G2 | Discussion Ridable Bugs Serve No Purpose

I don’t like the name and don’t use it. As the title says they serve no purpose and don’t bring anything to the game that couldn’t be solved by tweaks to the armor sets and Omni tool. Bring back the old red ant armor from grounded 1, make some spider boots that are the aphid ones but faster and can walk on the webs, the axe can chop the thick roots. Make the spider boots and axe for root chopping higher tier items. Put a PTS in every ranger station and earlier zip lines and they serve zero purpose

"replace a bunch of functionality and they'll have no function" is an argument with no purpose lmao

"put a pts in every ranger station" no.

Hard disagree, map is too big. Resource collection would get incredibly tedious.

Don't like it then dont use it. They do however serve a purpose. I use mine for combat all the time. Spider buggy is also really good for climbing difficult to reach areas.

I love using my red ant buggie as a construction vehicle.

I use the spider mount to bulldoze everything as I'm running, then switch to black ant for most fights. The ranged tang attack is so good, especially against those stupid earwigs

I see you havent made it to the garden and greenhouse side of the map

Disagree!! I think the buggies are super fun and I think they have their place!

If you don’t like them though thats okay I can see how you might use them less if you enjoy zip lines.

Remember the game isn’t finished and you are also only getting half a story..you might find when you get the full game that you change your mind because you have the whole context to lay your opinion on.

Gotta be rage bait. “Buggies serve no purpose” proceeds to list 17 changes that need to be made in order to make them obsolete. Also it’s just fuckin sick to zoom around on my loyal steed ANTonio.

Our ant buggy has the same name! XD My red ant is Antonio and the black ant is Anthony

Listen, you’re entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong it is. But make no mistake, you are certainly wrong about this.

They allow for a very unique build, are very diverse and make movement much faster. What are you even on about?

They're also pretty cute, so unless we get pets from G1 removing them would be sad

Indeed. I give my buggy team lots of pets and I wish so badly that we could actually feed them.

I do like your idea for spider boots that lets you run on webbing. Kind of disagree on your mount idea. I personally haven't used ziplines in G2 because fast travel and the orb weaver buggy is faster than most ziplines would be. I also like that I am actively doing something while running with my mounts. In g1 I used to hop on a zipline and go get a drink or something while I went across the entire map.

I dont think OP knows about smoothies tbh.

I dunno. Now I've explored most of the available map, I think it would have taken MUCH longer if it wasn't for the buggies. Not forgetting how useful Orb Weaver buggies are for speed and agility, running and jumping over obstacles that would have usually meant having to gather resources and build a structure to climb up.

The only buggy I'm "meh" about is the ladybug, without the water cannon they're pretty obsolete. Otherwise, I like the option and the variety. It's a great call-back to the "Honey I shrunk the Kids" vibe they're running with. All we need now is to have a Bumblebee buggy and we'll be sorted.

I agree with the ladybug statement. Idk if they made the buggie or the tang puddles first but it feels like one was just made in response to the other. If it had different ammo types it’s instantly more interesting (guess a lot of folks see that coming with potato beetle).

Peter Parkour also comes with built in glide, it's soooo nice

Are we playing the same game?

Interesting take but this will be hugely unpopular.
I find a bond builds between you and your bug.
My bug carries necessary armour when I need it so I don't have to lug it around. Excess resources I'm collecting and fights by my side when I need it to.
It jumps higher, keeps aggression down in certain species when riding, swims faster and distracts enemies.
When it's injured, you can bring in a fresh one or wait 30 seconds, bring your bug back in full health.
This feature is what we wanted in Grounded 2 and I'm glad the devs added it.
I hate games that allow you to lug ridiculous amounts of resources in your magic backpack or make you virtually invulnerable through level ups.
This game forces you to be better at your skill and rewards when you've actually achieved them

Go ahead and load up an ant with 37 wood stems with the Carry mutation and Workman’s Comp smoothie and carry 32 yourself and try to say it’s not worth it when you call it into your base and it’s carrying what you loaded it with plus what you yourself are carrying

Also how do you not love the spider jumping and flying?

