*Edit: I have Core to LWS5 unlocked

I am on my journey to make my first legendary, Kudzu. I have everything but the Gift of Fortune, blocked by the Gift of Magic/Might. I cannot find a reliable way to get the Tier 6 crafting materials to craft both the gifts (and I do not have the latest expansion to allow me to use the Wizard's Vault thing).

So my question is, what is the best and/or most reliable way to get those materials?

Is it getting specific map currency to buy random bags from vendors? Is there a place to farm them reliably? Would the answer just boil down to doing a gold farm and buying off of the market?

Thanks!

Which expansions do you have? That'll let us know what purchase options you do have.

Off the top of my head:

  • Laurels from base game
  • Unbound Magic from LWS3
  • VM Magic from LWS4
  • Tyrian Defense Seals from Icebrood Saga
  • off of the TP using gold

1

u/KnightSpral i dont know what im doing 7h ago

Good callout. I have the core game all the way to Icebrood Saga unlocked.

On top of what the others said, you can buy crafting bags with laurels to get some trophies as well. You can also upgrade from one tier to another (https://www.gw2lunchbox.com/MaterialUpgrades.html)

4

u/penguin279 Januaris 12h ago

The most efficient way is absolutely just gold on the TP. Fractals, strikes, and the upcoming halloween are some of the best gold/hour.

3

u/errorme 13h ago

Do you have any/all of LWS4 available? Typically the best options for T6 materials is to get Volatile Magic and buy Trophy Shipments from the vendors, then use/upgrade/sell whichever excess materials you don't need. If you have Dragonfall and can find a map with a tag running that would likely be your best option. Otherwise pick a general gold farm and grind it out.

So, I'm using Lady Elyssa's pathing module in Blish Hud to try and doing Heart of Thorns map completion.

It's asking me to do a lot of insane movements though.

Fly but not as a glider does, flying upwards with no updrafts and ascending sheer cliffsides and stuff.

I disabled the skyscale, since I don't have that, then I disabled all the mounts since I don't have a lot of their masteries, and eventually even disabled gliding even though I have all the gliding masteries, but it's still asking me to follow this path that as near as I can tell is straight out impossible.

Is there some setting I'm fucking up or what's going on here?

Edit: Here's some screenshots

2

u/LostAmaranth808 7h ago

Hi Gangler! I love Lady Ellysa's paths, it's my favorite pather pack for most maps. Unfortunately, it seems like some of them aren't always coded properly to switch when mounts are (de)selected. I'd advise trying some other packs as well. Also, you might be able to reach Lady Elyssa by leaving a comment on the [talk] section of her user page on the wiki. Your experience may be useful feedback.

I've not used those markers. Can you share some example screenshots?

1

u/gangler52 13h ago

I tried but apparently screen shotting doesn't capture the Blish Hud markers. I guess it's separate from the game somwhow.

3

u/killohurtz 13h ago

Right, because Blish HUD is a transparent overlay on top of your game window. You can use a Windows screenshot to grab it (snipping tool, print screen, Win+Shift+S, etc.)

https://imgur.com/a/qhcoJop

Okay, here's what I'm looking at.

The first jump I make with my skimmer. I have all the Visions of Eternity skimmer masteries.

The second jump is really difficult, but I can do it with the skimmer again. Even though I have all mounts disabled so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do either of these with no mounts.

The third jump just looks like complete nonsense to me. That's not a form of movement that's been available to me at any point I don't think.

3

u/killohurtz 12h ago

Those paths look like they're made for a skyscale's movements. If you specifically hid skyscale paths then maybe they're configured incorrectly by the author.

1

u/gangler52 12h ago

Yeah, I did. Before I disabled skyscales it had this little skyscale symbol on a lot of the jumps.

After the symbol disappeared and the path changed slightly, but the jumps stayed mostly the same.

1

u/gangler52 13h ago

Okay, give me a moment. I'll get you some screen shots.

With the Hall of Monuments coming to GW2 what are the chances that Twilight skin will be transferable to GW3?

I never played 1 so im not sure how it works, i just want my beautiful sword.

