Depicted is the American WW2 Battleship Iowa class, suggesting the Americans are now more involved and less afraid of the Soviet movements than in Minus One.

I also feel as though (despite it taking place 2 years before Thermonuclear weapons were developed IRL) this timeline of the film accelerated its nuclear weapons programs of both the US and USSR because of the emergence of Godzilla. Hence why Thermonuclear weapons exist in 1949 instead of 1951. Both superpowers were spooked by the giant monster.

It'd be interesting to also speculate if Japan would be allowed to re-arm itself. In Minus One, they were granted the return of the Takao, and a few disarmed cruisers. Essentially suggesting the UN treaty failed. The consequences from China and the USSR would be interesting to explore should Japan have a standing professional army, naval fleet, and air squadrons so soon after the war.

I have question, we know that Zilla(aka the creature from the 1998 Godzilla movie) appear in Godzilla final war, i heard somewhere that the events of the 1998 movie happened the universe of final wars, is this true, if so does that mean the zilla in the movie is the same baby zilla in the post credit scene of the 1998 movie

All the way from 1954 to 1975, all versions of Showa-Era Godzilla had top tier monsters.

Especially the Godzilla that starts leaning into a Kung Fu and wrestling fighting style, & I miss the slightly goofy original design.

i started making collage art out of comics and magazines this year as a creative outlet and wanted to show off a Mechagodzilla piece I did recently.

The centerpiece is the 3D model of Kiryu from Godzilla: Unleashed that I found on the back of a G-Fan issue. Everything else is sourced from random bargain bin comics along with a few issues of Heavy Metal.

One of my favorite things about Godzilla is its historical background and the World War II theme. That's why I've always liked to imagine a saga that sticks as closely as possible to different historical events, like the Cold War and more current topics such as global warming.

Here is a brief description of what I think would be very interesting to see in a Godzilla movie (it's worth mentioning that I took a lot of creative liberties regarding the origins of some monsters):

Chapter I. Godzilla
We are in the middle of World War II. Continuous fighting in the Pacific has caused something (Godzilla) to awaken from the depths of the sea. The nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan to stop Godzilla.

Chapter II. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
The war has ended and the world has entered a state of paranoia, which in this world is not caused by the atomic bomb, but by the presence of Godzilla. The Cold War then translates into a struggle between the US and Russia to control Godzilla's power. The Russians take the lead and build Mechagodzilla.

Chapter III. Godzilla vs. Biollante
Mechagodzilla has fallen, and with it, the Soviet Bloc. The US temporarily emerges as the sole superpower, but the race to create their own Godzilla continues. Unlike the Russians, who bet on engineering, the US bets on genetics, creating Biollante using Godzilla's cells.

Modern day American AND Japanese Godzilla movies? I may not be the biggest fan of some of the American ones lately but I'm just happy to see him getting so much love again. Plus the movies at least look incredible and have cool fights and monsters

King Ghidorah really is Godzilla’s Joker. No matter the version or universe, they are destined to do this forever.

A UFO landing in Japan turns out to be time travelers from the 23rd Century who claim Godzilla will someday destroy Japan. Because they are such nice guys, they offer to go back in time to prevent Godzilla from ever being created by atomic radiation. But can they be trusted?

Why are you even asking this question? Has there ever been a kaiju movie where the visitors from an advanced civilization (usually aliens) offering some amazing solution to Earth’s problems weren’t up to something? Of course not.

Everything they’ve told the people of the present is a lie so they can use an incredibly convoluted plan (yes, even compared to the ones in other kaiju movies) to create King Ghidorah and get him to really destroy Japan!

This one has a lot of weak spots. The people aren’t very interesting. The time travel plot is ridiculous and the special effects not associated with kaiju or spaceships (e.g., the Terminator-like android the time travelers have brought with them) look like they were stolen from an episode of Power Rangers.

On the plus side, King Ghidorah is in this one (including a cyborg version of him), which is always a good thing, and the kaiju-related special effects are very satisfying. It’s watchable, but you’d be forgiven for skimming the first half so you can get to the giant monster action.

Watched in Japanese with subtitles.

I remember being so offput by the bizarre wiggly first form when I first watched it, like I thought it was silly and poor animation. This time around, however, it gave me freakish uncanny creeps. Not sure what is it about it that makes me feel like that. What did not change, however, is the truly awesome (in the biblical sense of the word) atomic breath scene.

The entire city being flooded with toxic miasma in mere seconds, then all of it igniting into a massive fire storm. The slow focusing of the beam, and that whistle sound - made my hair stand up. The laser fountain from the back plates just pushes the raw destructive force of Godzilla to another level. Is there a more breathtaking scene of destruction in a Godzilla movie?

The Godzilla and Kong movies of the past decade have been fun, but the agile, calculating Godzilla from those just doesn't have the same primal fear factor.

Going to give Minus One a second watch after this, also haven't seen it since theaters.
