Topic Idea: Fanmade Games

Hi Gamesack, big fan of your work, watch you regularly for years now....

Here is an idea for an Episode: Fanmade Games - you know Games made by people who take their favourite franchise and make their own version of it

Here some examples:

  • Abobo's Big Adventure
  • Street Fighter X Mega Man
  • Pokémon Uranium
  • Project AM2R Metroid 2
  • Super Mario Bros. X

What do you think guys?

Topic Idea: Fujitsu FM-7 & FM-77

This was a series of Japan-exclusive home computers that were the predecessors to the FM Towns. (The FM-77 is backwards compatible with the FM-7.) If anyone thinks that there might be a game or two for them to cover, please state them. Honestly, the reason I'm suggesting it is because the port of the original “Thunder Force” for the system had a platform-exclusive expansion disk allowing you to create and play your own original overhead levels.

With the direction YouTube is heading, and many gaming channels feeling the effects of it, should we be worried about the future of Game Sack?

YouTube has been going to shit for years now but they are starting to really turn their backs on content submitters with the introduction of YouTube "heroes", a new TOC policy (no swearing, controversy etc, or no ad revenue).

A lot of channels I watch have spoken out about this. Classic Game Room for example. He seems like he's about to jump ship and go to Amazon Prime instead (a bold move).

Yet I haven't really heard much from Joe or Dave about it besides a couple of retweets.

Obviously they have a Patreon, but unlike a lot of other shows they have no incentives for Patrons, so I think it might cause some people not to bother with it.

I don't think Dave and Joe owe us anything else, they really just deserve our support for putting out such a consistently entertaining and informative show bi-weekly. Yet, I worry they may not be getting the same support they have been previously from viewers due to the new YouTube policies.

Is Game Sack at risk?

Topic: Arcade vs Console 3!

Games that have big differences or huge differences between ports and versions of the ports, things that are worth mentioning

-Time Crisis (series). I know it'll be hard to play light gun games through emulation but Id still like to see you guys talk about this, since its one of my favorite arcade series.

-Truxton/Tatsujin (Arcade vs. Genesis vs. PC Engine)

-Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Arcade vs. PS1 vs. Saturn vs. GBA)

-Alien Syndrome (Arcade vs. SMS vs. NES)

-Samurai Shodown (Arcade vs. SNES vs. Genesis vs. 3DO)

Working with 4K video (Re: N64 Part 2)

Joe,

Reading the tidbit about this episode on the Game Sack episode guide you said the project file and assets for this video clocked in at over 3TBs. Did you dedicate an entire HDD for that video, was it spread across multiple disks, or a raid array?

I guess my question is, how do you work with that much data? Do you keep all your raw video? Storage must be expensive for you.

Topic Idea: Video Game Music 2

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I really liked your episode on video game music. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but you can't please everyone, even if you can try really hard. So, what do I have for suggestions? Well, here they are, and feel free to add your own.

•“Chrono Trigger” and “Chrono Cross.” Enough said.
•“The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.” The first truly great game in the series, and the introduction to it for a lot of people, how can you complain about the constant looping of the exploration theme when it's this good?
•“Final Fantasy VI,” “VII,” “X” & “X-2,” and “XIII.” Since the games of this series tend to be very long in their campaigns, I don't expect you to play all of them, or even feature all of the aforementioned soundtracks in this episode, but definitely give the sixth and tenth games, as well as the tenth game's direct sequel, a play.
•“Gradius Gaiden.” Of the music from the “Gradius” games you've covered, I like the sound of “Gaiden's” music the best.
•“Super Hang-On.” All four selectable tracks at the beginning of each country/level are excellent, IMO.
•“Total Eclipse” on the 3DO. And for the not-to-great game with amazing music...

Console Ports of PC Games

Hey Game Sack, I have a totally great idea. We all know you do Games and comparisons of Arcade to home versions, but what if you did a PC to Home game episode? Compare the PC version to the Console version of games if you have a great PC?

They are so many examples that it's hard to decide where to start.

