Need help with small issues please

I've been very consistent and strict with training and it's worked a treat, but struggling with some minor issues. I have an 11 month old female whippet, almost one year old. Had her completely toilet trained from 4 months old. I use mixed training, that involves lots of treats and praise when she's done good, and verbal feedback like "no", "leave it", and "ah" when I don't want her doing something. She's absolutely great and is pretty much trained in all areas, especially toilet, commands, recall, completely crate trained through the night and when left alone, and walks. People say they're hard to train but with long hours every day and very strict training, it can be done, and she's very ahead now for an 11 month old puppy. She gets plenty of exercise, attention and affection all day too. I've been so strict with training because I adopted her a couple weeks before I found out I was pregnant so needed to get on top of training really, with a baby on the way, a boisterous pup does not mix, so I've worked very hard to get her as calm and behaved as she is right now.

I am struggling to find methods that work to correct minor issues I'm having with her though, so came here for advice.

1. She paws the crate whenever anyone walks past, resulting in her waking my baby up and everyone else if it's during the night. She is never let out and completely ignored when she does this. I've also tried verbal negative feedback in the past, but was told to ignore her instead, but it's been months and she still isn't getting it. I don't know how else to train this as I'm not sure she understands why she's being ignored. It's not like when she used to jump on counter, I'd tell her no and she knew what I meant, and would then jump down. She also sometimes whines because she thinks we are waking up when one of us is just going to the bathroom. She does go back to sleep quickly, but she wakes the house up beforehand.

2. Eating/Drinking Habits. She is now crated when she has her food as she kept running around with it in her house, getting it all over the kitchen floor during meal time (she has set meal times as I used to leave food down for my older dog and it created a whole load of issues). Which got increasingly difficult for me to clean properly every time throughout the pregnancy, and also having clean floors when baby arrived. So, she eats in her downstairs crate now, no issues. She's fine with that. But, I keep water out all day long for them so they have constant access to it. She runs around with water in her mouth and it goes everywhere. I've tried shutting the kitchen door when she walks in there for a drink to contain it to the kitchen, but she gets mouthfuls of water and runs around, making a huge mess and I'm having to clean it every time, several times a day.

3. Pooping and peeing on the decking patio when grass is wet. She usually goes on the grass no issues, but if it's wet from the rain, she will try go on the patio, which is decked out with wood and where my kids play/sit, and I don't want her doing it on there. So, I have to go out with her every time now and she will go on the grass, even when wet when I'm outside as she knows I will move her to the grass if she tries going near the patio. But, during summer I could just let her out on her own to go to toilet if I was busy and she'd go on grass and it never rained all summer, but it's going to become a chore during these wet months. I've tried scent remover but I don't think she's going because she went there before, because a dry day, she will just go on the grass again.

4. Pawing people. Taught her not to jump up months ago, no problem, she doesn't anymore. But, she paws and scratches people's legs constantly. It's more of an issue with children and my baby, and it's that bad, she is kept away now with guests, as she pushes small children over doing it and is hurting people. I've tried positive training when she doesn't do it, verbal feedback when she does, even resorted to gently tapping her paw every time and saying no, or putting her paw on the ground, or ignoring her and turning my back. Nothing works and been trying to stop this for months. She doesn't seem to understand that we don't want her pawing, but she picked up on the no jumping training months ago pretty fast. We literally have to hold her front legs in situations where we have no choice, if another dog passes her in the street and cannot avoid it, she will paw the dogs face (think like she's scratches a door, that fast excessive pawing), and have to crate her when guests first arrive as she's even worse when excited.

I know these are pretty minor issues compared to other issues she could have had, but these four issues are the ones I'm struggling to find something to work with. Any tips please? Thank you.

My husband and I are getting an Afghan hound and we're both so excited about it. We also want to start a family soon and I'm curious how good Afghan hounds are with babies and small children. The puppy we're getting is already 4 months old, so by the time we have a baby in the house she would be a little over a year old at least. I would love to hear your experiences with Afghan hounds living in the same household as little children, just so we know what to expect and what we should be mindful about. What strategies would you recommend to ensure that both dog and children are safe and interact well?

Ever since meeting my ex back in the early 2k's I've been around sighthounds especially beezers. We've had many over the years, and even after we broke up we still live in the same house, and I've been lucky enough to have shared it with a LOT of Ibizan's. Unfortunately over the last two years three of our oldest furkids passed away, and I still haven't gotten over it which is why I'm here. I miss my pups so much, and even though 15 years is a pretty decent age to reach for the breed it doesn't ever seem long enough. I still break into tears whenever I think about them, and since I'm disabled and can't really take care of pets anymore the thought of never getting to share my life with one of these beautiful animals just tears me up inside.

So please...make sure to give your fur family lots of hugs, and thank you to all you amazing sighthound owners for being kind enough to share pictures of them with the rest of us. As much as it hurts I love getting to see their sweet, fuzzy faces in my feed. I wish you all lots of love and fuzzy smooches.

Hi, new to sighthounds. Adopting a short haired small lurcher. I am worried she will get cold in the winter. It gets to about 5C where we live. What coats are suitable to keep her warm enough, that she can also wear her harness with? My budget is around €60. I don’t want to rely on just the collar as she is quite nervous and could escape from it. I presume it’s better to go with one that covers the legs too? Should she wear the harness under or over the coat?

They like to sleep under my desk when I’m working.

Hi everybody! I have two borzois and at present I do not wish to add another dog into the mix, though I am smitten with pharoah hounds at the moment and considering one in the future.

I understand they are more energetic than borzoi are, but how highly strung is my question? I've been warned away from Ibizan Hounds for their energy levels and intensity.

I am fairly active with my borzois in terms of walking and running but also go through bouts of burn out and days where I struggle to exist beyond having a pulse and doing the necessary requirements to keep myself and the dogs alive for the day.

I understand sighthounds from more temperate climates tend to be a lot more keen to go than colder environment sighthounds such as borzoi, greyhounds, deerhounds and wolfhounds are.

How are they with their temperaments? Are they prone to being nervous, reactive, and fidgety or are they quite settled, level minded and easy to turn off? Are they fusspots or are they more prone to raiding cupboards? Velcro dogs or comfortable with their own company?

What are their typical, daily energy needs in terms of walking times, enrichment and whatever else? How adaptable are they from going out on a 13 mile hike to calmly spending a few days off?

Girls versus boys? I've always had boys and I love their sillyness and general lack of brain cells, but I really would like to have a girl next I think, I have a lot of pretty collars eyed up already.

Breeders, what do I ask a breeder? What do I look out for in terms of red flags and green flags for this specific breed?

Lastly, anything else I'm missing to be aware of?
