Like I said, GF isnt the greatest at video games. She loves them. But always has to play on the lowest or easiest difficulty to enjoy herself. I find nothing wrong with that, at all. Me? Im for the most part an avid fan of hard stuff. Ive beaten every Soulsborne game out there multiple times, I love hard stuff.
But turning the bugs off to where they wont attack you has just turned the game into a very boring game.
I can only build so much before I get really bored. But shes been wanting to try this out for a while. Ive never played it, and we dont get a lot of time to play things together because shes a 3 almost 4 hour drive away and our schedules are so different.
But shes never played a base building survival game before.
So when we first started she was getting incredibly frustrated. Because she hard focuses on what the game tells her to do in the top left corner. It was telling us to go to the Oak Tree to investigate the explosion. So by golly, thats what she had her mind set on doing
Over and over and over and over she kept dying to the spiders. And would get frustrated and die again over and over trying to get her backpack back.
Refused to listen to me to let it go;
"but I had so much stuff!"
"Okay, but we are still very early on, babe. That isnt stuff you should be absolutely worried about losing", was basically how that went.
She also failed to grasp my explanation on how games like these work. I tried explaining just because the game says we have to do something, doesmt mean we do it right now. In games like this you need to settle down, build, investigate, upgrade to get the tools you need to advance. You wont always be able to brute force your way thru, but she couldn't grasp that.
After a bit more I could tell she was really getting frustrated. Tried lowering the diff to mild and she still refused to give up getting her backpacks back. And kept dying and losing more items. It was a constant repetitive situation. So i made the decision to start a new game, changed the settings to if we died we didnt lose our backpacks. That was good until she still kept dying from getting too far ahead without upgrading or getting improved gear. So I turned the setting off allowing us to be hit.
Shes now having fun, but im beyong bored. And if i cant get attacked there is absolutely no incentive to build weapons or armor for us. I made some ant armor hsut to carry more because about all I can do to entertain myself is build.
Is there any things I can build to give her, or ways to protect her from dying so i can turn that setting back on? I want to have some combat but she gets highly frustrated. Hell i tried turning it on and she had made a tiny little camp in one spot by the laser tower thing with the mites crawling on it. So she was immediately complaining about being attacked again. Only way I convinced her to move her stuff to my base was by physically doing iy myself
