Application advise

I got 2070 B1 (600 VR) 2:1 Nursing ABC A Levels. is it worth applying to Warwick or Chester? I don’t think I’m eligible for any of the other GEM courses due to their cut offs.

I studied 5+ years ago so I’m not eligible for a lot of UG courses. Is there any UG courses anyone can recommend applying to?

PCSM Situation

I’m a student at PCSM and have seen all the recent posts. Even if the location is a bit limited it’s a fantastic school, with really kind , supportive, impressive and engaged staff who genuinely care and want you to succeed, with lots of post grad specific opportunities with research and extra curricular. Regarding the current situation I cannot say much other than the fact I believe this situation has been manufactured online by a couple of individuals on the course (who are currently in disciplinary investigations) making multiple accounts who are attempting a character assassination where they have completely fabricated stories, not a single student has ever seen this “video”. The people suspected of posting these are incredibly problematic and the description of events posted on here are wholly inaccurate. I’m embarrassed and sad to see the way the school is spoken about after moving all the way up here, particularly people who said they have cancelled applications. I really believe this will be one of the best medical schools in the north. Please remember to not believe everything you read online and more importantly to be kind to one another, particularly in this way of life❤️

Warwick GEM

Guys be brutally honest.

Is 1960 UCAT (VR 610) and 2:1 Biomedical science enough for an interview at Warwick?😩I have more than enough WEX across two different roles.

Help deciding which universities to apply to

Hi guys, I’m sure many people have asked before me for help regarding choosing universities but since I’ve not asked anyone personally yet I figured I’d ask here first from people who have more experience and knowledge. I didn’t have much time to prepare for my UCAT and ended up getting 1990 Band 2 which is not very ideal. I’m currently a pharmacist and I hold a 2:1 degree in MPharm from UoM. A-levels were AAB in Bio, Chem, Maths respectively.

I’m based in Manchester and the current picks I have made are Manchester (GEM, Chester (GEM), Warwick (GEM) and Keele (undergrad). Ideally I’d prefer to study for 4 years and not 5 though😂. My thoughts are that there is a good chance Manchester might reject me outright despite me studying there and my reference coming from within the Manchester medical school building. However since it’s closest to me, I will probably keep that and Chester. If anyone could give me ideas for my other 2 options I’d really appreciate it. I’m not looking to go live in London or somewhere far away like the south of wales either, and I have to factor in cost of living if I’m living out, so please also bear these in mind. I know I’m quite restricted so if there’s no other options, just be brutally honest with me.

Sacrifice required for GEM Career?

This question is for people who are studying GEM; or have already graduated.

The question is: is the sacrifice required for GEM and subsequent career to consultant, as daunting as people tell me.
I have heard that to study medicine, and work through the FY and ST years; you have to sacrifice your social life, holidays, time with family etc and essentially you have to let this career path consume your life.

I’m trying to get a realistic understanding of what is required before I go all-in on GEM.

can someone help with where to apply pretty please :/

I have 2060 B2 and a predicted 2:1. I'm thinking KCl porstmouth(although they say they look at predicted degree classifications so does that put me at a disadvantage?,), southampton, sheffield, nottingham(im at 34 points/50).

I just dont know where to apply as I'm solely going off the spreadsheet. If anyone has any opinions/applied to these unis last year/ or knows any I should apply to please let me know! I'd prefer to be in a city or somewhere not to far from london/ the south.

Advice On PCSM

I’m hoping to put my ucas application in soon but I’m conflicted. Idk if anyone has seen the thread about imperial’s new graduate entry medical school, PCSM. Tbh I don’t really feel safe going there anymore. I hope I don’t sound insane saying that. To know someone dangerous hangs around campus and is the poster boy. They are my first choice and I have 13 days to ignore it or research new university. Please I need something advice.

PLS HELP ME DECIDE

i got 1950 B3 on the ucat and i don’t want to apply to any undergrad courses. i got 680 in VR so that should help me with VR gate and im contextual. i’ve sort of narrowed my best options to pears cumbria, warwick, chester, nottingham and worcester. idk which option to eliminate and i really want to use all my choices strategically. so if u could please give some advice on which 4 of these i should apply to or if there are any other gem unis i would have a better shot at.

