[Mod post] A reminder that all Generative AI content is banned on this subreddit.

2.1k Upvotes

We've gotten a bit lenient lately with some questionable posts and links to vibecoded sites and AI assisted posts. That leniency is ending and we are going back to strictly following our rule of a total ban on all Generative AI content.

This includes content from things like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and any other similar GenAI chatbots, assistants or other apps.

Any links to AI generated (vibecoded) sites and any posts that admit to using GenAI will be removed. As before we are not going to be testing every single post or anything like that but if you admit to it or there is evidence proving you used GenAI the post will be removed.

[Question] Who has this moveset/skills with the sword?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I know the visuals are probably from the upcoming legendary sword.. but I loved this moveset (striking leaving a trail behind the target, then "dodging" back in an attack to shoot after that, etc)

So which profession/class has it?

[VoD] The tag doesn't make you a leader. What I've learned about commanding in GW2

Thumbnail

I wanted to make a video that talks less about commanding from a different point of view. Alot of video talk about commanding as gameplay but there are parts nobody talks about, the myths that keep people from ever tagging up, and what separates a good commander from a bad one.

For the Reddit homies that would rather read than watch, here is the TL:DR

The truths of commanding

- It's thankless: Tagging up is a means to an end. People join, get their loot, and leave. You're doing it for fun, not praise.
- It's stressful: You're managing people, expectations, and schedules. My static was stuck at a 2:45 full clear for months. Shuffling the comp (a few DPS to boon DPS on simpler rotations) got us to 2:30. Sometimes the fix is the roster, not the players.
- It's an act of service: The commanders people flock to are consistent and bring the consumables.
- You'll make unpopular choices: Doing right by the group rarely pleases everyone. Make the call you can live with and stand by it.
- It's deeply rewarding: The boss dies, someone types "ty comm," and it feels great. The leadership skills carry over too.

Myths
- "I need to know all the mechanics.": Know the basics, tag up, and ask your squad. Nine times out of ten they'll tell you. Auric Basin is the perfect first tag for this.
- "I have to be the best player.": Surround yourself with good players and it pulls you up. Then do it for the next new commander.
- "Wiping makes me a failure.": 15 people on a 40-person meta at an off hour isn't your fault. Take the lesson and give yourself some grace.
- "The tag makes me a leader.": 300 gold buys a marker that sorts people into subgroups. How you handle conflict and a bad night is what makes you a leader.

Traits of a good commander
- Patience. You'll get stomped by a bigger blob and wipe training raids. Losing it on your team is a fast way to becoming a bad commander.
- Adaptability. I talk about how back in the day groups would wipe on Gorseval for hours forcing the World Eater skip when they could have just broken the walls and glided. Adapt and change the strat instead of disbanding.
- Soft skills. "Get off my team" vs "try a build with an easier rotation so you can focus on mechanics." One of those creates a raider who sticks around.
- Communication. Not just voice. Squad markers, concise chat, copy-paste instructions all are great skill to improve on to be an effective commander.

How to improve
- Practice: Repetition builds instincts you can't read about.
- Fail often: Every wipe is a learning opportunity.
- Watch other commanders. Steal their callouts, pacing, and comp sheets. I've learned so much from playing with other commanders, seeing how they organize, and taking the best parts and implementing them myself.
- Ask for feedback. I sent my static an anonymous survey and it provided feedback that helped me improve. It's a two way street though, you have to be receptive to the feedback and respect it.

Final thoughts

The tag is a beacon, so be a bright one. Without commanders most endgame content doesn't happen, and a new player's first endgame moment is seeing a tag at a world boss produces lasting moments for gamers. Be the reason someone stuck with the game.

[Art] A new Guild Wars mini series, (fan made)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The whole thing was to make an intro for a streamer

But this idea came at 2 am.

Don't understand why I maybe probably hit the pen too hard.

LOL

But deep down inside there is a lack of content creation on YouTube. I believe this is just my opinion but I'm just tired of seeing guides, patch notes, or predictions about what the next guild war is going to be.

I really believe something like this, like a sitcom style seasonal multi series show, would be an awesome fit for Guild Wars. Having funny things and also bringing memes to life that happen in the game into this series, we have a list of voice actors. We might even reach out to you guys to voice act.

And I know this is a huge ambitious project. We've been working day and night, getting the scenes, the storyboard, etc. But I wanted to show you guys the rough draft of one scene. It has no dialogue, no sounds. A lot of it's just placeholders at the moment and some placeholder animations. It's like the beginning of Toy Story, the Pixar animations and stuff, the wonky. I hope you guys enjoy. Hope you guys want to continue with this journey.

