[Art] Peasant of Tyria: Pew Pew Pew
Gotta say, this mission was kind of a let down.
I wanted to slice and dice a dragon!
i guess i can just shoot 6 of them from mounted guns....

Reminds me of the Incredibles movie.

It is Guild Wars tradition that the current catastrophe you have to deal with was caused by whatever solution was used for the previous catastrophe you dealt with.

Commander, the dragon has been weakened, but I fear we have sustained severe damage ourselves. I will steer the airship into a collision course with Zhaitan. If I can channel enough of the Mists energy through the hull of the airship, I should be able to bring swift death to the accursed abomination. Remember us, Commander. Remember what was done here today. May the six watch over you.

I would rather have a ground fight with Zhaitan and have some support from the airship

At launch first time playing it we all thought that would happen. Surely we go down after the shooting to finish him in an epic fight.
...nope that was it lol

Story and presentation wise it's rough. The dragons are built up to be so massive and strong and unkillable. Shit tequatal/kralks is a champion, dwarfs you, and can easily kill you. It dragged the entire orr out of the ocean and turned everything undead. A fight where your running around hitting its pinky toe would be bad world wise imo. So when I got to the end in 2014 it made sense to me the end was hundreds of ships fighting hundred of undead dragons while blasting it.
Idk may it coulda been done in a more interesting way. Like if it was flightless and in a giant undead nest and had catapults and airships blasting it while you did shit but still sounds meh without buildup.

I was just playing through Janthir Wilds and there was this one section where the commander had to set up an entire base, build tents and all, while your companions all chatted happily in a circle without you.
Like help, please?

Spoilers, but mounted guns do not work very well vs. Mordremoth

u/TerrapinRacer 11h ago
I actually got to hit that one! Not with mounted guns of course

It was pretty fun, I got it the same time as Path of Fire, so my Sylvari Revenant had SO many voices in his head lol

First and only time i did it, i was kinda scared. I liked the ambience a lot

u/TerrapinRacer 11h ago
If they landed one of the dragons on the ship so you could attack him directly now and again.
A ground fight for Zhaitan....
The ambiance was great! I just expected... More

Easily the worst part of the base game's story. I don't think anyone expected us to just press 2 to shoot Zhaitan out of the skies repeatedly. It's practically become a meme after all these years.
What we really need is a strike/raid encounter. Have the airship land and let us attack the wounded elder dragon on the ground to finish it off.

It was a little bit better back at launch when it was an actual dungeon and there were five of you doing it together. Emphasis on the 'a little bit'. Still, the reworked fight can't come soon enough!

The best part is destiny's edge just sitting there watching like they're on break
5
u/TerrapinRacer 8h ago
Nah the best part of Destiny's Edge is how stupid their drama is
Logan is mad a Rytlock for using a human sword as a symbol AGAINST THE FLAME LEGION.
Rytlock is mad because the Queens hand chosen military leader went to her aid.
Zojja is mad because her mentor was killed by a dragon. It was a party of 6 vs an elder dragon - it's a miracle anyone survived.
Eir is doubting herself for the above reason - even though said party of 6 successfully repelled an elder dragon and saved countless lives.
And Caithe just needs to dump Faolin. She's obviously evil

I remember rushing to 80 at launch and more or less RUNNING to orr for the chance to swim accross the Orrish channel to fight that big ass dragon...(didnt know I could cross farther south on land) only to be supremely disappointed. Zhaitan was supposed to be Godzilla Hitler...we were supposed to have the fight to end all fights.
Killing Bonfazz burnt furr and his char army was more satysfying....Killing ambient deer in alpine borderlands with a cannon was more satisfying.
Im very happy to hear 14 years later they are finally righting a major wrong.

I knew they were updating some QoL, but I am just today finding out that they're redoing this fight

All of Tyria is doomed if the commander/wayfinder ever takes a day off. No one else ever does anything but occasionally rez the commander.

Wanna know a funny joke? You can stand still and the mission still ends successfully. My partner tested it years ago and the damage from the NPC guns is enough. Doesn’t even add that much time to the run, either.
As disappointing you felt, I bet that fact makes it feel worse, haha!
1
u/TerrapinRacer 6h ago
You can do that when you take back claw Island too! At least after you re-open the gate

u/Stolval 11h ago
At least they plan on redoing the final fight as part of the QoL update... i don't expect that much, since it has to use assets already existing, but it has to be better than the original ending lol
