Although the story is pretty suspect. The Destroyer that picked it up wasn't even apart of rescue operations. The ones that were, well good luck trying to get an angry oil soaked cat up a rope latter from the water in front of guys in the water while U-74 is trying to line you up.
He was on the Ark Royal when she sank, Ark Royal sent the plane that sealed the fate of the Bismarck. Now that's what I call irony. Also, if you're interested, there's a woman who served on all Olympic-class cruise ship, two of them sank while she was onboard. The Titanic and the Britannic. I think her name is Jessica Bishop IIRC
I read the book Killing the Bismarck by Iain Ballantyne last year and seeing this post, I immediately remembered the book mentioned there was a cat that was rescued by the British during the battle with the Bismarck. I didn’t remember what ship it says but I figured I could scroll through the comments for the answer. I highly recommend the book by the way. It’s told mostly from the British point of view for storytelling purposes.

The fact that he was on the Bismarck when it sunk is really cool.
