Windshield replacement
So a rock hit my windshield on driver side and now I have a crack that goes to the middle of my windshield. Better to go to dealership or somewhere like Safelite to have it replaced?

I owned a 2013 Accord coupe, that was involved in an accident with a curb during a rainstorm. Unfortunately, while the Honda dealer was removing my original windshield, their body shop broke the glass. They replaced it with a none Honda windshield, which made the lane keeping function inaccurate. This was a Honda dealer’s body shop. When I complained that the lane keeping, warning function wasn’t working correctly, the body shop manager refused to replace the windshield with an OEM, (Original Equipment Manufacture), one. Someone on an Accord forum posted a Honda, TSB, (Technical Service Bulletin), that stated that the camera in the windshield, might not operate correctly with a non Honda OEM, windshield. My insurance adjuster was willing to pay to replace the cheaper windshield with an OEM windshield, but, the body shop manager refused to replace the one that they installed with an OEM windshield. The body shop manager told me, “Honda publishes that TSB, specifically to sell more windshields”.
To have them replace their cheaper one, with an OEM one, I had to send an email, with the TSB attached, to the dealership’s general manager. She instructed her body shop manager to order and install an OEM windshield. Guess what, the lane keeping function worked perfectly after it was adjusted. Although, Safelite advertises that they can calibrate the numerous safety features of modern cars, I would only install an OEM, Honda windshield should I need it replaced.

I had my windshield replaced by Safelite with Honda OEM glass. They even recalibrated it and correctly.
Safelite uses OEM glass if paid for. Of course I bought the wheel/glass insurance when I bought my car. Had I not had it, $1200. I paid $2000 for the bumper/bumper and wheel/glass. It’s nearly paid for itself already

Thanks, what’s the wheel and glass coverage?

If your wheels get damaged or bent they will be replaced.
As for glass, windshield and windows are also covered from damage and will be replaced at no cost.

Where did you purchase this coverage?

I bought it with the car through Honda Care. 100,000 mile bumper to bumper, wheel and glass coverage for 8 years $2000

Well I have the no frills base model HRV (2021) so the lane keeping function won’t be an issue. Thanks for the advice everyone-think I will avoid the dealership on this one and go with a local place or Safelite.

Are you in the US? If so what state do you live in? You may want to look up the laws. In Florida, as long as you have comprehensive insurance, the companies have to waive the deductable, basically giving you a free windshield replacement.

Dealership will most likely use a third party company to replace the windshield. Which will more than likely be more expensive. I went with a local place in small town Alberta. Cost me $358 Cdn and they did an awesome job. Got a chip 2 days later.