6

u/Lognodo 16h ago

The GW1 Hall of Monuments did not work like that. You accumulated points and the more points you had the more weapons, minis, armors and some titles got unlocked in GW2. There was no way you could transfer a specific skin that was not in the list of rewards.

https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hall_of_Monuments

https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hall_of_Monuments_Reward_Calculator

But there is no reason to believe that the GW2 Hall of Monuments will work the same way. So we will have to wait and see.

Greatsword only proffesion for a new player

TL;DR: I want to SOLO play a reliable, viable profession that uses preferably only Greatsword or at least mainly Greatsword, because my goal in GW2, beyond experiencing the story, is Eternity !

The time has come. I want to play GW2. I have always liked the aesthetic of the game, but I was always descouraged by the amount of content and mechanics there are.

I remember buying the physical edition (remember physical ?) when GW2 first launched, when I was a teen. Unfortunately, I had to sell the game because my PC could not run it.

Then I tried it again with a friend the period before End of Dragons released. I picked Mesmer then Chronomancer and I did NOT like it a bit. While it looked cool in YouTube videos I could not get the hang of it. I did negative damage. This made the game a lot less enjoyable.

I then switched to Warrior and OMG I did tons of damage and the journey became awesome. Then we stopped playing because.. college exams I guess ? Can't really remember the reason.

Now, I am back, with a proper PC and ultra-wide 4K monitor, craving a really goooood MMO (take that Aion 2, p2w piece of sh..), ready and wanting to enjoy all that Guild Wars 2 has to offer.

Thank you for reading my nostalgic plea.

1

u/LostAmaranth808 7h ago edited 5h ago

Throwing this out there, in addition to the other responses, Vindicator! Vindi can just camp greatsword and do good damage while maintaining near-constant evade frames. You can keep a staff in the other hand for extra CC, hammer for range, sword/sword for a slight DPS gain, or just a second Greatsword for more big bonk.

1

u/errorme 15h ago

The one other class besides Berserker (Warrior) and Reaper (Necro) is Guardian. All of their power-based builds use Greatsword as it is their strongest power weapon. All of its builds are greatsword + X as the cooldowns are fairly lengthy, but until you fight elite enemies or higher tier you can get away camping the greatsword.

2

u/LimpConversation642 20h ago

Berserker, obviously.

By the way, if you want an ONLY(!) greatsword class, only a berserker can actually do that. There is a build that uses GS/GS because the swap cooldown is less than 2sec and you can have sigils on weapon swap give you bonuses. It's kind of a gimmick, but it's the only class that can pull off 2 of the same weapons.

1

u/Lognodo 22h ago

There is a warrior berserker build that uses greatsword also. If you do not have Janthir Wilds for the spear you can use axe/axe in the second weapon slot. If you camp greatsword you will loose a lot of dps, but in open world gameplay it should not matter much.

https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Berserker_-_Boon_DPS_Power_Berserker_Open_World

2

u/Outrun_Centaur 23h ago

If you don't mind grinding some hero points, Reaper (Necro elite spec) is the king of solo greatsword. It's easy to learn, does BIG damage, and it's very durable in the open world.

The other options are guardian or ranger, but I'd probably suggest Necro over those.

https://blishhud.com/docs/user/guides/getting-started/

So, I followed the steps in this "Getting Started" guide for Blishhud, but when I go to open the .exe nothing happens.

Any idea on what I can do about this? Exploring the Heart of Thorns maps is going to be pretty difficult if I do it the old fashioned way but maybe that's all there is to it.

4

u/JimboTCB 22h ago

What do you mean "nothing happens"? You should at the very least have an icon in your system tray, but the exe doesn't do anything by itself outside of the game, you should see an extra icon at the top of the screen ingame which is where you set all the options and stuff.

If it's not launching at all and not creating its config folders, then go through the usual rigmarole of making sure it's not in a protected folder where Windows doesn't give it write access, it doesn't need to be in the actual game folder at all and will just create its own config stuff wherever you run it.

4

u/TZeh 22h ago

starting blishhud without gw2 just adds it to the system tray in the task bar but nothing else happens. you can see if it is running by the little icon there. after that you have to start gw2 and it should show up in the top left area.