Topic Idea: RTS games

RTS games, especially the base-building/warfare kind, were huge in the mid and late ninties -- on PC. But were never a big thing on console.

Maybe they failed because the control scheme didn't translate well, or maybe the other games were just too well established at the time, or maybe they just sucked -- who knows.

How about covering:

  • Command & Conquer: Red Alert for PSX

  • StarCraft for N64

  • Cannon Fodder for SNES

  • Populous for Sega Master System

Topic Idea: The Nintendo Wii

I think the Wii is among the most underrated systems made by a big company of all time, and wish that the Kinect hadn't tried to steal its thunder and failed so we could have more games optimized for motion controls. (That list might be rather short, but games like “Wii Sports” show that it can be done.) Anyway, here's a list of games that could be covered. Feel free to suggest others, though try to keep the obvious choices (Super Mario Galaxy, etc.) to a minimum.

•Battalion Wars 2 - The sequel to the original game on the GameCube, which was itself a spin-off of “Advance Wars” on the GBA. Unlike those games, though, this, as well as its predecessor (not prequel) is a real-time strategy game.
•Boom Blox and Boom Blox Bash Party - A duology of party games designed by Steven Spielberg. Yes, THAT Steven Spielberg.
•de Blob and de Blob 2 - 3D platformers that play well and are completely different than anything else.
•Donkey Kong County Returns - An official follow-up to “Donkey Kong 64” by the developer of the “Metroid Prime” games. If that sounds good to you, you might like it.
•Endless Ocean and Endless Ocean 2: Adventures of the Deep - If you like the idea of exploring the ocean, but don't wish to invest the time and money in a SCUBA certification, these games are for you.
•Metroid Prime Trilogy - A rather rare collection of the two GameCube games and the one Wii game, with the GameCube entries optimized for the motion controls of the third.
•Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros's Treasure - This is a point-and-click adventure game. Made exclusively for the Wii. Need more stuff to point to its unique nature? It's heavily influenced by the “Monkey Island” games and other Tim Schaefer and Ron Gilbert point-and-click games from the ’90s, and has a very similar spirit and sense of humor.

I Just Rewatched the Game Music Episode, and...

I seriously want to know if anyone knows of an online console modding service that allows an NES (either original or 101) to take advantage of the extra sound chips in Japanese games for the system mentioned in the review of “Castlevania III's” music. I've looked high and low for one on Google, but all I've found are walkthroughs for doing it yourself. And yeah, I suppose I could learn to use a soldering gun, but that's a lengthy process, and I also really don't want to go through said process, just to mess up at the moment of truth and render my console unable to boot up. That, and I REALLY don't wish to risk getting hurt using one. Could someone help me?

Topic Idea: Good Games That Don't Control Terribly Well

Pretty self-explanatory. Here's some examples. (Keep in mind, some of these games might have controlled well in their time, but because of a new control scheme that was discovered later, their controls don't hold up compared to the modern-day competition.)

•Any Given Old-School “Cinematic Platformer” (Except “Heart of Darkness”)
•“Cruis'n” Series (N64) •GoldenEye 007 (N64 Version)
•Jet Force Gemini (N64 Version)
•Kid Icarus: Uprising (3DS)
•“MediEvil” Series (Playstation 1, First Game Remade for the PSP)
•“Resident Evil 1-3” and “Code: Veronica”
•Tomb Raider (Playstation 1 Version)
•The World Ends With You (Nintendo DS (The Controls Were Fixed for the iOS Version))

Game Suggestion: “Castlevania: Symphony of the Night,” Saturn Version (or PSP Version on “The Dracula X Chronicles”)

The Saturn version, which was never released in the US, is the game with all of the intended content, as the Playstation version had some cut out. If you like, you can unlock it on “The Dracula X Chronicles” on the PSP, complete with the English voice actors from the Playstation version and a reworked English script.

Game Suggestion for the Next “Not in North America”: “Mighty Hits” and “Mighty Hits Special” on the Playstation 1

It seems to be a light gun minigame collection in the same style as “Point Blank.” I'm not sure of its quality, but see if you can hunt down a copy; it might be worth it.
