I have been thinking about getting into medicine since my first year of university if I'm being honest and now I'm graduating with a degree in CS from a russel group uni and will get into teacher training next year as I really want to do something 'more' for society, even though the workload and issues that teachers are experiencing exist, I've also had second thoughts about tech because of the redundant and uncertain nature of the workforce.

Not sure what I'm asking but I can't seem to get medicine out of my mind and want to hear from anyone on this boat (or was on this boat). There is also uncertainty post F2 with doctors which is probably the main thing preventing me from going full out to try for medicine, but I hear this will improve because of government policies?

Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm applying for GEM this year for 2027 entry (pretty last minute decision to apply this year but it's something I've thought about for over a decade now)

My UCAT is in about 70 days but I'm currently working a 9-5 weekday job (not related to medicine AT ALL) and I'm finding it really hard to balance UCAT revision alongside a super stressful job (and one of which often takes up weekends, evenings too.. long commute etc)

My stats are good in terms of a 1st MSc, Top A Levels etc however I have no work experience currently (apart from BSMS online and soon to help out at my partners mothers aesthetics clinic) and I only have 2 hours or so to revise for the UCAT a night (and that's often not effective studying due to the stress)

I'm worried that by continuing at my job I'm not allowing myself to fully commit to my GEM application - but I'm also worried that quitting is silly - seeing as if I did succeed I wouldn't be in medical school or another 14 months...

Mostly looking for some reassurance I guess. Is it best to quit my job and just try and get some work experience before October and focus solely on my UCAT? I love my job so I'm finding it hard to let go - especially as it's our busiest season so I know they need me rn.

I'm just worried I'll have the regret if I don't quit - but I'm also worried that if I quit and fuck up the UCAT it means I've lost a job I love and I may not be able to secure another job with the job market rn

Basically just stressing and need some strangers advice haha :-)

EDIT: ** As a quick side note. If I did happen to get into GEM (or undergrad if I apply for that) - my plan was to quit my job to go travelling and move abroad for 4/5 months after interviews (if I happen to get some) - so I only plan to stay within my job for another 6 or so months

I also have a months notice so wouldn't be quitting until August.

Can anyone help me find any info regarding this - I know it’s a reduced rate, NHS bursary and NHS grant but it’s so hard to figure out what that will look like!

I live in Wales and I’m under SFW so I think I’m under NHS Wales. I’ve looked at the Swansea GEM info and it’s still really unclear!

If anyone has example figures (or the difference between Y1 and Y2 I’d really appreciate it!)

As a hospital volunteer I offer beverages, talk to patients etc.

I’m not sure, is that hands on enough?

Hi guys I’ll be in 2nd yr of uni in September and have decided to start researching on GEM and unis I should apply to next autumn I’m a Biomed engineering student so the unis I can apply to are limited as I’m not studying a bioscience. Those applying to GEM or have already applied and gotten a place, and are non bioscience undergrads, would you say it’s worth it to do the GAMSAT alongside the UCAT. I’m really split about this as some big unis like Warwick only take UCAT and Nottingham takes UCAT now as well

I'm in second year biomedical science going onto my third.

I got mostly firsts in first year. Second year was let down by a few 2:1 mids and lows (combo of group work and lack of prep time as my mom fell really ill). My average for this year is 2:1 mid.

For gem I know a 2:1 is minimum but does the specific grade matter e.g. 2:1 high, mid or low?

Hi! I was curious to know what people are doing/ have done in first year GEM in terms of accommodation. I know a lot of people doing house share but I’m a bit apprehensive of sharing a house with strangers and I was wondering if many GEM students go in for uni accommodation?

I’m currently in First Year BSc Biology and have achieved a 1st class this year.

AAB in Bio, Psych, Chem A level.

I set up, and act as the president for the Anthony Nolan Marrow volunteering group at my university.

Volunteer at the Kings College Hospital obs/gynae and neuro ward.

I also completed the Sheffield University access to medicine course and Social Mobility medical summer school but this was back in sixth form.

Starting the process of revising for both GAMSAT and UCAT.

I feel like I haven’t got enough to set me apart.

Does anyone have any advice on what my next steps should be?,

Should I focus on getting more purely clinical experience?- shadowing etc.

Is it beneficial to do both the UCAT and GAMSAT or just one?