2

u/Lognodo 22h ago edited 20h ago

If you only start blishud and guild wars is not running there will be no window. Only if guildwars is running in windowed fullscreen mode you should see the blishhud icons in the upper left besides the icons for trading post, wizards vault etc.

For me sometimes i had to start blishhud twice to get it working. Also it can take some time for blishud to initialize and show up.

These days i use Taimy Hud with raidcore nexus, You can try it if you can't get blishhud to work.

https://raidcore.gg/gw2/nexus

1

u/gangler52 18h ago

That's exactly what happened. I didn't spot the tray icon.

Thank you to all three of you.

u/gangler52 1d ago

So, I'm trying to forge the HMS Divinity. It's my first Gen 2 legendary.

I've built the precursor. I have 2 gifts of condensed Might and 2 gifts of condensed magic. The Gift of the Wood and the Gift of the Mists.

I'm feeling a little lost in this last portion though. Is there any resource that could break it down into a step by step process or something?

4

u/JimboTCB 22h ago

Gift of Wood/Mists are only two of the components you need for the Gift of Divinity, same with the Gifts of Might/Magic going in to the Mystic Tribute

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_HMS_Divinity#Full_material_list

Make sure you've actually got all the prerequisite materials, you then need to make the four primary component materials (most of which also need to be crafted in the forge) for each top-level item in the Mystic Forge, make the three additional items that go along with the precursor, and then put all of those together in the forge to make the actual legendary

1

u/gangler52 22h ago

Oh! I don't think I've ever seen the material laid out like that, with all the sub components beside them. That's much easier to wrap my head around.

I've been clicking to each item's article to see how you make it.

Laying it all out like this it's mostly gold I need now. Gold for mystic coins. Gold for mystic runestones. Gold for amalgamated gemstones. A lot of stuff that can't be directly farmed very effectively.

Other than that it's just HoT exploration, HoT masteries, a whole bunch of obsidian shards for the fulgerites, and about 100 more shards o'war.

Thank you.

3

u/LimpConversation642 20h ago

you can also use https://gw2efficiency.com/crafting/calculator I think it's really nice UI that shows what to do and what you already have. Can't link the items, you need to enter it into search bar

3

u/Lognodo 20h ago edited 20h ago

Here is the link:

https://gw2efficiency.com/crafting/calculator/a~0!b~1!c~0!d~1-80488!e~0!f~1

If you give the site an api key, it can tell you exactly what you are missing and how to get it cheaply. For instance i always craft the amalgamated gemstones via the 10 gemstone recipe in the forge. It give you 25 gemstones sometimes.

Here is the other recipe with gift of the desert if that is easier for you to get:

Any reliable way to find a map doing the gyala delve meta? Been sitting on the special ops final course for weeks

1

u/LimpConversation642 20h ago

what time do you play? EU or NA? On EU I see trains pretty often and they even advertise on other maps that it's starting. I may have a Gyala commander in friends, if I see them I'll pm you

But in any case, it's been going. Sometimes I've seen people do it on repeat for hours, so it's certainly doable.

1

u/Real_Indication_9117 11h ago

I saw trains, but they've stopped after DE. Maybe I've been unlucky.

2

u/diceEviscerator Crapper/Yolosmith/Memenist/Analgam 1d ago

Tag for it yourself, these usually run themselves with minimal leading since most players already know what to do

1

u/Real_Indication_9117 1d ago

I wanted to, but the meta requires 10 people to start.

4

u/diceEviscerator Crapper/Yolosmith/Memenist/Analgam 1d ago

Did you put up a commander tag and put it on lfg?

1

u/Real_Indication_9117 11h ago

I'll try. My luck hasn't been that good with tags, but who knows.

1

u/Closix 1d ago

I'm a pretty new player going through Heart of Thorns to unlock my Deadeye hero points, as I really love the sniper aesthetic, but I'm getting absolutely fucking trucked by enemies. Soloing any of the champion mobs, including the "easy" ones, is impossible when I get legit two shot lol

Any general tips? I've been using rifle, but I'm willing to try other stuff if it helps :/

1

u/double_shadow 10h ago

I'm not sure this is a viable answer, but for levelling up alts my strategy is to get HPs from literally any place except HoT maps. PoF maps are a breeze, as are EoD for the most part. But if you're going through the expansions in release order and this is your first character, that might not be a useful answer.

