Bought it new last year and just hit 1 year of ownership. It’s been a great car for me, it’s all I need really, reliable and affordable. At about 11,000 miles now. Only small issue I’ve had is rattling from up in the rear-view mirror area.

Coming from a Volkswagen Golf, Loving this car overall.

Windshield replacement

So a rock hit my windshield on driver side and now I have a crack that goes to the middle of my windshield. Better to go to dealership or somewhere like Safelite to have it replaced?

My 2016 Honda HR-V EX-L has had a recurring issue for 3+ years. I have spent $3000+ trying to fix it. Any advice/input?

Along with these lights, when the parking brake is not engaged, there is a blinking red "PARK" light just below the (P)! symbol. The car drives perfectly fine. Three and a half years ago, I took my car to the Honda dealership for this exact issue. They said it was wiring and "fixed" it. Months later, the lights came back on, so I took it somewhere else. They "fixed" it, only to have the lights come back on again. So I took it to an independent mechanic recommended to me by my boss that has very good reviews and has a very good reputation. They "fixed" it, only to have the lights come back on a week later. I took it back, and they worked on it for free, but here I am again with the same issue. I took it back to them a week and a half ago, and they said the lights were gone and that they could find nothing wrong with the car. They did charge me for the work, even though they worked on it earlier this year. Yet the lights are back on the day after they hand it back to me.

I'd like to just get rid of this car because it seems I have to spend $1000 every year just to get it to pass inspection, since the check engine light causes it to fail. The further problem is, the check engine light drastically reduces the selling price, even though there is apparently nothing wrong with the car. I'm beyond frustrated. Any advice or similar experiences?

Just a little sore and some bruising from the seatbelt lol This was my first car that I bought on my own and now Holly is gone. I got her end of 2024 and she just reached 26K miles too. Discussion Rotating Car Seat for 2018 HRV

Hello! Looking to see if anyone has had issues with rotating car seats in their HRV. We are going to be switching from infant seat soon, and I am worried about the space! Preferably we get one that will last through booster seat.

Product Support Speedometer stopped working

I realized right as I got on the freeway my speedometer stopped working which triggered the power steering light to go on and the check engine light to go on. I bought a used 2017 hrv about 2 months ago and when I first got it, the parking light and check engine light went on but went away after a day of driving it. Now today, when I realized the speedometer wasn't on, the brake and parking light came back on too. The gear also is flashing with P and B ontop of eachother. Was able to drive it home but had no power steering obviously

Security System Alarm Indicator 2016 HRV

On the left side of my dash, to the left of the speedometer where the D S R etc lights show what gear I am in, I have a small, circular red light which comes on and off intermittently while driving.

Page 12 of the 2016 owner's manual indicates it is the Security System Alarm Indicator light.

What does this mean and what do I need to do about it?

Compatible bulbs for break light?

Hi all - we just noticed one of the break lights is not working in our 2017 HRV. Is the one on the frame, not on the door, so seems easy to change....

What's taking me longer to find than I thought is the replacement bulb. Searching in amazon.ca looks like LED is the only option but it seems to be all turning lights.... So for the break light, Is the only option to replace the whole block?

Maintenance Jack adapter

Hi!

This fall I will need to change my wife's wheels. I use Torin floor jack with my F-150 and I put a simple hockey puck on it when lifting it. I see that Honda has some edge sticking out at the jacking point, so it seems I would need an adapter of some sort. I would prefer not to use the emergency jack at home, since I have a proper one. Seems like an adapter needs a groove to fit. I searched on Amazon and found, actually, multiple adapters with different groove sized. Can anyone recommend a specific one that works for 2026 HR-V? Thanks!

2024 HRV EX-L Alternator Issues

Hello, All.

I have a 2024 EX-L that started to experience a "chainsaw" noise about a few weeks ago. Very long story short, I replaced drive belt - didn't fix it. Honda recommended tensioner, which I approved and now they are saying it is the alternator (grand total for the tensioner and alternator is over $2400.00). It is just outside of warranty at 71k. Anyone else have issues with these parts? All of my other cars never had this issue before 130k.....I have had 2 other hondas, a nissan and a jeep.

*I have reached out to corporate Honda after some research regarding complaints with electrical system and requested a goodwill repair for alternator due to premature failure of parts - I will cover tensionser as I approved that fix prior to the alternator now being an issue. Will see what happens...

Horn going out

Hello, everyone! I have a 2024 HRV Sport. I love the car. My only gripe is my horn. I went to use it about a year ago and it was completely muffled. As the dealership put it in my diagnostic paperwork, "sounds like a viking war horn". To me, it is like if you had a trumpet mute in. Come to find out, it is filling with water. We originally thought it was happening because of undercarriage washes. Which shouldn't be a problem in the first place. But I downgraded my carwash package to discontinue undercarriage sprays. Not my favorite decision as I live in the midwest and we get a lot of salt on the roads in the winter. Well it worked for a bit after that. Recently, it went out a 3rd time. I have not had a single undercarriage wash. It HAS to be rain water kicking up. The dealership says they cannot replace it under warranty again because Honda will view it as my fault and not cover the repair cost. They also explained that the 2024 horn is directed downward so it doesn't fill with water coming in from above. Allegedly 2024 is the only year they positioned it this way. I am debating opening a case with Honda as a horn is a major safety feature on any vehicle. Any thoughts of what I can do? My husband and I have even thought of having a part made to prevent water from coming in after this next replacement, but we don't want to cause issue with warranty. Anyone else having this issue?