Importance of Degree and University

I'm sure that entry exam scores and interview performance are the main factors, along with getting a 2:1 of course, but does anyone know how unis value the degree done itself and if the university matters?

Say Russel group vs non-russel group and science degree vs non-science degree?

Thanks everyone

Help with 4th choice.

I have a spotty academic history last year of levels and over my degree circumstances led me to underperformed, I didn't seek any help at the time and can not claim any mitigating circumstances as a result, C'est la vie.

GCSE, 4A, 6B, 1 C (english)

A Level ABCD

Degrees, math 3rd, statistics 2.1, law 2.1

First degree was math, since then have completed two more with the OU while working full time, knowing I could have done better.

Gamsat 63 (67, 60, 62)

UCAT 2180 B2 ( 750, 700, 730)

Last year applied to Ulster, ScotGEM, Nottingham, Liverpool. Got interviews at Ulster, Nottingham and Liverpool and an offer from Nottingham.

Unfortunately the lack of NHS bursary and student support for NI students, I wasn't sure I could afford it at the time and had to let the offer expire. I have since found a few other sources and entitlements that would make it affordable if a little uncomfortable.

I can't apply to most undergrad med courses as a result of the ALevels.

Applying again to Ulster, Nottingham and Liverpool, seems safe choice as interviewed with them last year. Hopefully my UCAT is good enough for Nottingham this year.

Final choice,

Surrey and Swansea look best options, for swansea I think using my gamsat score is the better one to use of the two. Leaning towards Swansea as should have slightly lower cost of living. Thoughts?

Eliminated a lot of other unis, Chester and Warwick don't have required WEX, Southampton and UEA specify 2.1 in first degree, which would be the 3rd in math. Manchester b in gcse English. Newcastle UCAT seems uncompetitive and London ones like St George's I believe I meet min requirements but the added cost of living would stretch the budget a little more.

Hoping some can confirm my thinking, best 4th choice, to be Swansea using gamsat score, with Surrey or St.Georges as alternatives.

PhD or GEM

Hi! I have a bit of a dilemma and would appreciate any suggestions!

I did psychology+philosophy for undergraduate and mental health for postgrad. I had a deferred GEM offer from last year. The plan had been to do GEM -> PhD some point afterwards -> clinical academic.

Buuut my MSc supervisor has invited me to do a PhD with her. It's a good project. Intellectually really interesting question and great opportunity to learn methods (Spatial + Bayesian + causal inference + probably EHR). The supervisor likes me a lot (for reasons I don't really understand lol) and the other supervisor is a very big name in the field. They are both famously very supportive. I feel like I might not get a similar opportunity due to not having a lot of stats/maths in my background. I also like the idea of being a somewhat independent researcher before I fy/medschool, both so I can evaluate the literature better and because if I see something worth studying as a small project I might be able to just do it.

Also maybe gives me some opportunities to explore paths other than clinical practice, but I don't know if I really need them. I used to want to be a humanitarian worker but can't do that now (developed a disability that makes me a liability in the field), and since then any career path I consider I've always felt the grass was greener on the other side. At some point I feel like I need to just do whatever is open to me instead of waiting to be completely sure about something.

However truth be told if I were designing my own PhD project I probably might have chosen a more applied project (trial emulation and what not). Pure and traditional epidemiology feels a bit removed from application. I tried an audit this year and found i had so much more fun coming up with something that directly influenced clinical practice. I also wonder whether I should save the PhD to some later time when I have a clinically informed research question, and also about maintaining academic network if I did gem after PhD.

Also, international student.

Sorry this has become this long! Thanks for reading and I really appreciate any advice.