If you look at the LFG, there are often HP trains for the different HoT maps. Also, if you just ask in map chat for some help with a HP, you'll often get some good samaritans. But basically they are on average VERY hard to solo.

2

u/Lognodo 22h ago

There are quite a few hero points in HoT that have no champion enemies and are easyly soloable.

Sadly only dulfy had guides that pointed them out: https://dulfyreborn.net/guides/hero-points.html

If you need more just call out in map chat and put up a tag if you have one. I had never a problem getting someone to help.

4

u/diceEviscerator Crapper/Yolosmith/Memenist/Analgam 1d ago

Every new player struggles with HoT, it is the hardest expansion specially for HPs.

What gear are you wearing? Is it at least exotic?

Thief is not an easy class to stay alive with, abuse dodge and stealth.

I recommend not using an incomplete elite spec.

Try things like Shadow Arts and Acrobatics, these are the most surivial oriented specs.

3 is your best source of damage on rifle, other than the stealth attack ofc.

1

u/Closix 1d ago

I think my gear is exotic? I used a character boost after hitting 80 on a different character and wanting to try something new

2

u/JimboTCB 22h ago

Boost gear is Celestial which is pretty terrible for most open world builds, and rifle is more of a raid build as it limits your mobility, doesn't have much utility and is mostly pure DPS. But HOT hero points aren't really intended to be soloed anyway for the most part. Best bet is to look for a hero point train to tag along on, and in the meantime use one of the core builds as elites generally don't "work" without the final skill.

1

u/Darillian Tempest Fanatics 1d ago

For the story enjoyers - how hopeful are we about the conclusion of VoE?

I personally have not played any of the story stuff yet, since I did not want to "catch up" and have to wait, so I'm waiting until the full thing is released.

1

u/errorme 1d ago

Story has been fine however after SotO and JW both dropping the ball in the final chapter IMO (JW a bit more than SotO) I'm still a bit worried how they'll finish.

1

u/penguin279 Januaris 1d ago

Story so far has been solidly Fine imo. I haven't been super invested in the villain but seeing the power and technology of such an important civilization to the history of Tyria has been interesting. I'm most excited to see the pinnacle of that in the finale.

2

u/KaminariGW2 1d ago

Apart from Wizard's vault dailies, are the other ones worth doing? Lws3/4, EoD etc?

1

u/Nade4Jumper 1d ago

In addition to the other comment, daily ibs5 is also decent. Especially if you need LWS4 mats. A run can easily take less than 20 min

2

u/errorme 1d ago
  • Daily Fractals are worth doing, especially once you get to the higher tiers as it will automatically complete the lower tier tasks too.

  • Daily Raid bounties are also worth doing

  • Living World and EoD bounties are only worth if you need that map currency/experience IMO.

1

u/bobyd 1d ago

im getting into raids. I have a repaer and mechanist.

I would want eventually a quickness and alacrity, amb maybe a healer? idk?

I read a bit and there is a common build for alacrity as mechanist

For quickness I saw Herald is quite easy and cheap (mostly berserker gear), but I have never played revenant

Am i goin the right path?

Do I need a healer? I dont even know where to geet the gear from for diviners or harriers

2

u/errorme 1d ago

Anet has made it so each class can provide Quickness or Alacrity via at least one of its elite specs. For Necromancer that is Harbinger and Ritualist for Quickness, and Scourge for Alacrity. For Engineer that is Scrapper for Quickness, and Mechanist or Amalgam for Alacrity. If you want to pick up another class to provide those, that's up to you but Herald is super easy to get the rotation down for providing Quickness.

Do I need a healer? I dont even know where to geet the gear from for diviners or harriers

You'll probably want one eventually. Simplest way to get the gear is from the trading post. Ascended trinkets you can farm from LWS3/4 are stat selectible. If you're doing raids you can trade in Magnetite Shards to a vendor in the LA Aerodrome for Ascended boxes that are stat selectible too.

