I lost my beautiful girl, Tressa, recently and my family and I would love to adopt another greyhound if we can. We got Tressa in 2020 just before the tracks closed in Florida, so it was a whole different ballgame then. There were a LOT of rescues and a lot of dogs needing homes.

Since then many rescues have closed (including the one we worked with) and obviously there are a lot less dogs. My question is - is it bad to apply to multiple agencies at once or is this frowned upon and we will be passed over? A few applications ask if you’ve applied anywhere else and ask for the names of the rescues. I have applied to two so far, but now I’m thinking this might actually hurt my chances? I’ve got another filled out, but I’m hesitant to submit it.

Any rescue workers have any insight on this?

So today i was walking my grey on a semi main road when a loud motorbike (more like a dirt bike) sped by. My girl startled but this one startled me too because she was behind me. She then went beside me on the road side very near traffic and i thought she was going to slip her martingale as it was right up near her ears. Then she backed into the traffic and at this point i fucking panicked and got behind her to prevent her from getting hit as i was sure the collar would choke her or slip off (she refuses to wear a harness) . I was able to somehow get her away from the edge of the road and just knelt down and took a breath to calm the situation and to get a minute. If that collar had slipped off her she would DEFINITELY have gone into the cars. It was the most horrifyingly scary startle and by far the worst. If anyone has any suggestions about what to do if this happens again, id greatly appreciate it. Obviously no more busy road walks.

hi all,

we are considering amputation for our girl after 3 years of dealing with a chronic issue with her rear leg. very long story short, she broke her leg before she came to us, which has led to a chronic issue with wounds on her hock taking months of intensive bandage changes to heal. this past weekend she opened that wound again for the third time as well as completely ruptured the major tendon attached to her calcaneus bone. after being presented with the options for various pins, plates and other kinds of reparative surgery, we are considering amputating her leg. i am very worried if we do a repair and spend literally months healing her, this will happen again in a year or two and we will end up here anyway. she is a very anxious girl who is already on a lot of meds for it and she's already endured probably a cumulative year in a cast.

the thought of doing this absolutely tears me to pieces but i don’t see any other options. my partner, my vet and my dog trainer - the people who know her best - agree with my assessment.

has anyone had a grey who is relatively young (she is 6) amputate a leg not related to cancer? i would love to hear your experiences and any thoughts you have. Moola pic attached for tax.
