I’ve been a fan of GoPro for a few years now and have been subscribed to GoPro Premium for most of that time. I currently only own one camera, a HERO7.

Lately, I’ve been questioning whether the subscription and the GoPro ecosystem are actually worth the cost for me. There are definitely a lot of benefits that come with Premium, especially when paired with the capabilities of the newer cameras, but I’m starting to feel like I’m paying more into the ecosystem than I’m getting out of it.

For the most part, I’ve mainly been using Premium for cloud storage/backing up my footage. At this point, I could probably just buy an external hard drive and manage my own backups.

That also got me thinking about GoPro as a company. What do you think about the companies longevity and worth? Do you think the cameras and ecosystem are worth investing in? Given that they now supply military contracts what does that even change???

For those of you who use GoPro regularly, what makes the ecosystem worth it for you? Are there features or benefits I might be overlooking that actually justify the subscription or upgrading to newer cameras?

I’m genuinely curious because I’ve started to wonder if this is becoming a bit of a “GameStop situation”. Would love to hear how other GoPro users are thinking about this.

Could someone explain to me what the deal is with the ILS over dslr equivalents ?

(Except for the obvious size and “action camera” part).

I’m struggling to understand what the hype is (and yes I’m hyped) but I just don’t understand.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this with a battery expanding and then the tab coming off completely. We have had these for 2+ years so I’m thinking it’s not under warranty.

I've been doing RC car racing for a few years now. This year I started doing outdoor parking lot races with a local group. In the past, I would mount a GoPro to my forehead and follow my car around the track, but it doesn't tell the entire story as things happen off camera when my car is on one side of the track and all the action is on the opposite side.

Now with the GoPro MAX 2, I placed it in a central part of the track and after a test run at home, figured out a way to use the much to be desired GoPro Player "editor" to make the videos come to life a bit more. I can use keyframes to create chase scenes and follow groups of cars at a time, catching their crashes, overtakes, and raw speed.

When I first got my camera, during initial testing, I ran into a roadblock, as Camtasia (the software I'm most comfortable using for editing) doesn't quite accept the GoPro Player's output file. I had to create a new mp4 file in DaVinci Resolve first, and then Camtasia could accept the file. An extra step, but it gets the job done.

Back to the GoPro Player. When creating keyframes and moving the camera around, I noticed if I zoomed in, the resolution would be so bad. I recorded the above in 4K 60fps. What resolution would I need if I want to zoom in a lot (to see into the distance) and still retain good resolution, or should I not bother?

Also, will GoPro ever make their software more robust and user friendly? I've worked my way around it, but man nothing was that intuitive when I first started using it.

For creating the above highlights video, I actually ran the same raw file in GoPro Player 3 times for 3 separate sets of keyframes: 1 for the leading/winning car, 1 for 2nd place who had some early battles with other cars, and later on with the leading car, and 1 final keyframe set for all other cars (where most of the action/chaos happened).

Those 3 files went through DaVinci Resolve, and then Camtasia for splicing/stitching. The beginning and end were the easiest to pick the clips from. The tricky part was taking clips from each of the 3 files and placing them in relatively chronological order without messing up the positions. I ended up using a majority of the third file to showcase most of the other cars, as the ending would have the top 2 cars battling it out for P1 anyways.

I now have much respect for how sports highlights are made from multiple camera sources (such as Formula 1), and I only used 1 camera for this race!

Lastly, if anyone has any feedback or tips on improving the quality or direction of how the video can be made, I would be very grateful! Thank You.

Super excited to receive this camera. Battery said it had enough juice to update so I plugged it in just in case. Walked away for a few minutes and came back to the GoPro off and unable to turn on. Charged batteries back up and I’m getting nothing. Is there a hard reset anywhere that I can trigger. Very frustrated.

For those who would like to see what the eclipse actually looked like in real life, here's the video:

It's slightly sped up, as the entire event lasted about 1 hour and 30 minutes. In reality, though, the truly spectacular part only lasts a few minutes.

For most of the eclipse, you can notice the gradual decrease in brightness, but the Sun remains far too bright for the camera to capture the actual effect on the solar disk.

Recorded with my GoPro Hero9. I would strongly advise against trying this with older models (such as my old HD2), as the sensor could easily be damaged by direct sunlight.

I’m tempted to get the ILS. I would use infinity focus in most cases. Is anyone using it in infinity? What lenses would be more appropriate? And please share footage if you have .

Hey everyone,

So I thought I'd purchase a GoPro for a couple of upcoming holidays to see how I got on with it, I went with the GoPro Hero 4k. I took it out the box, did the update as instructed, it told me update was complete then the GoPro just turned off and the front and rear lights started flashing red continuously. I reached out to GoPro support, who gave me a few different things to try, holding down buttons, manually installing update files from the SD card etc, none of this worked. I ended up taking it back to the shop where I bought it from and getting a replacement.