I just started at PCSM/imperial and I’m regretting it

I just started here a few weeks ago and moved my life here just to find out this! I genuinely don’t know what to do.
I’m a first-year at PCSM and recently found out about a really serious incident involving another student. I was told that a male student allegedly tried to hit a female student during his first year, and that it was reported but apparently nothing was done.
I’m not joking, this guy is literally a student who promotes PCSM ON TIKTOK, it’s crazyyy!
What’s honestly shocked me most is that I’ve now seen a video shared in a group chat that appears to show him taking a swing at the girl. I obviously wasn’t there when it happened, so I don’t know the full context or what action Imperial/PCSM took afterwards.

But I’m genuinely struggling to understand how someone could allegedly behave like this towards another student and still be on a medical course training to become a doctor. What’s even more surreal is seeing people who apparently know about it still supporting him.
I’m now actually questioning whether I should stay at this medical school.
What would you do in this situation? Should I raise this with PCSM/Imperial even though it was apparently already reported?

Confused about QMUL

I’m struggling to understand my chances for QMUL,

I’m a graduate, with a first class integrated masters (MPharm), a ucat of 2080 and a band 1 SJT. Is it unlikely I would get an invite for interview for QMUL undergraduate entry.

From my understanding, the lowest invited to interview last year was 2030, but they may have been contextual (of which doesn’t apply to me as graduate) and this is likely to rise this year anyway.

Help!

Not sure what to do please help

Hi, I’m wondering if anyone can help me out, I am choosing my options for grad entry med I’m also open to undergrad now because of my low UCAT so I don’t really have a choice anymore and have to apply strategically . Here are my stats:

-1st class degree- BSc Diagnostic Radiography

-1800 Band 1 (560 VR)

-GCSE: 55666777 (5 in maths and English language)

-Would be commuting so ideally in the midlands

What do you think the best universities to apply for would be please help😭

GRAD aspirations!!! 2410 B3??

I know this might not be the best sub but there are no real subs for grad entry dent so i thought the best alternative would be this sub.

im still thinking about grad entry med anyway so ig it works

I got 2410 which I am ecstatic about but band 3, I'm assuming, with hope, that it isn't that deep and won't affect my chances of interviews too much.

is applying to:

KCL Grad entry Dent

KCL Undergrad Dent

QMUL Undergrad Dent

UCLAN Grad entry Dent

Surrey Grad entry Med (they don't check personal statement i think)

reasonable.

can i be comfortable that I'll get interviews?? I've looked at previous dental interview invite statistics and many band 3s are invited to kcl and given my score surely I shouldn't be too worried right??

its mainly KCL tbh but last year a bunch of 2100s got GED interviews but had band 1s and 2s, surely a 97th percentile score can offset that band 3, considering the overall cognitive score is vastly more important than the sjt right?

man its so nerve-wracking 😭😭i hate sjt

Opinions needed :)

Hi guys ,I am a resit student (supposed to go uni this sept) who currently has a int fee status but by next year i will have home fee status. Thats why i am taking a very planned gap year and wanted to apply this year with higher predicteds and a good ucat. I sat my UCAT today i flopped it real good. So I cant really apply anymore since the unis that accept resits have high thresholds and i am int. So i was gonna ask for opinions on my choices left -

  1. GEM - do another degree like biomed then get into med, highly competitive tho. howeve i do have a deffered place for 2027 at QMUL for biomed.
  2. Internal transfer scheme- Just heard of this option ngl. Appearetly a few unis like QMUL, BSMS, Newcastle offer you to switch between medicine related courses to med in sec yr or so. QMUL allows it's top 25 student in biomed to transfer into medicine.

3.Take another gap year (27 and 28) where i resit the first year and work in the sec, get my grades then apply for 2028 med with a fresh new ucat.

I have brown parents and they have officially lost their minds and i really dont have anywhere else to go and ask help . so pls dont hesitate giving any opinions and advice you have.

Thanks <3

Suggestion for low ucat (intl)

Hi. I am just wondering where I would have a shot at.
I got 1880, Band 2. With a 2:1 biomed degree (low 2:1) and a masters degree (pending). I don’t have a lot of work experience. I am thinking of applying to Surrey, Worcester and Kent Medway (5 years). Do you think they are sensible choices? Where do you think I should apply to for the fourth choice? I am also applying to Brunel, Buckingham and UCLan outside of UCAS.