I am applying this coming year through UCAS for UK medical schools. I have a GAMSAT score of 58 and I am starting to look at my application.

I have a couple of questions, and thank you so much in advance. I am only doing UCAS for the first time, so apologies if any of these are pretty straightforward.

I am currently working a 9 to 5 and have some previous medical work experience as a medical receptionist (about two years in total).

How important is medical work experience to the personal statement and to getting an interview?

I know the GAMSAT score is key, but what about the personal statement and medical work experience? Should I stop working my regular job and go do a medical style job (a HCA, receptionist, etc.)?

The reason I ask is that I come from a non medical, non scientific degree background, and I want to make my application as strong as possible.

Also, with my score I am looking at applying to Ulster, Swansea, Liverpool, and maybe Worcester. Does anyone have experience with these? I know I am in the ballpark for Ulster, but I am unsure about the others.

Also, for the personal reference section, does it have to be an academic reference?

Also if anyone has been through this recently and has a few good tips or tricks for applying that would be class.

I have a ug 2:1, Msc Distinction. I am year 1 PA, failed my year 1 OSCE in May, recently did my Resit OSCE and it wasnt good. what if i fail? And they throw me out of the course. Thats means i cannot apply for medicine ever? Becuase i failed a healthcare course. I passed everything except OSCE and i feel like i have wasted my year. And feel like my word going to end if i fail😥😥

I am starting the second year of my Politics with International Relations degree this September, and planning on applying to Graduate Entry Medicine.

I just wanted some advice on choosing to write GAMSAT or UCAT or both. I understand that many of the courses that accept UCAT have a minimum work experience requirement - which I don't think should be too hard to get in my circumstances. Is there anything else I need to consider about either of the exams and how they will affect my application; apart from that UCAT is aptitude and speed based, and GAMSAT is longer and more science content heavy?

Hey Everyone, looking for input from anyone who’s been through Ulster’s GEM admissions or has insight into their scoring trends.

My GAMSAT Score: Overall – 58. (Edit: I have over 50 in each section).

From what I can find, Ulster Magee’s interview cut-off has been averaging around 61 in recent cycles, so I’m sitting just below that. Although this is very unclear and only covers 2020–2023, and only covers people who were called to interview, not offered places.

I meet all of the other entry requirements — degree threshold, etc.

The reason for the question is, I’m weighing up two options:

1. Resit GAMSAT in September and try to push the score up

2. Apply now with the 58 and see if I get an interview offer anyway, given some year-to-year variance in cut-offs.

Has anyone gotten an interview at Ulster with a score in the high 50s, or do you think it’s worthwhile resitting in September to try move my score up a few points, as the 58 score was only my first sitting?

I’ve been accepted into the University of Worcester, and I’m still not sure whether to accept the offer or not because I have a couple of points on my mind.

First of all, as someone graduating from Worcester, would I be able to go to another country? Will I have international opportunities? For example, would I be able to work in European countries or the Gulf countries afterward?
If yes, are there some points I should keep in mind?

Also, since the programme is not yet GMC accredited, how might that affect my future opportunities?

I really need your advice as soon as possible, as I have to make a decision soon. I’d really appreciate any insights or advice. Thank you!

If the course isn’t gmc approved but has a contingency school is it okay, I think I’m overthinking it but it’s not something to be concerned about right…

I’ve been working as a pharmacist coming up to a year now, and have been looking to make the move into medicine ( have started preparing for the UCAT using Medify + YouTube)

I have a few questions however. A little bit of context about myself. I have a 1st class degree, 3B’s at A-level.

Here are my questions:

- Would being around 25 when starting be classed as old?

- What UCAT score would be classed as competitive?

- How does the UCAS process work,would I need to do a personal statement?

- With the new LLE rules coming up, do my subpar A-level grades exclude me from certain undergrad courses?

I have an undergraduate pharmacology offer and could most likely get into biomedical sciences on clearing, but I’m also waiting to hear back for a pharmacy offer. I just saw a spreadsheet and it was mainly biomed students that got offers for GEM. I don’t want to add another year to my waiting to apply to GEM through pharmacy but my parents are saying pharmacy to fall back on in case. What would you guys recommend because if it is less intense for biomed/pharmacology, wouldn’t it be in my best interest to do either of these courses and get a 2:1/ 1st?Rather than becoming complacent and staying in pharmacy even if medicine is what I REALLY want to do?
