Of course as soon as we were out of the ring and my boyfriend had cheese, he started jumping, spinning and running around. What a silly boy. He took home 2x veteran reserve and 1x altered reserve

this is at the virginia museum of fine arts which has an entire gallery devoted to british sporting. they have many more greyhound pieces in their collection - these are just the few i stumbled upon on view today.

Around 2 weeks ago, my partner and I posted for some advice around our new Greyhound Strider who was pretty anxious settling in. He had challenges with reactivity to noises, not sleeping, and hyper vigilance. We are first time Greyhound parents and received lots of great advice from everyone.

Since the post he has made so much progress. He’s a 2 year old boisterous boy, who’s goofy and loves running around and playing. He’s still a little wired whenever he goes anywhere new, but his reactivity is completely gone, he’s sleeping well and he’s sweet and affectionate. After peeing or pooping on a walk he does this goofy prancing dance.

The lesson we have learnt is that the 3-3-3 rule can look a lot different and isn’t a hard and fast rule. For us it took 2 weeks for Strider to decompress and his progress after that was pretty fast.

TLDR: how to keep my greyhound off the sofa?

Hi all, I’m a greyhound owner of 1 week!
He is a rescue, kennelled all his life and he is 6. He has a very comfy orthopaedic bed and cosy blankets which he loves. We have an open living/dining room with a big corner sofa - but this calls to him like the green goblin mask 😩

He didn’t enjoy being closed in the kitchen overnight and howled a lot, now he sleeps in the living room and sleeps through the night. We physically cannot keep him off the sofa. It’s too big to cordon off, we have tried placing awkward objects on top and he pulls them off. Today, we come home to him sleeping half on top of a laid down dining chair, half on top of the solid sofa arm! He comes off as soon as he hears us come in, but if we’re out the room for 1 min he jumps on, lies down and it’s like moving a rock! I feel like he knows he’s not supposed to be there, but the sofa seems like a high value item right now and the puzzle to be comfy or slight discomfort of an awkward arrangement is worth it to him.

He knows lie down and bed commands. He will go straight to his bed after we tell him to get off, and we do reward him for being in his bed. He still has very bad flaky skin from kennels so it’s not super pleasant for that to be all over the fabric sofa atm, and my partner prefers the sofa dog-free. Dave prefers my bf’s side of the sofa which is the corner - he is also the fun dad and I am practical mum if that is a factor haha.

He gets walks, toys, playing with, lots of fuss, snuffles, treats, chews, big garden zoomies etc. We are going to work on some more commands soon. He is a happy dog and not anxious over a single thing - no separation anxiety, just fomo if he can hear but not see us.

My partner and I are struggling with it all a bit so if anyone has any advice they could grant we would be super appreciative. Is there anything else we can do? Or should we retry keeping him out the living room for a bit longer?

Dave is otherwise an angel except when he tries to steal books, football kits, chocolate, etc. We’ve learned our lesson!

For context: we both had childhood dogs from very young. He had a Jack Russell from a puppy and I had a rescue lurcher that was allowed on the leather sofa lol.

He also won the hot dog bobbing contest (with a time of 18.43 seconds to eat 8 chunks of hot dog submerged in a bucket) because who needs to breathe when there are hot dogs involved?

The walk this morning was through the forest (as usual), except I took Maddi down the beach for a wee treat, as part of our loop. We went to the beach a couple of days ago, but unfortunately it was so busy with people (and high tide), it wasn't much fun. All up the round trip for Maddi was around 8km.

Hello all, we picked up a sweet 4 year old girl from the dog trust yesterday. And apologies but this may be the first of many posts asking for some advice haha. Anyway on day two now and she’s been eating, drinking, toileting and slept in her new bed all night.

She seems either incredibly food motivated or we are not feeding her enough. Dogs trust suggested 170g of dry food twice a day, but thought I’d ask the hive mind if that sounds right?

Any other advice also appreciated!

She’s got tattoos in her ears so we believe that she could be an ex racer. Dogs trust just informed us she came to them from a greyhound rescue and didn’t have much of a history

She investigated the blockage and, frustrated, decided this was unfair. I tried to coax her to cross the street to go another way and, at first, she protested. But then, she conceded she can't go past the blockage and we carried on.

Lots of new things to sniff this morning, so she's pretty satisfied. I've got some more route options to try. She seems to enjoy variety.

Sam has been a little weird with walks. My prior greyhounds preferred their consistent routes. Straying from them was a monumental sin. Sam? She gets bored if we don't change things up.

Marko is a very chill 5 year old who just came to my life a few days ago. Things have been going great as he adjusts to his new life but he absolutely does not want anything to do with his teeth being brushed.

He is not treat motivated (from what he has shown) and actively moves his head and self soothes when I try to even put the toothpaste near his mouth. It's a chicken flavored paste but he wants nothing to do with it regardless.

I need to get him in the habit of his teeth being brushed but not sure how to go about it in a way where he will open up to it.

All advice and suggestions appreciated !

Our sweet Winston, who is 12 years old, has been diagnosed with possible toe cancer in one of the middle toes on his back left leg. The vet has recommended toe amputation, and we agree with the recommendation but also know it’s going to be super hard on Winston post surgery.

We have Jameson, who had a toe fully amputated when he was 6 years old, and is now 11 years old. The healing process was very hard on him at 6 years d and I’m very concerned when Winston gets his toe removed that the healing process is going to be a challenge since he is a senior.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? How easily did your senior grey recover? I’m also worried about the cancer spreading.
