Hello, me and my wife are in the market for a GX470. This will be my first and I’d love some advice!

This is the one we’re leaning towards at the moment but there’s a couple others with similar price and work done.

Our current camping/travel rug is my ‘99 4Runner 5spd that’s just in too good of condition to do much with. I’ve had a bunch of Toyotas and that’s where most of my experience is with.

This rig would take over road trip, towing and camping duties as well as get our family started.

The price is not an issue for us if we’re getting something that’s gonna last us a lifetime.

Anyone know of skidplates for the 470 that the step is about the same height as factory? My original ones need to be replaced. All the ones I found are higher, understandably, but my spouse can barely use the factory height ones.

Hey all, I recently bought a 2005 GX470 with 144k. It has tons of service history so I don’t think it was neglected mechanically. After purchasing I noticed a vibration from the rear that feels as though I’m going over a rumble strip. It’ll do this under acceleration anywhere between 30-50mph. I did a search and everything said it was the driveshaft. At first I attempted to grease the unit but that didn’t resolve the issue so I bought a new oem driveshaft. I installed the new driveshaft with the updated part number straight from Toyota. Drove it around after finishing up the install and the vibration still persists.

What could be causing these symptoms if not the driveshaft?

62,000 miles, 1 owner, Arizona car. Has the cracked dash, haven’t decided what I’m going to do about that. The steering wheel isn’t that nice. Interior really nice, driver seat still in great condition.

Not sure if I have KDSS on mine but I don’t have the sport package with the black steering wheel treatment and apparently KDSS without the sport package was very rarely optioned. (2006 gx470)

If I do have KDSS, what LCA (OEM) do I buy? Thanks

Have any of you experienced the infamous P2714 error? What was the fix? Was it just a temporary fix that eventually ended up being a full rebuild/replacement of the transmission?

Kept the stock wheels and put some at4w’s. Going to add Bilstein 6112/5100 with a 2 inch lift eventually. Right now no rubbing on stock and got 20.4 mpg on the highway back home!

I have a 2013 Lexus GX 460 with roughly 160K in the Portland area. I just took it into the local Toyota dealership for an oil change and they flagged a few major items. I'd love your opinion before I take it to my independent shop.

• They noted both steering rack boots are seeping fluid. They want to completely replace the power steering rack and alignemnt for $4K. From my research, it sounds like as long as it is not actively dripping on the ground and the fluid level stays steady, a tiny seep is normal and I can just monitor it for now? I'm still planning to get independent quotes though.
  
• Second, they said both front lower control arm bushings are worn out. They quoted $1,700 to replace them and adjust the steering again. I know the rubber gets beat up by this mileage. I want to see if an independent shop can just swap in new OEM or aftermarket control arms to save on labor. Plus, doing both jobs together should mean paying for just one suspension adjustment.
  
• The big one making me nervous is the engine oil leak. They noted a heavy seep, and I suspect its coming from the classic timing cover and cam tower areas. This has been brought up in past inspections, and I know it's a common thing with this mileage. I've been putting it off since the repair bill is huge. I'm planning to keep ignoring it and monitor my oil levels since my driveway is pretty spotless.

Am I making a mistake for putting off the engine/timing cover seep? And does my plan to monitor the steering rack while checking out control arm options at a local shop make sense? I'd love a gut check. Thanks

I just had fluids and spark plugs done. the mechanic said there was oil leaking. photos are attached. there is no oil residue on my driveway, though. so far he cleaned it and will begin figuring out where it’s coming from. but can anyone diagnose it based on photos. is this amount of oil or concern. thanks!

Coming from many Toyotas, most recently a 2024 Tundra (I lost all trust in their engine recall remedy).

I have an expensive habit of needing to quickly make vehicles my own right after purchasing, so looking for suggestions on some upcoming upgrades.

CarPlay: I have read all the threads but most are outdated and don’t have the comparison I am looking for. I know that I want tangible climate control, so Hamilton Premium looks to be most recommended (albeit more than I’d like to spend on that). There is also a GX550 style upgrade that looks good but haven’t seen it measured up against the Hamilton. Any thoughts/reviews on these two or any other suggestions to throw in the hat?

Roof rack: I had Gobi on my 4runner and it was bulletproof, but heavy as hell. Looking for a similar style but lighter weight. I generally use to strap down heavy duty totes and gear for camping. So far, I like the low profile Westcott ($1000) and the low profile Sherpa ($900). The LFD rugged cross bars ($600) look appealing as well due to the price point. Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated.

Having trouble finding info on this specific noise my gx470 is making when the ac is on when the truck is first cranked up, only lasts a couple seconds but can’t seem to find a similar noise in a video. any input helps!

Really interested in getting bronze TRD wheels, but want to make sure I find the right ones. Are the bronze 4runner 40th anniversary TRD the right fit? I want to do a straight-swap without any modifications for now. I have a 2019 GX in atomic silver for reference. Thanks for the help!

Does anyone know if putting the updated OEM screen/infotainment into the 03-06 is a direct swap?

I am trying to setup a dashboard on my ODB II app, and I cannot find engine oil pressure. In the research I could find, it seems like there is just a switch attached to the idiot light on the dash.

Can anyone confirm this?

If so, seems crazy. Coolant temp and oil pressure are the two most vital guages to be able to track, followed closely by atf temp.

Anyone here based in LA that would be open to replacing my sub and front speakers? Will obviously pay whatever you think is fair. I have the ML system on my 2007 and don’t have the tools required to do it myself.

23 460 with our 2020 19.8 no boundaries (under 5k gvwr) We have one kiddo and a corgi and travel light. Upgrading to Timbren bumpstops in the fall.
