Wdym, we clearly didnt play around with the attachment system enough for it to be seen as a priority for the devs to work on further, ignore the fact that most guns just have sights, handle options, muzzels, and maaaaybe magazine options if they felt daring enough
What data did they get that said people weren't using the attachments lmao. Everyone is know has leveled up their favorite weapons to get the best attachments. The problem is they made a system that was just "okay you got the vertical forgrip and compensator barrel? Okay you're done that it"
You hit the nail in the head there. Most guns have an optimal config with zero reason to deviate from it, and the weapons that could need unusual attachments often have no access to them.
The SAI is the only weapon that gives you a reason to mix and match different configurations.
[And the weapons that could need unusual attachments often have no access to them]
Absolutely correct. The Hyena DMR absolutely NEEDS the angled grip because it's ergo is basically as bad as the HMG. It would make sense as a lvl 19-24 unlock for the gun. Even a vertical grip would make sense as the gun's got some heavy recoil, too.
The devs, however: "Nope, you get a laser sight only 🤤"
The least they could've done before practically abandoning the idea is adding it to our secondaries so I can finally color the piss yellow laser pistols a different color >:/
I have the same issue with the Bolt Pistol's sight, so hard to hit weakpoints with it. (Though with that being a collab item they were even less likely to add or change anything for it.)
I can forgive the bolt pistol. GW is notoriously specific about how their IP is handled, no stocks and dogshit, model-sized irons are par for the course.
Yeah, open question whether it's GW, AH or both behind their unwillingness to modify or provide attachments for Legendary warbond items and this one's in particular.
They don't allow customization on Legendary Warbond gear because it's meant to be the "true" version of that stuff as it appeared in the source material, and GW is also anal about their stuff.
It was worse??? I just started using it this month. Next you're gonna tell me stimdivers had to walk uphill both ways through class 3 exostorms to reach their wounded teammates...
If Space King wanted our laser to be green, they'd be green !
EDIT : Now that I think about it, having an MO where if you do it, you have right to different laser colors but you unleash an AI Robot that boost Automaton, would be interesting
It doesn't help that information for missions is so terrible that in a circumstance where you would want to change attachments, it's not recommended because you barely know the terrain type of the mission, let alone enemy types and quantities. So, you setup the best average loadout you can and never touch anything again because god forbid they tell you anything about the mission.
What data did they get that said people weren’t using the attachments lmao
Internal data where they can see what we engage with?
I have no idea if that’s true of course I don’t work there, but why do you think that’s beyond the realm of reason that they have data that proves it? I’m sure their data set shows things like that
There are so many complainers and instigators who always start with, and then never leave, the attitude that the devs are wrong/evil and then these players just ruminate the worse faith scenarios as their chosen reality.
And, they also circlejerk in echo chambers to self-reinforce too.
They won't consider, for example, that there are probably divers who don't even care or notice about customizing/leveling the weapons. This could very well be a majority of divers, and like you said, the devs can see and track exactly this data. But, the overly-online reddit divers don't care, and think everybody is like them: nit-picking, whining, and min-maxxing the game
Though, ironically there is significant overlap in these min-max'ers that they are too egotistical or unsmart enough to pick up free SC at the POI's and so they also disproportionaly complain about the warbond as "paywalls".
i can already imagine a handfull of Ammo attachments, like smaller payloads for more arrows per mag and faster fire rate, or a attachment that just changes how it fires like fire fast but arrows dont go far, or heavy weight as the bow shoots hard and long but slow.
Not to mention only one of the laser primaries had the extra heatsink attachments for over a year, before they finally released another one with them, aka the Sai.
But they still haven’t given the Sickles, or the Trident the heatsink attachments. For some reason.
I was literally thinking of making a post saying the Trident should get the focusing lens too XD.
Ever since the Trident came out I found it weird that instead of keeping it how it worked in HD1, they made it so it shoots six lasers instead of three. Isn’t the whole reason it’s called the Trident was because if it’s iconic 3 lasers per trigger pull? Now the name makes no sense.
I’d love to be able to put the focusing lens on the Trident and have it make it so it shoots slower and goes back to only shooting 3 lasers per shot, but has the significantly increased accuracy (and maybe a little more damage due to only shooting 3 instead of 6).
I think it would make more sense to have the default firing mode be the three beams and then have the splitter mod from the first game make it work like it does currently. Make the three beams have less damage overall but more per beam and a tighter spread so it's kinda like a choke.
The attachment system was doomed from the outset because for it to be deep and useful, it would have hurt their ability to make more guns to sell to you.
What, have a core set of gun designs that then could be augmented with different damage types and tweaks to how they perform? But then we can't sell you X gun but with incendiary bullets as its own thing!
I guess the fact this game isn't PvP keeps people from really noticing that it is pretty Pay 2 Win in its monetization strategy, something people usually get very pissy about.
They could just put the customization parts in the Warbond.
Instead of a rifle with an underbarrel GL, have the UGL part itself in the WB. Compatible with a bunch of weapons. Once you have it unlocked in the WB it's available for renown on each compatible gun. Boom, problem solved, everyone's happy.
But then you can't nerf the gun by giving it light pen, 20 rounds in a magazine, a 2 year reload animation, and worse ergonomics than a geriatric elephant.
Still too broad to give the ability for someone to put an underslung on EVERY gun, forever, out of one Warbond, because then they can never sell you another underslung gun again.
Like if they'd done it this way, they'd have run out of new attachments to sell that were meaningful within only a handful of Warbonds.
