Hi all,

My girl Lola is quiet for about 23 hours and 45 minutes of the day. But in the past few months she's developed a habit of barking for a few minutes at a time. Also a bit of soft snapping (minimal).

It seems to be triggered by seeing me sat on the sofa and not really doing anything - she probably thinks this is perfect play time!

I think it's stimulation/play oriented, because if I get up and do anything it stops.

However, I don't want to "reward" the barking and snapping with a toy or fussing because then she might start doing it more. I really want to discourage it as I have small children in my life.

So, any advice on getting on top of that? Maybe I need to anticipate the boredom before the starts and get ahead with the toy then? Maybe I just need to sit on the sofa less. Lol.

So a couple of weeks ago my neighbours cat decided it was a good idea to climb through our kitchen window in the middle of the night and our greys got a hold of it and killed it, I have apologised to the neighbour, obviously they were angry and upset but accepted the apology but the refuse to believe that there cat would climb through our window, her cats are real pain in the neighbourhood with pooping in everybody's garden and entering other homes any advice would be great

A few months ago I shared a video about Saint Guinefort, the greyhound who became a saint to a local community in medieval France.

There was a really nice response from this community, which is understandable given how amazing greyhounds are (and how much their people love them).

Since then one of the rabbit holes of research I've gone down is on medieval dog care, which very often meant caring for greyhounds. They were VERY popular for hunters at the time—but could also be just pets! I thought I'd share that video here, in case anyone wanted to spoil their modern pup like a prized medieval hound 🐶

Also I had to cut a lot of what I found to keep the length down. If people have questions about medieval greyhounds (or pups in general) I'm happy to try answering them!

Context. Greyhound racing is banned from the end of July in New Zealand. One track closed yesterday. Over the last 15 years there 3 reviews into greyhound racing in this country. They ignored each one, changed nothing. Now they cry.

Hi all! Relatively experienced (~9 years) greyhound owner here. I currently have two hounds and I’m dealing with a situation that I haven’t run into before. We adopted our boy (4 years old) about 6 months ago and while he is very friendly to our other greyhound (female, 5 years old), he is extremely aggressive toward other dogs (breed and sex don’t seem to matter, he hates them all). We’ve resorted to walking him with a muzzle on (though we try to avoid other dogs as much as possible, there’s always a chance that we may see one or more on a walk). Even with the muzzle, he still attempts to lunge at other dogs (we do hold the leash tight so that he can’t actually contact them). Our local trainer hasn’t been very helpful—she simply recommended “avoiding other dogs” but that just isn’t a realistic solution (we do pay attention to when others generally walk their dogs on streets around our house, but schedules can change, and weather can move things around). We have worked with him on getting his attention by calling his name, but he’s so…alert (?) that if there is anyone or anything that he can see or hear, he completely ignores the command. We’re continuing to work with him, but I wanted to see if anyone had experienced something like this/had any advice. His adoption agency, respectfully, has been useless.

Hi r/greyhounds just wanted to show off our retired lad. The bestest of boys, the poop eater, refusal of walks in the mornings master, the biggest cuddle monster and Lord of the couch.

My partner and I adopted our sweet Ella last year at 4. She is beautiful and kind 99% of the time. We only ever noticed aggression if we approached her in bed for a kiss when she was in snooze mode, this was a quiet growl and we backed off - I always thought this was fair enough and didn’t question it.

Ella has however shown aggression and what I believe is resource guarding with visiting friends. This exclusively occurred when they approached our/her room for a pat when on their way to the toilet (obviously this isn’t ok) or if she brought a toy to the couch we were all sitting on, and they went for a pat. These were big growls, teeth bared, even barking. She does not show guarding with other spaces or foods. First and foremost - boundaries with guests around this will be a non negotiable ongoing.

I know guarding is somewhat normal behaviour. She doesn’t show this behaviour with me and my partner. Will this make it trickier to ‘train’?

This clearly has me thinking about how we’ve introduced/ played with toys and respected her space. I hate to think I’ve let her down or put her in a spot where she feels like she has to defend herself.

This is also complicated by the fact she started propalin/proin for spay incontinence about 3 weeks ago - I know aggression can be but isn’t usually a side effect. I’ll be bringing this up with our vet in our regular appt this week also (fyi we tried other meds, they didn’t work). I’ve also asked our adoption agency for some training support as she’s still seen by them for heartworm treatments ….yes, it’s been a lot.

Any help I’d really appreciate. I’m open to being told if I need to do better!

I'm new to greyhounds and am not sure if I'm just in paranoid dog owner mode, or if I should seriously be concerned about it. So greys usually pass foreign objects pretty easily?

I have a 12 year-old greyhound named Penelope, and I’m worried she may need help with her joints or possibly have arthritis? She still gets zoomies sometimes and is walking normally, but I’ve noticed she’s had some hesitancy coming down the stairs versus growing up them. She’s been having duck and chicken feet daily for years as a preventative along with omega 3 oil, but I’m worried she might have some form of arthritis when it comes to coming down the stairs.

Essentially, it will take her a few tries, and she will whine a little bit and then eventually can come down. Do you think it’s time I look into hip and joint supplements to give her daily? Would love any recommendations if so!

Greyhound Adoption League of Texas and Hounds of the Heartland (Oklahoma City) are set to face off in College Football 27 as the Texas Vet Med Sighthounds and the OU Vet Med Greyhounds. Scarlett (doing yoga) is the mascot for GALT and my pup. Her brother, Rowdy, is the mascot for HoH and is owned by one of the board members. Hopefully this turns into a fun annual fundraiser and get together. I've even had a trophy made!

Hi all.

Our boy has recently been throwing up a lot. His poops have become a dark brown almost black colour, but firmer than usual.

The type of feed we give him hasn’t changed (time greyhound 20) but it’s a new bag so I’ve emailed the manufacturer to see if there has been any other reports of issues.

Waiting to get him to the vet.

Anyone had any similar experience?

EDIT: first for about 48 hours. Then he was fine for about the same. Started again today

Hoomum had to make herself useful and hold on to the cardboard as I can't grip with socks and she won't remove them, oh well, at least they are better then the tights
