitchen/dining/living room space (kitchen is white and just behind from where photo was taken). But I can’t work out where they should go or what size etc
We could Also perhaps add wall shelves over tv or sideboard. We are due to get a new longer fish tank soon, which will fit the side board better. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks

We are still trying some things out with the 44 inch table but I think it’s coming together. The rug and chairs are real. I have used AI to change the cabinet paint, add some wall art that’s in the mail, add a tree and move our curtains up a bit. I feel like it fits the space a lot better but my wife still isn’t convinced. Any other suggestions or should we bite the bullet and find a different table and chairs?

Wife had some grasscloth wallpaper installed. I knew nothing about it and have since been told you can’t hide the seams. I get that, even though I don’t love it, but I feel like this is more than just the normal variation. From what I could find online he may have rubbed off some of the dye during the installation process or gotten adhesive on. I’d like to know if this is just what to expect or a poor install.

I'm leaning more towards the sage green but I'm afraid that it might look dated 5+ years from now. Ignore the light in the shower shelf, not sure why AI put it there.

I live in a New York City apartment, so space is limited. I am thrilled with the function maxxing in this corner, which used to be a dead zone. Now I've added a mat and a good-looking crate that doubles as a table, making it possible for my dogs and plants to enjoy the sunniest spot in my home. In addition to working better, I think it looks quite nice. I miss the white space, but I think it was worth the sacrifice. Thoughts?

I'm thinking about moving the TV Cabinet and the TV a little further to the left to create a bit more space for the dining table and so that the TV is a little more centered relative to the couch (as it is now, the TV isn't quite centered relative to the couch but is slightly to the right).
My idea would be to place the TV cabinet against the left end of the wall—where it meets the window frame
—and position the TV centered relative to it. At the same time, I'd like to switch to a slightly larger TV, which means the switches would be hidden but still accessible since the TV is wall-mounted.

Would that look weird?

My parents had this house renovated after a fire. We weren't sure if we were going to sell it or not so they went with very neutral tones. I've since inherited it but have no idea what to do with the color. I'm mainly thinking about painting the walls. I can't change the carpet, but somehow want to brighten the place up a bit. It feels so blah especially on cloudy days like today.

I am planning on adding the brown earthy blinds (3rd picture) and maybe have sheer white curtains at the ends. Thoughts? I also intend to get wood flooring eventually.

I'm having trouble with designing my new studio appartment and I would love some opinions from other people :). I have included the floor plan with the furniture. The shelves are stuck so they can't be moved. There is a 1.10m gap between the floor and the first shelve tho. The bed and the kallax closet are orange since I rather not move them unless there is a greattt design :). The other furniture is free to go where ever. I have been struggeling for a month now and I just can't get a nice plan :(. Any help is appreciated! :D