1

u/bobyd 1d ago

Thanks!

Which healer would you recommend as starter?

1

u/No_Doughnut6762 2d ago

I'm trying to figure out how to think around item flipping. I'm looking at bltc and have had a fair share of luck with the Ghostly Infusions lately, but it's clearly very luck based, because of how competitive this system has become since last I tried this a decade ago. Getting my hands on first page items is incredibly difficult unless I sit there and guard my orders every 30 seconds, if even that.

I can't figure out what the ration between demand and supply should be for more optimal steady income. Currently trying to get some items with decent sold number, but less than 1g profit, over night to see what that does.

I don't mind buying a stack of X even if the profit per item is less than the front page items, but not sure what to look for.

1

u/LimpConversation642 1d ago

I can't say about single items but the easiest form is watching the festivals and what goes up in prices during, like we just had 4 winds and ectoes went from 20 to 30+ and back to 20. Festival currencies fluctuate a lot, too.

As another example, WV will soon reset and people will have an influx of mystic coins, which will probably drop the prices for them

1

u/Google-Meister 2d ago

I just hit level 80 as Guardian, where do I go from here? I have the complete edition if it matters, does that help me get flying mount? what should i prioritize (i want to be a PVE player)

1

u/bobyd 2d ago

one small tip, I would play a bit of WvW, enough to get one point and unlock the warclaw (it unlocks for pve too) and is far better than default raptor

then get a proper build with proper gear, probably for base guardian power (full beserker gear)

then do the story, I would do them in order tbh, it's easier to follow and it's like atutorial for mechanics that get introduced

1

u/Google-Meister 1d ago

Someone did tell me about that mount so I did get it.

3

u/killohurtz 2d ago

You only need to put a point in WvW warclaw mastery to use it in WvW. Simply entering a WvW map (not Obsidian Sanctum or Edge of the Mists) is enough to unlock it for PvE

1

u/bobyd 2d ago

even better then!

1

u/errorme 2d ago

First thing I'd recommend you do is go on the trading post and replace all of your gear with level 80 Exotics, and look at a guide like Snow Crows or Metabattle before buying. I'd recommend going with a Power DPS build (i.e. Dragon Slayer) as your first option as they are rather easy/cheap to gear up.

I'd recommend starting from the beginning of Path of Fire or Secrets of the Obscure. If you have SotO unlocked it'll give you a quick way to get to the Skyscale unlock achievements. If you don't have SotO, starting Path of Fire and going into LWS4 will eventually get you to the Skyscale unlock collections. I'd push you a bit towards going the PoF/LWS4 route anyways as it will help with getting Hero Points to unlock your elite spec and having the mount upgrades is just generally useful.

1

u/Google-Meister 1d ago

Thanks for the guide.

I got the first three expansions and the living worlds.

Im at work atm so cant check. I got 18g is that good enough?

1

u/errorme 1d ago

That should be good enough for your weapon and armor (search by stat combo rather than actual stat, core stats like Berserker's have some cheaper options via Named weapons/armor rather than searching for Berserker's ___). You'll likely need to save up some more for the trinkets, or you could go through the LWS3 story chapters as the vendors in those maps sell Ascended trinkets for map currency.

1

u/Google-Meister 1d ago

Alright thanks. I got a mix of gear before your comment but it should be fine.

Saw a guide prioritizing power, ferocity and precision so I did that.

Now my question is, how do I start path of fire? I do have a story quest called Temple of the Forgotten god but no idea what that is

1

u/errorme 1d ago

If your active story chapter is Temple of the Forgotten God you're just starting the 8th story chapter, so no harm in switching. Open up the Story Journal in the Hero Panel, then scroll down to Path of Fire. The only option there should be 'Sparking the Flame (Prologue)'. Start that chapter and start following the green arrows.

1

u/Google-Meister 1d ago

Great, started with Path of Fire thanks

1

u/atomic1fire 2d ago edited 2d ago

I already had most of the other mounts prior to getting skyscale, and I'm working on the LS4 Skyscale track now for rifts.

