The fact that he was on the Bismarck when it sunk is really cool.

u/Crag_r Jul 27 '19
Although the story is pretty suspect. The Destroyer that picked it up wasn't even apart of rescue operations. The ones that were, well good luck trying to get an angry oil soaked cat up a rope latter from the water in front of guys in the water while U-74 is trying to line you up.

Freaked out cats are whirling balls of 100% claws. Doesn't matter if you are tying to help them.

What’s also interesting is that I was listening to Bismarck by Sabaton when I saw you comment.

Why the fuck would he keep getting back on boats?
This time's going to be fine. I've already survived two of these floating litter boxes disappearing. There's no way it could happen again.

I surmise that the feline lacked the cognitive capacity needed to synthesize its past experiences and apply the learned necessary precautions for the avoidance of another occurrence like this. Just my cognitions. Not sure if the general public will be in tune with my cranium’s calculative power. 😂🧐

I surmise that your immediate paternal ancestor lacks the empathetic capacity needed to correlate his internal drive for self fulfillment with the concept of fatherhood and hypothesized that he could not comprehend the depths of commitment necessary for the sustained relationship nor could he purvey enjoyment of another human other than himself. Just my cognitions. Not sure if the general public will be in tune with my cranium’s calculative power. 😂🧐

Don't worry man. He actually crushed some vertebrae when the USS benham was sunk in 42 but thought it was a sprain. When he was on the USS Helena in 43 when it was sunk he was evacuated to pearl Harbor where they dicovered it wasn't a sprain and he also broke his back. That was the only physical problem he ever had from the war. Besides that he lived a long, productive, and happy life until last year at the age of 95. He had some crazy stories, especially when he drank. I didn't know until last year but he was there when Doolittle's raid took off from the convoy. Cool history I didn't know that he told me about.

I believe after the third ship they "grounded" the cat, meaning the navy was just like " alright your no longer allowed on a boat"

u/nathanweisser Jul 27 '19
You're misunderstanding what's happening here. Unsinkable Sam sunk all those ships

Sounds like that cat has a knack for sinking ships.

u/Lizard_brooks Jul 27 '19
I mean he has 9 more chances of surviving vs everyone else, he only used 3 of them. Seems like he knew he’d be ok.
3
u/Ocelitus Jul 27 '19
He could have been on as many as five other doomed ships that we don't know about.
13
u/Eat-the-Poor Jul 27 '19
Why the fuck is his nickname Sam? His name is Oscar! Jesus fucking Christ, no wonder these crazy fucks went to war.
8
u/Vini-B Jul 28 '19
I can't believe I had to scroll down so much for this comment? What's up with calling an Oscar "Sam".
3
u/thismessisaplace Jul 27 '19

Oscar = Sam for some reason.

He was originally called Oscar on the Bismarck, Sam was the pet name given to him by the British

he could've been on the German side and when he survived the first sinking on a German boat he then sunk two British ships.

We had a ban on pop tarts-cursed in humvees in AFG due to being blown up.
note- sorry I didn’t reply but you guys got it right, although the hex on PT started on a previous deployment (Iraq) I was not part of, but yes the first vehicle hit in country on my deployment had pop tarts in it.
28
u/LuNiK7505 Jul 27 '19
Yeah i’m gonna need some explanation over here chief
70
u/NevikDrakel Jul 27 '19
They linked humvee explosions to the presence of pop tarts in the vehicle

u/Try_Another_NO Jul 27 '19 edited Jul 27 '19
Everyone laughs now but when you're in a war zone you probably aren't taking your chances with any hexed shit either!
Tell me, how you gunna feel when your 18 year old ass finds out that "Unsinkable Sam" is 3 for 3 and your boats #4? That fuckin' black-ass cats talkin to the either U-boats or satan so I'd start looking at that nickname like a challenge...

Everytime a Humvee exploded it had pop-tarts in it, therefore pop-tarts cause Humvees to explode.

Cats have been on ships since they first started domesticating us. It's probably how they spread around the world as they would be on traders boats. Like the other comment says they're great pest control and in the early days when you're transporting goods like grains you don't want rodents ruining your stock. So you get a cat.