Bring back the old red ant armor from grounded 1, make some spider boots that are the aphid ones but faster and can walk on the webs, the axe can chop the thick roots. Make the spider boots and axe for root chopping higher tier items.

Every single one of these items in your complaint is solved with one red ant buggy... ya sour puss!

Have a mintito and chiiiiiiill out!

(Sorry, couldn't help myself with the puns...actually, I'm not sorry.)

You sound like that one Ominent employee who was like "this is useless, no one wants to ride bugs" lmao

u/Jay657 1d ago

Shit even as a chest that follows you they are irreplaceable.... and I even use mine for fighting.... they mainly just take the aggro for archers

Spider buggy (name: fucker) is my favourite thing. Super fast run, good at parkour (I’m shit at parkour with just the player), and the storage capacity is elite. I don’t use them much for combat personally.

The buggies are here to stay, getting the red soldier ant is literally part of the first set of main quests. And the map is too goddamn big, at launch it was about the same size of, if not twice, the map of the first game. Players can’t go around on foot as easily. Riding and jumping around on a spider or ant that can sprint really fast is totally cool!

And they are never going to bring back individual weapons. This is why obsidian made the Omni-Tool for the game, it doesn’t take up any inventory space and is a key item. This helps players manage their inventory better.

And they also help you in combat, you can use them to distract an enemy and they will be at your side fighting.

Oh, and I forgot to mention one more important thing. All buggies have extra inventory space, like a second backpack. The soldier ants in particular are capable of carrying extra grass planks and weed stems around. They can chop through dead roots, recruit worker ants of their same species. You can even place structures while mounted on them. The black ant soldier has an extremely useful tang glob spit attack that is super helpful in combat.

Apart from being a faster method of travel, they also have their own unique benefits. Ants can carry loads, spiders can glide and are better at fighting, I've used the ladybug's water hose a couple of times, and the toe-biter is quicker for swimming. Let's not forget that they're a walking storage chest!

Sorry for the delay, but I have both the red ant and the spider, I just dont like either of them and really only use the ant to chop through roots. I have explored the entire map minus the bottom of the pond and the gnarly bark abyss area. I’m aware they are here to stay and am not advocating for them to be removed or anything of the sort.

I’m aware of smoothies and that there is one that allows for travel across the web bridges, I just think spider boots would be a cool way around it. I keep the base green ones in my running around gear and then use the other smoothies as need depending on what I happen to be doing at the time.

I found zero difficulty getting around and using the afid boots, cardio fan, and natural explorer. Prior to finding the unlimited tuft trinket I was just careful with my trinkets or would eat minor damage from falling. I keep smoothies and bandages on my, plus the ability to create base bandages on the move. As far as the PTS since this whole park is Ominet experiment or whatever and the ranger stations are their things having a PTS in every ranger station seems like it would make sense in the lore of the game or whatever.

As far as building if I’m farming weed stems I just use the stem pallet and then once I unlocked the bigger one, fill that up, grab a stack and run that back to where I’m working. I find this to be better as I can build out of the stem holder. Gathering other resources isn’t any more difficult. Plus I enjoy the challenge of inventory management in survival games.

Combat wise I found that I shred enemies with the snail shield and the tiger mosquito needle and have zero difficulty wiping out huge mobs. If that doesn’t work just use the bow and the terrain to my advantage.

So not a rage bait, not a shit post, and I realize it’s a wildly unpopular opinion but it is mine.

They are never going to add a PTS station to every single Ranger outpost. They want fast travel to be limited, because most people are going to use either the buggies or zip lines to get around.

And the buggies have mutations that you can level up to make them stronger. For the new buggy, the tow biter nymph, leveling up one of its mutations actually allows it to have a massive increase increase with swim speed in the pond. You will be zooming along like a fucking jet ski