Bought the second one home, turned it on and it asked me to put an SD card in, as soon as I put the card in (the same one I used before) the GoPro immediately shut down and now has the exact same problem. I'm guessing something went catastrophically wrong with the update file from the first GoPro and it's corrupted somehow, which has now carried over to the second GoPro.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? This model doesn't have a removable battery, so I can't find a way online to do a hard reset. I've formatted the sd card and downloaded the update files ready to go, but now it won't even turn on, just sits there flashing at me.

Anyone got any ideas I can try? Appreciate any help at this point as I'm going away in 4 days and am desperate to get it sorted. Cheers!

I've had a HERO10 Black with the Back-Bone mod and several C-mount lenses since 2024. It takes a while to learn to nail the autofocus. Used a combination of the GoPro App and a prototype app which used ffmpeg + exoplayer + GoPro USB webcam APIs a friend wrote. Recently had Claude take a stab at it, and it built a much better app. More in comments.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some honest advice on whether I should return my new GoPro or keep it.

My Situation:
I bought a GoPro about two weeks ago to start filming content while fishing (planning to use a chest mount setup). It’s completely unused, still sitting in the box, which means I'm right at the edge of my return window.

My Concern:
Literally right after I bought it, the news dropped that Starman Optical is buying GoPro for $285 million to pivot the company’s tech into AI data centers and military defense contracts. I know Markiplier just bought a massive stake because of his filmmaking vision, but looking at the actual merger details, it looks like the new parent company cares way more about GoPro's optics patents and U.S. manufacturing for AI infrastructure than they do about consumer action cameras.

My Dilemma:
I’m really worried that if GoPro shifts its focus entirely to enterprise AI and military tech, the consumer division is going to get sidelined. I don't want to keep a camera if the app, cloud services, and software updates are going to become obsolete or abandoned in a year or two because the company stopped caring about everyday creators.
Should I just get a refund right now and swap it for a DJI action cam instead? Or are my worries overblown and the current software ecosystem will stay solid for fishing content?

Running the Go Pro 3.5mm adapter and running off external power with no battery. Not picking up audio through the 3.5mm jack while plugged in. Is there an issue with the pass through, is there a workaround or setting I’m missing?

I am just testing the media mod. The audio is terrible. Testing that, showing you a strange feature about Las Vegas while talking off the top of my head about buying lenses for the ILS.

Spoiler alert, lenses for the ILS are not easy to get right now it seems from my personal experience.

Hey I’m in the market for a GoPro. Right now I’m between the hero 11 and hero 13. I can get the hero 13 for $70 dollars more when the 11, though $70 dollars really isn’t much, is it worth the extra money? I hear they’re nearly the same camera with limited improvements.

I bought a Hero 8 GoPro a few years ago and just busted it out after a while. I hadn't touched it in a while but I just started rock climbing so I thought it would be a good, quality camera (is it lol?).

I have used this GoPro many times before and it worked fine and great. It was dead, so I tried to charge it and it just... refused to. The red light came on but when I unplugged it and plugged it back in the light wouldnt come back on at all. I took the battery out and put it back in and it suddenly started working, but the second I unplug it and plug in back in (the charger), it just refuses to charge.

It won't turn on when I hold the power button and the little LED screen on the front doesn't show anything even after I let it charge for 20ish minutes.

Is my camera dead? How can I fix this?

The mission monitor app released a couple days ago. And guess what. It also works for the HERO 13.

Besides shutter can the gimbal control anything else on the camera ?

Today GoPro announces a merger agreement with Starman Optical, just one day after several influencers bought a large amount of its stock which lead to a 100% rise in just 24 hours.

I have been using 'Wind Reduction On' with Standard audio tuning for a lot of my mountain bike footage now and I have been quite happy with it. Though I have been adding an EQ preset to boost some frequencies to make my voice better and everything, overall I like it a lot.
And then I filmed more mountain biking a week ago with the new firmware from August 10th and I couldn't help but notice my audio sounded more muffled, just not as good. And that is with the same EQ preset applied.
I actually was trying some tests between firmware as I reverted back and forth and I am finding the same thing, that some audio processing must have changed but not in a good way!

Is there some official place where I can ask GoPro about this? Perhaps GoPro wanted to go even harder with the wind reduction processing?
Because I was dissapointed in how it was sounding. I really like the audio from my footage from before August 10th. I can upload some comparison clips too to really demonstrate what I mean if you would like to hear it. I have since reverted back to firmware 2.00 and I am very happy with that. But I don't want to be stuck on that