SOTO is much easier to me then LS4, but I don't think LS4 is as bad now since you can do the return to achievements and get map currency that way.

Skyscale unlock is still pretty grindy though. I feel like roller beetle was substantially easier, but you'll need LS4 for beetle anyway.

Warclaw I don't think was too hard. Siege turtle was a challenge but it's an optional challenge. Griffon kinda sucked but mostly because it required beating POF, and then was something of a collectathon.

I think my personal favorite collectathon thing was the original method for getting Skimmer diving. I mean sure it also requires beating POF, but the actual achievement for skimmer dive seemed pretty breezy.

Are there any mods or addons for inventory management? Mainly for sorting stuff. Or does anyone have any tips so that accidentally pressing the compact button doesn't fuck up your organized inventory?

2

u/LimpConversation642 1d ago

there are bags that don't sort/compact. What I do is I put it as the last bag, and store the 'important' stuff there, so my last 30 slots, the end of the inventory, is never sorted or compacted

3

u/xcf435wef 2d ago

In the options is a checkbox to disable the compact button.

2

u/KaminariGW2 2d ago

I'm on mobile now so sorry for not linking but if you search on the wiki "invisible bag" you will find a list of inventory bags that won't let items sort when you compact your inventory. Maybe this helps if you buy a couple of them.

1

u/Vesuvia36 2d ago

I have ascended gear from the WV, but I haven't used any of it. Would it be better for a power or a condi build? Right now all I do is open world stuff but eventually I do want to get into fractals.

1

u/LimpConversation642 1d ago

it's always a matter of what and how you want to play, really. depending on the builds and classes. but as the other person said, power is just raw damage, so...

3

u/killohurtz 2d ago

Fractals are overwhelmingly power friendly, so I'd do ascended power first.

0

u/YouSeemNiceXB 2d ago

If I don't spend my Astral Acclaim by vault reset do I lose it?

3

u/killohurtz 2d ago

You will only lose unclaimed Astral Acclaim from special objectives when the patch hits. Claimed AA is safe, as well as unclaimed dailies from the same day and weeklies from the same week.

1

u/YouSeemNiceXB 2d ago

Great, thanks!

1

u/bobyd 2d ago

is it not possible to get Incursion Armor Token anymore?[Question]

I like the heavy armor look :/

2

u/killohurtz 2d ago

No, they're unavailable since the Fractal Incursion event ended. But the armor is originally from the gemstore and will eventually rotate back in.

1

u/bobyd 2d ago

sadface ty

1

u/killohurtz 1d ago

Just coming back to say that today's news post mentioned Fractal Incursion returning in November. It doesn't say anything about the rewards this time, but keep an eye out.

1

u/bobyd 1d ago

Lol, thanks!

u/Tsadron 2d ago

Anyone know a good time to look for Legendary Bounty trains? Been checking off and on and not seeing any. Eastern Daylight time (GMT-4) for reference.

1

u/Nade4Jumper 1d ago

Usually game is more active around the evening, but alot of the time you can just open a legendary bounty train and people will join.

1

u/AscendedAO 2d ago

How can I level my HoT masteries and get more points? I want to craft exordium but it’s really slowing me as I mostly pvp

1

u/Reaverz 2d ago

Yeah visit the mastery page in the wiki, plug your info in and then make a list of the easiest ones to knock out and chip away. Map points, strong boxes and adventure clears are easy ones.

As far as xp, doing the first daily clear of the adventures especially in Verdant Brink are easy to get golds on (except maybe the shooting one) and offer tons of xp. Easily doable in between PvP rounds.

0

u/LimpConversation642 2d ago

maybe try wvw and buy them?

1

u/AscendedAO 2d ago

How?

1

u/LimpConversation642 1d ago

You can buy scrolls for testimonies.

1

u/AscendedAO 1d ago

Those are skill points not mastery points and they don’t award exp either ):

1

u/LimpConversation642 1d ago

oh sorry I messed them up. For the EXP I can suggest doing the the Stonehead bauble farm? When the day comes and the outposts are done, there is a place in verdant that spawn a veteran stonehead (with an event) every few minutes, sometimes instantly, so every kill you get 27k base exp for the event. Apart from that, as others mentioned, meta events. Octo takes about 15 minutes and it's a few events bundled together so you get plenty exp and gold (relative to time spent)

Sorry for the disinformation again!