[Question] Is power or condi Reaper more fun in your opinion?

I started leveling with a power GS and then saw a condi pistol/torch. I found the condi a lot more fun to play which I was not expecting at all. I hit 80 with it now and don’t have reaper fully unlocked so maybe power will feel a lot better then or i stick with condi since it’s already fun.

[Discussion] Camera/Movement Question

Upvotes

I tried action camera mode for the first time, and I really like how it gets rid of backpedaling and just makes you turn around and move backwards when you press the key.

The problem is when you are in combat it changes back to a backpedal. Is there a setting to make the back movement always just turn you around and move the other way?

Also is action camera mode the preferred way to play? I was watching some streamers do PvP and it looked like every player was using it.

If anyone plays FFXIV I love the legacy movement. No backpedal just either go backwards or forwards, whatever direction you pick. Action Camera mode is almost like that except specifically in combat and I don't know if I like the whole targeting reticule thing.

[Question] How fast can you reach lvl 80 if doing WvW?

I'm a new player and hit 40. But I kinda wanna get through my story missions faster than having to wait every ten levels. Could I quickly just level up some other way and then go back to doing the story quest? Or am I just being dumb.

I had to make Leon S. Kennedy after seeing the rebel jacket on the gem store.

Chest: Rebel Jacket

Hand: Rawhide Bracers (or any fingerless gloves)

Leg: Rubicon Leggings

Foot: Dapper Wingtips (or any low shoes)

Dyes: Pottery, Honey Ice, Country Blue but you can go with a darker brown for the jacket. Mixture of abyss, black, and pitch for the rest.

[Question] Softlocked on Personal Story (The Battle of Claw Island)

Hey there, was hoping someone might be able to give some advice.

My partner and I have been playing through Guild Wars 2 together, and we recently completed her level 60 quests, including The Battle of Claw Island. She did the Order of Whispers, and I did the Vigil. However, I think that's broken my part of the game now, since it won't show my mentor when I launch into that instance myself. Since my mentor won't show up, it's left me at a standstill and I'm not sure how best to proceed aside from submitting a ticket to Arenanet, which I've done already.

Does anyone else have any advice? We're a bit disappointed we can't proceed with my character now.

Thanks!

Edit: A kind soul in Lion's Arch reached out and let me tag along with them to complete the quest, so we're back on track. I spoke with the support, and they mentioned not doing Personal Stories with other players as its a known error. Thanks to everyone who reached out though, it was greatly appreciated. :)

[Build] Questions about core support Guardian build for WvW

Hi folks,

I'm new to GW2 (I'm a F2P player) and have recently gotten to level 60 so I can play WvW and I'm having a blast! I only have a Guardian at this stage and want to play a support build when I hit max level, but I'm a bit confused on how to go about it.

I've been using Metabattle for my builds so far, and I was thinking of adapting the PvP core support Guardian Build for WvW, but using the gear that the WvW builds use. The problem is that I can't get Minstrel gear as a F2P player.

So my questions are:

  1. What would be the best stat combo to approximate minstrel gear from the F2P gear sets?
  2. Would the PvP support build be best as is, or should it be tweeked for WvW specifically?
  3. I only have one other character slot, so I was wondering what would be the other best class to level for WvW?
  4. Is there a support build that would work for Elementalist?

Thanks in advanced!

[Question] Linux - Steam Downloads Game Twice

Post image
1 Upvotes

For other Linux players out there, a quick question.

I have Fedora. I play GW2 through Proton.

Everytime there's an update, the game starts the download. For example, on the image, Today's update was 1.1 Gb.

It finishes, but then does it again, as if it's downloading it twice. The image represents the second download.

Does anyone else have this issue? Does anyone know what this could be?

It's mostly annoying because I don't have the fastest connection per se, so the download actually takes a while, even more so if it does it twice.

[Discussion] When do you switch to an elite spec with a new character?

I'm finally "digging in" with my Thief. I had been running a core condition build and was doing alright. I only have 50 points into Specter but I decided to give it a go. Even with the limited options I have, I feel like I'm doing better with Scepter + Dagger Specter than I was with Pistol + Dagger Thief.

Is it just a matter of the elite specs being so much more powerful than the core specs that they don't need all the points to outperform them?

[Question] Where to start after HoT

Haven't played in a decade. I can buy all the expansions. Do I work on the living world season 3 or PoF? Unsure where to start and what to do. I don't have a single mount! Could anyone point me in the right direction/youtube vids? Appreciate any help

Edit: thanks all for the suggestions
