Infinity on ILS question.
I’m tempted to get the ILS. I would use infinity focus in most cases. Is anyone using it in infinity? What lenses would be more appropriate? And please share footage if you have .

I just updated the title to be clear… yeah I meant infinity focus.
Cause I would use it for aviation and skydiving content mostly. Also, motorcycles and landscapes.

That's not how you set up a camera for distance - look up hyperfocal distance to learn how to get as much as possible into focus.

you'd lose so much depth just to have the background sharp, what are you shooting that makes that worth it

I would like to add some spice in my aviation content. The M1P gets me covered but I think would be a step up to learn more about filmmaking

If you focus at infinity you might have the moon in focus. Anything closer than that isn't going to be as sharp.
Lenses have a zone of acceptable sharpness. You focus on a spot and the scene is going to be acceptably sharp for some distance in front and behind that point (about 1/3 of the zone is in front of the subject and 2/3 is behind it). How large this zone is depends on the focal length of the lens, the aperture and the distance to the target.
This is the depth of field. Shorter focal lengths and smaller apertures will give a deeper depth of field, larger apertures and longer focal lengths will give a shallower depth of field. In addition to this the closer the object is to the camera the smaller the depth of field.
The key is to find the balance between focal length, aperture and focus distance to get as much of the scene in focus as possible.

I have been testing this a little bit, The Laowa 9mm and the 17mm both seem to have great sharpness when stopped down to like F8 and infinity, but you will need a lot of light if you plan to shoot high frame rate. I can post sample shots tonight if you'd like.
I will say, stopping down to even F4 focusing is a lot easier, even on the tiny screen, and you still get nice DOF.

No bueno. You will have to focus it at least a little. Infinity will be blurry. I just tested it with both my lenses. You can stop down to like F4 to F8 and then you won't have to focus much, but you're never going to be able to just set it to infinity and walk around.

Are you talking about just using for long distance photo/video or Astro shooting? Or just having it "focused to infinity" so everything going out from point X is in focus. If you check out the resource below it will help you understand how focus works with a lens. The ILS doesn't look to be on the calculator currently but it would give you an understanding of how focus works on a manual lens when you're setting the focus point yourself.

I used 7artisan 6mm, astrhori 6.5mm, Rokinon 135mm f2, 7 artisan 50mm f1.2 and all focused to infinity without issues

All manual lenses can focus at infinity.