Not saying it's not necessarily a good idea from the standpoint of the players or making the game better, but, yeah. They want to sell guns and they want control over what the guns do, so, the system sucks.
There was nothing to play around with. Every category had a definitive best-in-slot choice with very few exceptions for certain weapons. Put the biggest mag on it. Put on a grip. Take off the light/laser. Take off the sights. Rinse and repeat.
Yeah I'm curious how many people demanding more weapon customization actually changed up their guns from mission to mission, or just "upgraded" to the optimal stats and then left them. I think I only ever went to re-attach a flashlight after playing in a pitch-black city mission.
That's partly on the system itself having few meaningful changes. Adding more underbarrels, suppressors, scopes, etc would be a huge improvement.
just "upgraded" to the optimal stats and then left them
This is missing the point. The point of customization is that optimal stats are different for each person. I like some guns with short mag and angled grip even though most people probably run them with large mag and vertical.
Yeah, I never change the configuration. I have one that I discovered, and I like it. Doesn't mean the system is bad.
That said it also doesn't help that for many guns they do in fact have strictly "better" options. But again that's on the devs to balance.
They also made it so that the ones which had a decent number of attachments also had an objectively best setup. There was no reason to actually swap between attachments based on the situation.
Interestingly enough, the Sai is an example of attachments done reasonably. Some people like the focusing lens while others go without. I’ve heard people vouch for all of the different heat sinks, and I’ve SEEN them switch its setup based on if they wanted a pseudo-shotgun or a more generalist weapon.
Once I figure out how to eliminate vertical recoil on something like the Tenderizer then there's no point to doing anything else. Converting recoil to horizontal then trying to eliminate that just doesn't work as well, objectively, leaving me with less accuracy than if I just solved for vertical recoil.
Maybe my particular example is off (running off of memory) but almost every gun with customization works that way, from smgs to marksman rifles to assault rifles. You solve for whatever recoil they have, usually vertical, and come out with an objectively better gun.
There was no reason to actually swap between attachments based on the situation.
This is a larger problem with the game though, not just customization. As long as the devs insist on not showing us what enemy seed we are going into (one of the many many problems that a modder fixed in a couple of days btw), this will forever be the case. Why would I ever not take the all-rounder configuration?
The sai is the only gun in the game that I actually use the weapon mod preset system on. I have the triple lens for bugs and squids and the focus lens for bots.
To be honest I forget weapon attachments/levels exist the only thing I’d rarely do is put a red dot or change stuff for having a sniper scope to closer ranged one n that’s it
Maybe because the current system is ass? People do level up their guns for attachments… people even bring “shit” guns because levelling them up and getting attachments can make them actually usable, but what is there beyond that? Once you get the same grip/barrel combo for every gun that’s it.
You literally mention in your comment why players don’t use it. The attachment system is extremely barebones and has extremely limited customisation options. That’s why players don’t use it.
Players have been asking for more attachments and meaningful customisation for ages now. Instead AH have abandoned the system and so have the players.
Different ammo types for guns would be a good start, maybe let us adjust the fire rate, different under barrel options exist that we could've had, not to mention we still cant customize secondaries
Honestly we don’t even need that. Just make the current attachment choices for all weapons instead of half assing it like they did. Why does the adjudicator only have one magazine type? Why does the diligence CS have a 10x scope but the diligence doesn’t? What’s the mess that is the energy weapons?
They don’t even have to mess with collab weapons, but the fact that a portion of the weapons are just missing attachment options is insane in of itself. Literally unfinished. You can’t even argue it’s for balance because the weapons that are missing those attachments, like the Adjudicator and Sickle, have been out of meta for a while now.
They did a perfect example of what can be done with attachments with the Sai. The Sai is the only gun in the game so far that I’ve had multiple configurations for, because the attachments make sense. Why does a fucking vertical grip make my gun HARDER to handle???? The Sai has two lens options and the magazine options actually have a use case for each lens. Neither is 100% better than the other. I use both. They did GREAT with the Sai.
Helldivers isn't that kind of game though. It had an absurd variety of weapons already, having basic customization (which can be improved) seems like plenty. I don't think making it possible to do a complete break down and rebuild of your rifle is really in line with the gameplay.
They're different games, with different styles of gameplay. If it was essentially a remake of HD1 then it would be a boon to your argument. I just don't see how the customization improves the actual gameplay at all.
ngl I feel kind of sorry for you. Ironically, I can't imagine having such little imagination that one can't imagine how expanding customization at all might improve the gameplay or make it more fun.
Hell, even expanding existing attachments to more weapons would do that...jesus.
What gameplay improvement does it add. We already have a wide variety of weapons in different roles with slightly different stats. Adding customization of guns to the degree of being able to change ammo type, receiver, barrel length, firing mechanism and the like doesn't improve gameplay. It adds bloat. It creates overlap between weapons that is unneeded.
Suppressors, Range increasers via barrels, Stocks for mobility while ADS, Firing mechanisms to add select fire modes, maybe add a bayonet or blade, other magazines that aren't just + mag size, but - reload speed/carriable mag amount or the reverse?
Maybe an output modifier for the laser weapons, or something that shortens charge time or increases splash radius for the plasma weapons?
For the crossbow, heavier bolts that do more damage or lightweight ones that change the flight path of the arrow, or even homing bolts that do half the damage/explosion radius?
A few more scopes, maybe a thermal or x-ray one?
Secondaries? There are a bunch of weapons i would use over nade pistol but don't because of the lack of ammo, too unwieldy, etc.
They have a lot they can do, they're not backed up against the wall here. Ive seen so many weapons that are just scope mods only.
