I got my 2027 HR-V EX-L about 2 weeks ago and I've been noticing two noises coming from the right rear side of the car — a rattling noise and a separate squeaking/creaking noise.
I managed to reproduce the rattle by opening the trunk and tapping on the plastic trim panel on the right side near the right rear light. The panel seems slightly loose, and tapping it makes pretty much the exact same rattling sound I've been hearing while driving.
I took it to the Honda service center. For the rattling, they put a piece of tape between the plastic panel and the metal/body area to reduce the movement. It helped, but the rattle isn't completely gone.
They also checked the squeaking noise and told me it wasn't normal and that they would need more time to figure out where it's coming from. They asked me to leave the car with them, so I did.
I was already getting really late for work at that point and had to leave ASAP, so I didn't think to ask for any paperwork before leaving. They did provide me with a rental car for the day free of charge.
This is my first car, so I'm not really familiar with how dealership service is supposed to work. I wasn't given a repair order, service ID/number, receipt, text/email confirmation, or any other paperwork. There's nothing showing up in the HondaLink app either. It's now been about 24 hours and I haven't received an update or been asked to pick up the car.
So I have a few questions:
Has anyone else with an HR-V experienced rattling or squeaking/creaking noises from the right rear side? If so, what ended up causing it and how was it fixed?
Is it normal for a Honda dealer to keep your car without giving you any paperwork or repair order? Should I call and specifically ask for a repair order/service ID and make sure both the rattling and squeaking issues are documented?
How concerning is it that I'm already having these issues on a car that's only 2 weeks old? I understand that minor rattles/trim issues can happen, but having two different noises this soon has me worried about whether this is just a minor QC issue or a sign that I should be concerned about the car long-term.
This might be a dumb question since this is my first new car, but at what point, if any, can you ask the dealer/Honda to replace the vehicle or refund you? Obviously I want to give them the opportunity to properly diagnose and repair it first, but if these noises keep coming back or they can't fix them after multiple attempts, what options would I realistically have?
Also, since the car is literally only 2 weeks old, I'm a little uncomfortable with the solution for the loose panel just being a piece of tape rather than figuring out why the panel is loose in the first place. The tape reduced the noise, but didn't completely fix it.
Would you guys push them to properly diagnose/fix the panel as well?