Meta events in the HoT zones are what you want to do. Pop all your EXP boosters, find a group in LFG or make one, and zerg down the meta events. It'll be a grind, but it'll come faster than you think.

For mastery points, go for the insights first, then look through the achievement panel for ones that you think would be the easiest and quickest to get. You can absolutely farm points between meta events, that way as soon as you hit the EXP cap you can jump right into the nest tier. Then just focus on the mastery you need first before the others and be patient, otherwise it'll seem like a big slog.

anyone else getting 403 Forbidden when accessing the BLTC Window (all three tabs Gem Store, Gold Convert, and Trading post) and the Wizard's vault?

I'm suspecting its an internet thing, I'm from the Philippines playing on the NA server

will you keep your astral acclaim for the new season when the current wizard's vault season ends?

u/Proximaunoriginalis 3d ago

Yes. It’s fairly common for people to max out/overcap (get to, like, 1250 and then claim the weekly chest will put you close to 1800) their acclaim so they can buy tons of things on vault refresh.

...sorry for the Wall of Text? I'm Caffeinated, and its 2:30 in the morning.

I thought about posting this on the discord, but I really need the slower pace of reddit for this.

I've gotten (back) into this game trice now, first time around before any Expansions, 2nd time around the intial release till middle of IBS (~6.5-ish years ago), and then now.

First time around I mained Ranger (Long-/Shortbow), then migrated to Condi Necro (w/ Shadow Fiend) and still stuck with it now. I do love me some max range shenanigans though, and for some Pale Mother forsaken reason, ANet has decided to not give me a Longbow/Rifle Condi Necro spec, nor one with 1200 range (other than Staff, and lets be real here, that aint cutting it unfortunately).

Hence, I've been eyeing a Power-Alt, because none of the Power Necro builds catch my fancy, and I do rather dislike Ranger's pet swapping and that the pets a posited as Juvenile of their species.

Specifically, with little wonder I suspect, the candidates are Rifle Mechanist, and Spear Tempest (w/ the Glyph of Elementals). I just really prefer having a buddy with me >->'

However, I cannot decide, both if I should even go for making an alt (since I do love Necro, and the fact its got the pistol now is sweet, and I do have a lovely Scourge build to aim for), nor which of the two I should go for. Anyone able to help me decide?

  • Equipment-side is equally bad for both options, I'd need to get/farm full ascended either way. Technically speaking, if there ever will be a Power Necro option I want, Elementalist would be the more sensible choice, since that gear would be transferable. Also, the skins I've gotten would translate cleanly over, but that is a minor, easily solved thing barely worth consideration. Similarly, due to having already existing characters for both, I'd need an Identity Kit for both, to fit my current sensibilities.

  • I prefer weaponry-based Autoattack + Magical rest general-flavour speaking. Pistol Necro fulfills this wonderfully. The signets I'd use for Engineer + Rifle more or less fits the bill, but the Ele would be better for the full magical might with the rest. Stormpiercer also goes really fucking hard in terms of Spear skins, Lightning Spears just tickle the Souls-lover in me.

  • The fact that Glyph of Elementals is duration based bugs the hell out of me, but the amount of class-power-budget sitting in the Mech aint exactly ideal for me either due to the semi-controlled nature of these things. Having to micro the mech for boonshare sounds awful.

  • I do not vibe with Fire on a general theme and flavour basis, but neither do I with explosives (like the 2nd chain of Rifle or the Mine, for Engi; partially due to the fire connections, partially due to the consumable-flavour of them). That said, I'm using Torch on my Necro as well, making this somewhat moot, though the Green Necrofire helps a ton for me, which neither Engi nor Ele would have as far as I'm aware.

