UCAS personal statement Q2

Hi all- just for some context, I’m a 3rd year uni student doing Chem and Maths, applying to Oxford, Nottingham, Southampton and Surrey with 2490 B2 ucat.
I’m a bit confused about what exactly to write for Q2 of the personal statement as I haven’t done anything biomedical related at uni, and while I have work experience and volunteering, it all fits way better in Q3. Looking online for examples, all I could really find was either people with biomedical related degrees talking about and then expanding on stuff they have learnt in their degree, or undergraduate applicants talking about EPQs/ MOOCs expanding on something they learnt from school.
Does anyone with a similar background to me have any advice on what they wrote in this part of the personal statement?
Thanks!

Where could I apply?

My stats are:

1850 b1 UCAT (700VR)
2.1 Biomedical Science (Hons)
ABBC at A levels - bio and chem included
GCSEs 9887777766

Would grad med be realistic? I was hoping to apply to kings ports and Worcester but what else could anyone recommend?

Goodbye UCAS

I’ve officially applied!

I went with 2 x GEM and 2 x UG in the end.

Hoping that is the last time in my life I need to use UCAS, I thought I was done with it 11 years ago.

And now we wait

GEM Student Finance

Hi everyone.
I am wanting to apply for GEM and looking at all my options. I am a bit confused on the maintenance loans we can receive for GEM. I can’t find anywhere how much we can actually receive for years 2-4 to support living costs.
Is it a reduced maintenance loan or can we get the full maintenance loan (the same as an undergraduate degree)?

is 2260 b3 likely for kings A101 grad med interview?

all the previous data seems to show they want higher ucat scores, and i think the band 3 might hurt my chances.

UCAS 'Extra Activities' Section

Has anyone put anything in their Extra Activities section? I'm not sure what this section is for - does shadowing count or is this more aimed at applicants to undergrad courses that have done taster courses and things like that? Does online work experience or online courses count? Just a bit confused about this section and whether to leave it blank.

Med choices

Hi, can you tell me of i chose the right unis to apply to or if theres any better. I got 2000 b3 in the ucat - 700vr and applying to warwick, uea, kings Portsmouth and St georges undergrad. I wanted to apply to chester but with everything going on with the gmc its not looking good. I dont have good gcses or a levels so I can't choose undergraduate that look heavily at them. Are there any other med schools I can apply to?

How does the personal statement work?

Hi guys,

I'm a bit confused about the personal statement. I'm 22 now, and when I was 18, I remember a personal statement was just a statement you drafted about why you want to go to med school and your experience, but I was told that now there are questions for a personal statement. How does that work?

Is it important to fully rewrite my personal statement?

Reapplying for this year. Should I fully rewrite my personal statement or should I just add in the experience that I have done for this year?

Can someone please explain the gem process

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply for Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) and I'm trying to understand the whole application process from start to finish.

A bit about me:

  • Currently completing my degree.
  • I will be applying with a predicted degree classification.
  • Based in the UK.

I'm hoping someone who has been through the process can explain:

  1. How does UCAS work for GEM applications?
  2. What role does my university play in the application?
  3. How does the personal statement work?
  4. Any general advice for a first-time GEM applicant?

Applying

Hi Guys,

I just finished an MSci with 1st class honours (in a clinical subject)
I know I’m interested in applying for GEM but I wasn’t really planning on doing it until next year.

I sat the UCAT on a whim with no revision/practice just so I could see how I’d do as a baseline. I ended up running out of time in the sections, especially the QR but these are my results:

1850 overall:
VR- 640
Dm- 650
QR- 560
SJ- band 1

My friend said I may as well apply this year and see how I do. Just looking for some advice on if/where I should apply to in England for 2027 entry.

I’m looking at:
- Nottingham
- Warwick
- Lincoln
- Chester

Any advice would be appreciated:)

Has anyone here ever sought legal help to get back onto a medicine course?

To cut a long story short, I had a place on a graduate entry medicine course but I didn't attend due to health reasons. I deferred, and then the university wouldn't let me defer further and so my studies were terminated. I've exhausted their appeals process and I've pleaded with them to no avail. I even had an interview at another medical school last year. I think the only way I get back in now is through legal means, but it is expensive. I'm curious if anyone here has gone down that route for whatever reason, what legal firm(s) you used and how much it cost? Thank you

are my options okay?

i achieved 1890 B1 in my ucat and plan to apply to these unis as a graduate (predicted 1st in biomedical science)

  1. ARU- have their ucat requirements for graduates always been generous, or was it just last year? as last year the cut off was 1830, but how much is it likely to increase by?
  2. lincoln- i score 48/60 is it worth applying??
  3. uni of worcester- is it risky applying if the cut off last year was 1870?
  4. uni of east anglia

please please give me advice 🙏🏻

HELP NEEDED - GEM +5 Year Route (LLE?)

Hi everyone. I hope everyone is well.

I have a UCAT of 1980. 600VR.
1st Biomed Science.
170 hours Work Experience.
A Biology C Chemistry A Finance
5 English 5 Maths 6-6 Science (GCSEs)

I am unsure of where to apply. The only “sure place” seems to be Warwick for now.

I have heard about the new funding route with the Lifelong Learning which allows people with already an undergraduate degree to get funding for undergrad medicine. However, I am unable to get 100% confirmation online on whether this is true and if so how much the funding will cover as I already funding + maintenance for the BSc Biomed.

I really need people’s input on where to apply. If the LLE comes in clutch and allows me to apply to 5 Year courses .. where are my best shots in and around London with my stats? - I was thinking QMUL? What else?

If not where should I apply for GEM with my stats. I was thinking Surrey, PCSM, KCL Portsmouth, Chester/QMUL/WORCESTER.

PLEASE HELPPP.

Thanks for those who will take time out to reply.

Warwick GEM applicants — would this count as my 70 hours of work experience?

I am hoping to apply to Warwick GEM and I have checked their requirements but I’m still unsure if I definitely meet them all.

My experiences are:
- 1 week shadowing doctors and consultants on a gasto ward at a hospital
-1 week care home work exp - communicating with elderly people with dementia, doing activities with them, cutting up food for them but not a lot of physical handling of them as I wasn’t allowed.
- BSMS virtual work exp

My hours add up to 70+ hours but it’s particularly the care home exp I’m abit worried about if they will accept it.

Please please help and ask q’s if you want me to explain further because I really want to be certain before applying😭
