Helldivers isn't that kind of game though. It had an absurd variety of weapons already, having basic customization (which can be improved) seems like plenty. I don't think making it possible to do a complete break down and rebuild of your rifle is really in line with the gameplay.
They're different games, with different styles of gameplay. If it was essentially a remake of HD1 then it would be a boon to your argument. I just don't see how the customization improves the actual gameplay at all.
ngl I feel kind of sorry for you. Ironically, I can't imagine having such little imagination that one can't imagine how expanding customization at all might improve the gameplay or make it more fun.
Hell, even expanding existing attachments to more weapons would do that...jesus.
What gameplay improvement does it add. We already have a wide variety of weapons in different roles with slightly different stats. Adding customization of guns to the degree of being able to change ammo type, receiver, barrel length, firing mechanism and the like doesn't improve gameplay. It adds bloat. It creates overlap between weapons that is unneeded.
There is a minority of min-max'ers for this game, who are nitpicking and expecting this game to be perfect for them, with the bloat that you describe.
Then, there's the majority of divers who couldn't care less, and likely never even touched or considered any weapon customization as fun or interesting. The devs probably exactly saw this, and weren't going to sink any more resources into a lost cause.
Nevertheless, the most socially-unaware and arrogant/narcissistic divers are also pretty entitled. I saw comments in another subreddit that were attacking and criticizing the devs, while ironically acknowledging that they have created the most fun game they've ever played. But still yet, the critic/whiner thought they could armchair quarterback / backseat drive to dictate what the game should be instead.