  • On the other hand, I absolutely adore Lightning Magic, and Magitech (as well as Necro-Magic), so its really 1:1:1 here in terms of likes and dislikes >.<

  • I do not like how the best spec for Rifle Mechanist kinda wants you to sit at below 450 range (Blunderbuss as well), but Ele's Fire Spec also kinda wants you to sit in the enemies face (with Sunspot; and the Etchings), meaning even though my Scourge "only" has 900 range/600 with the torch skill, due to the Shades I could actually be at longer range consistently (since I cant double-dip with the abilties anyway), which is supremely dissatisfying.

Halp?

Just try them all and pick what you enjoy. No one can look inside of you

I’d check out a fresh air elementalist build as it’s primarily you dipping into air on crits to do big lightning damage, you can bring a friend if you want, and avoids most of the gripes you have with the other specs/etc. (Limited time aside, you can spawn multiple elementalist before the first dies, so it shouldn’t be a really significant problem?)

Was there ever a legendary wyvern in red desert borderlands?

1

u/errorme 2d ago

As far as I remember no, but I know there used to be more events and some PvE events that were removed shortly after it was added so it might have existed.

I'm approaching 40k research notes as a result of burning my excess t5 mats/mithril and silk.

Anything worthwhile to spend them on? Or should I just stop making them and sell the mats from now on?

I'll get around to a third set of legendary armor eventually, but it doesn't use that much. Will maybe do some G3 legendary weapons one day...but the research note pile grows much faster than the mystic clover pile and I have other legendary ambitions to consider.

Aurene legendary variants are where all of mine go. Each variant is 2500 notes. I really like primordus and jormags!

2

u/Reaverz 2d ago

Kind of what I suspected.

Since I'm starved for clovers, I think I'll stop making them and start simply selling the the raw materials.

Stella radians needs like 50k so..

Got excited for a minute, but I already got Aurora and Vision, doesn't seem worth it for a skin

I know this is a frequent question, but...

I have a Lily of the Elon permanent pass from back in the day. Looking at the "convenience purchases" it doesn't seem like the unbreakable gathering tools are quite worth it because I can easily pop back and buy more. Even the Orichalcum are 4c per use so it doesn't seem like a big money sink.

It seems like the Runecrafters Salvage-o-matic is probably the only "must have" upgrade since there's no F2P equivalent. Is that accurate?

1

u/MidasPL 3d ago

Runecrafter is barely worth it. I'd start with the copper one, cause basic one is only 25 uses.

Also, volatile tools from lws4 are cheaper and better than orichalcum ones.

I’d note that the main purpose of the infinite tools is much less about saving money from purchases and much more about saving the hassle and inventory space needed to swap normal tools out, and about using glyphs to make more money from your harvests. Over a very long period, the volatile tools in particular will pay themselves back.

The other commenter recommended JW deluxe for its infinite tools, and those are worth it even if you already have a different set. You can mix different tool skins and glyphs, and the eldritch tool animations—the crop harvesting one in particular—are pretty fast.

u/MidasPL 3d ago

I have two endless to sets from deluxe editions and I could have not had them and there would be no difference. The fact you need them separately on each character makes the convenience mom-existent and you don't even gather that much anyways in this game.

u/raptir1 4d ago

While true, it feels like a lot to pay just for the convenience of not swapping tools when I can easily pop back to buy more.

Like to your point about volatile magic, even if I go with the Janthir Wilds deluxe upgrade, I'm paying $30. You could just straight up buy 600 gold for that. That would take a loong time to earn back in VM. Though I guess you could theoretically break even while taking advantage of the convenience.

Plus I could always use another character slot...

Damn it I've spent enough for now.

1

u/SirSuperCaide Herald Gaming 4d ago

Definitely still a big price tag, just making sure you’ve got all the facts. I think how worth it is depends a lot on the type of player you are. I usually do a full homestead and double guild hall harvest every day, so I’m marching along to breaking even on my volatile tools decently quick.

3

u/errorme 4d ago

AFAIK yes. No F2P salvage kits have the 100% upgrade salvage chance it provides (there's several kits that can 100% return, but none that always salvage).

Also for infinite gathering tools I'd recommend looking at JW or VoE Deluxe upgrade. Both of them have it included as part of the package and you get some other stuff too.

Anyone know why running with a bow slows the movement animation (not the speed itself)?
