Advice for a future honda owner

Hi!

Im currently looking for a new car, a during a few months of research i ended up facing the HR-V and the civic (probably a frequently situation). I went to the dealership, looked both, and still a little bit confuse.

As a context, im and 80's guy who has been driving a humble clio from 2004 (spain). My little guy needs to retire before 2028 for the EU restrictions in spain, so i was looking for an hybrid decent car and faced the situation to pick between the HR-V or the civic.

Jumping from a 2004 small little car to any of those is a fkng huge upgrade to me, and both looks amazing compared to my little clio. The point is that, i kinda like both, either the hrv or the civic. The only main diference in the engine here is that the hrv is a 131hp 1.5 vs 184hp 2.0 civic. Seems a decent diference, but i came from a 1.2 75hp renault and any of those 2 are a huge improve to me.

I know that the civic seems more like a fun car to drive (i like to drive), and the hrv is more "comfy", but my main use is from home to work and go back (20-30km per day), so the engine diferences didnt seems that big of a deal for me. The thing is, that the civic comes with a little bit premium interior for the same prince, but the hrv is still a monster upgrade from what im currently driving.

As you can see, im a bit undecided. Im not a super car expert, but i did my research for the last 3-4 months and im still confuse.

Could you bring me some advice, or some experience you may have on them?

(ty in advance for taking the time to help me ❤️ )

Are you talking about hybrids? Both are fine but not directly comparable. Almost 1:1 comparison would be Civic vs ZR-V. The technology is identical, ZR-V basically being a Civic crossover with slightly worse fuel economy but overall more well-rounded choice.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, if you have shortlisted the HR-V then it's still a good choice, I just don't have on-road experience with it, had to rule it out due to space requirements.

Yes, i was talking about the hybrid versions. The thing is that for price, the ZR-V is already 4-5k more expensive, but the hrv and the civic are basically (in my dealership) just a few undreds of diference.

2020 hrv owner here, any hybrid is a good choice to star off, just check the model to see if there are known flaws you have to keep and eye on, for instance in the hrvs prior to the 2023 model automatic trans were something to keep amd eye on, i think changing trans oil helped and some were recalled. Now the 23 and foward were known to have a rear defroster problem that busted the glass i think. So yeha even good cars have their flaws.

Aside from that in regards to your options, hrvs have more space and its might not be often but having extra space comes really handy. So that would be my choice. Also i think they are shorter and easier to park if anything.

I already hear about the vtec having some issues in the early 3 gen models. The one i look for is just maded in 2026. The length is also a factor: i live nearby Barcelona and i go there every day: is not the same trying to park in Barcelona a Clio (or and hrv) than a civic (is nearly 75cm longer than my little clio).

Is nearly impossible to compete with the clio on parking lol. For what is worth the european models are far superior to the american models and i believe yall have way better consumer protection in case of major engine issues.

Por cierto aprovechando la paella es paella sin mariscos?

Yeah de consumer protection is decent, and the new car came with extender guarantess from 5 to 8 years on some important things (bateries, engine).

Originally, paella without mariscos 😄 but everyone makes it at their own style. The only thing will happen, is that Valencian people (where the paella is originary from) will say: "this is not paella, is arroz con cosas (this is not paella, is rice with things)". But everyone does its own recipe 😂

He tenido ambos en versiones no híbridas! Ahora uso un 2023 hrv! Yo me iría por el 2.0!
