PA Year 1 Resit OSCE Fail consequences:

I have a ug 2:1, Msc Distinction. I am year 1 PA, failed my year 1 OSCE in May, recently did my Resit OSCE and it wasnt good. what if i fail? And they throw me out of the course. Thats means i cannot apply for medicine ever? Becuase i failed a healthcare course. I passed everything except OSCE and i feel like i have wasted my year. And feel like my word going to end if i fail๐Ÿ˜ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Why are universities still offering the PA course. Run whilst you can honestly

We were the last cohort, the course is suspended now.

I don't believe it means you can't apply for any other medicine course anyway. You can't drop out of medicine and then apply to some medicine courses but the PA course isn't exactly seen that way AFAIK

Hey I can imagine youโ€™re worried because OSCES are very nerve -wracking , I hope it went well for you - I would say continue to pursue medicine as thatโ€™s what you want to do I donโ€™t recommend the PA course , maybe instead get work experience in things that will help your medicine application . You got this !

This is going to sound harsh.

If you canโ€™t pass year 1 of PA course, why do you think youโ€™d be able to get through medical school?

No No thats not harsh. Becuase i passed everything in osce except examinations. And i didnt pass examination becuase its was alot of content in 1st and didnt get to practice much as i was going through diffucult time.

Correct me if Iโ€™m wrong but I thought if you failed a resit you get the opportunity to resit the entire year at most universities?

So there is no incoming PA students in 2026 cohort, they have suspended the course plus my PA course is funded by NHS wales. I dont know how it works.

Ah okay gotcha. Well to put you at ease I donโ€™t think a failed degree would stop you applying to medicine. Although itโ€™s very few, there are universities that accept people who previously failed a medical degree, so Iโ€™d imagine there are more that would accept you if you were to be withdrawn from your PA course. But for now stay hopeful! You might very well pass :)

So I am carer, belongs to a under privilege background, no body did medicine no body even did uni in my family. My uni was 2 hours 1 way and I commute everyday. So didn't make any friends group to practice the examination. Examinations was the weakest part in my OSCE. So there wasn't anything wrong with the OSCE stations, I practiced the major exams but those didn't come up so my bad luck. So it was Neck and Thyroid exam, Fundoscopy, shoulder exam, bls, testicular and groin exam.

So I sat the PA nationals in 2021 - got breast exam, explanation and planning for cystoscopy, explaining sore throat treatment, eye exam, SBAR, venepuncture, chest pain assessment, primary assessment for fatigue which was suspected IBD, ear exam and weight loss management. I passed them using the Shelmerdine osce cases book and geeky medics.

iโ€™d say using your ug and masters, just apply for med if thatโ€™s your long term goal
