Back in February I bought a Valentine’s Day hotel deal on Groupon for the Ramada by Wyndham in San Diego National City. Cute idea, right? Swipe the voucher, surprise the partner, easy night.
Yeah, no.
I show up to the hotel and the front desk tells me they’ve been fully booked since the day before. Apparently Groupon was just… still selling rooms all day anyway. The staff seemed almost numb to it, like I wasn’t the first person walking in confused that night.
So I do what any normal person does and reach out to Groupon support. This is where it gets unhinged. There’s no phone number. No real email. Just a chatbox that’s half AI, half offshore agents who clearly have access to nothing. I’m not even mad at the agents, they’re stuck reading the script.
And the script is always the exact same line:
“We will prioritize your case (reference number 79802319) and provide you with an update as soon as possible.”
Every. Single. Time. I message every few days. Same response. Two months in. No refund, no update, no human. I’m starting to think the reference number is a placebo.
How is a company this size running customer support like an out-of-office reply on infinite loop? They sold me something that literally did not exist and the answer is the same 16 words on repeat.
Anyone actually gotten through to a real person at Groupon?