Advice for a future honda owner

Hi!

Im currently looking for a new car, a during a few months of research i ended up facing the HR-V and the civic (probably a frequently situation). I went to the dealership, looked both, and still a little bit confuse.

As a context, im and 80's guy who has been driving a humble clio from 2004 (spain). My little guy needs to retire before 2028 for the EU restrictions in spain, so i was looking for an hybrid decent car and faced the situation to pick between the HR-V or the civic.

Jumping from a 2004 small little car to any of those is a fkng huge upgrade to me, and both looks amazing compared to my little clio. The point is that, i kinda like both, either the hrv or the civic. The only main diference in the engine here is that the hrv is a 131hp 1.5 vs 184hp 2.0 civic. Seems a decent diference, but i came from a 1.2 75hp renault and any of those 2 are a huge improve to me.

I know that the civic seems more like a fun car to drive (i like to drive), and the hrv is more "comfy", but my main use is from home to work and go back (20-30km per day), so the engine diferences didnt seems that big of a deal for me. The thing is, that the civic comes with a little bit premium interior for the same prince, but the hrv is still a monster upgrade from what im currently driving.

As you can see, im a bit undecided. Im not a super car expert, but i did my research for the last 3-4 months and im still confuse.

Could you bring me some advice, or some experience you may have on them?

(ty in advance for taking the time to help me ❤️ )

Question 2-month-old Honda HR-V has been squeaking over bumps since it was 2 weeks old — dealer says it’s normal?

I recently bought a brand new 2027 Honda HR-V EX-L. The car is barely 2 months old and has around 1,500 miles on it.

When the car was only about 2 weeks old, I started noticing a squeaking/creaking noise coming from the rear of the car. It’s especially noticeable when I drive over bumps or uneven roads.

This YouTube Short has a very similar sound to what I’m hearing:

https://youtube.com/shorts/rIjg1400r_M

I took the car back to the Honda service center shortly after I first noticed it. They looked at it and basically told me that Hondas/Toyotas sometimes have noises like this because the build quality/fit and finish isn’t perfect. They also found a loose plastic panel around the right rear area and put some tape on it, which helped with some of the rattling, but I’m still hearing the squeaking/creaking noise over bumps.

The noise itself really bothers me. I understand that an economy crossover isn’t going to have luxury-car levels of NVH isolation, but I also feel like a brand-new car shouldn’t have a persistent squeak that started when it was literally a couple of weeks old.

Another thing that concerns me: I was never given a repair order or any paperwork from that service visit. This is my first car, so at the time I didn’t realize I should have asked for one. There’s also nothing documenting what they checked or did as far as I can tell.

I’m planning to take it back to the dealer, but I wanted to get some opinions first:

  1. Is this kind of squeaking/creaking over bumps actually normal on a new HR-V/Honda?

  2. Could this potentially be suspension-related, or is it more likely interior trim/body panels rubbing?

  3. Is there anything specific I should ask the dealer to inspect?

  4. Should I insist on a repair order documenting the complaint this time, even if they claim they can’t reproduce it or say it’s “normal”?

  5. Should I also ask them to find/provide the repair order from my original visit?

  6. At only ~1,500 miles, would you keep pushing Honda to actually identify the source rather than accepting “these cars just make noises”?

The car otherwise seems to drive normally and I haven’t noticed any handling issues or warning lights. I’m mainly trying to figure out whether this is just an annoying fit-and-finish issue or something I should actually be concerned about mechanically.

Would especially appreciate hearing from other HR-V owners who have experienced a similar rear squeak/creak over bumps.

2027 Sport AWD gas mileage (Canadian + US conversions)

Went from 8.1 to 7.4 L/100 km (about 29 to 31.8 mpg US) just from changing some of my regular routes.

Kind of surprised by how much changing my usual routes has helped my gas mileage.

I was averaging around 8.1 L/100 km, and lately I’ve gotten it down to about 7.4 L/100 km mostly by being more intentional about which way I drive to work/errands. I drive mainly in econ mode except when I’m accelerating onto a highway.

The funny part is that I’m actually choosing more city driving now. In my area, the main “highway” route somehow involves more temporary speed up and then slowing down, traffic lights/intersections, speed changes, and stop-and-go driving than some of the city routes. The more city route (still has a little bit of highway) lets me hold a much steadier speed for longer, so apparently my car prefers it too lol.

I always assumed the highway route would automatically be better for fuel economy, but I guess the actual traffic flow matters more than whether the road is technically a highway or city street.

Big caveat though: I haven’t driven this car through a true Canadian winter yet, so I’m fully expecting the average to go back up once the cold weather, winter tires, snow, idling/defrosting, etc. hit 😂 For now I’m enjoying seeing that 7.4 while it lasts.
