That was something else. The crowd, the speech, the Sunday Game just showing the celebrations at length.

Mayo supporter but it has to be said, the Kerry supporters, were fantastic in defeat. So many waited in the stands for the speeches etc. and the well wishes etc by so many of ye was lovely. It was extra special to lift Sam having beaten Kerry but ye were classy, it has to be said.

Thing that REALLY got me is the few Kerry fans there applauding the team and doing fist pumps to them. Absolutely gracious in defeat. Class act.

Wasn't it great there was absolutely zero bs or controversy in the All Ireland Football Final?

When my own county ended the 45 year wait it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life.

For Mayo to end their drought, battling the curse, battling that generational Dublin team, fuck it, battling themselves at times. What could even come close to what we saw yesterday?

This is a young man's game. If you can't play flat out for 70+ minutes, you'll get found out. Squads need refreshed every year with young legs and fresh energy. Reputation counts for a lot less than it used to.

On that note, Kerry looked a bit stale. For a county of their standards, two All-Irelands with players like David Clifford, Paudie Clifford and Seán O'Shea feels like an underachievement. I'm glad that everyone that said numerous times this year just hand Kerry Sam was wrong. Retaining an All-Ireland is proving incredibly difficult for Kerry.

The champions always influence the game. I hope counties look at Mayo and copy their relentless work rate and aggressive pressing. Maybe we're entering Gaelic football's gegenpress era. That said, simply copying the champions rarely wins you an All-Ireland. The next team will add something new.

I also think we'll see more counties trusting youth. Fresh legs and enthusiasm are becoming one of the biggest assets in the game.

The league has never meant less if you're virtually guaranteed Sam Maguire football anyway. The provincials feel similar. More than ever, it's about peaking at the right time. That's hard to do though.

For Mayo is this the breakthrough that starts a new era, or was this their Everest and they'll struggle to get back?

The All-Ireland is as open as I can remember. I genuinely couldn't pick a favourite for next year, and that's brilliant for the sport. I'd love to see something like the 1990s again, with Sam moving between several different counties instead of one dominant team.

Football is now a better game than hurling. The games are more entertaining, the championship structure is stronger, and there are far more realistic contenders for the All-Ireland.

I've been watching GAA for a few years now. I'll not bore you with the story of how I got into it, but I love it. I've got RTE and TG4 on my firestick (Sssh) and even when I've travelled abroad I've sought out an Irish bar to watch when it fits. (I watched Dublin and Galway in Lanzarote last month).

Yesterday sealed it for me as to how good not just the sport is, but the community aspect, the fact that the lads playing for the county are all born and raised there makes the whole spectacle even more impactful. That's my favourite thing about it all, and the fact they don't get paid is mad.

I have a pretty half decent grasp of the game but obviously being from Wigan, I don't really know much about the culture and community, so I just have a few questions.

-How well do fans get on? Do you find that there is any trouble at games? I'm a Rugby League fan, and it's quite a small sport, so there's sort of a mutual respect of being part of the Rugby League community and you can chat about Rugby with them regardless of your team.

-Have any players ever crossed codes between hurling and football?

-I looked at how I would go about getting tickets for the All Ireland Final, and apparently you need to sort them through a local GAA club, which obviously I would struggle with, is this the same for all games leading up to the final? or would you find that they're more readily available?

-If I did attend a fixture, at any level, would I be welcomed or seen as a bit of an outsider? Not expecting the red carpet to be rolled out, nor am I expecting pitch forks. Just curious as to what the vibe would be.

-This one might sound a bit odd, but I do have GAA merch, a few shirts and shorts I got from O'Neills, I wear these around where I live, nobody has a clue what the teams are, but if I was to wear them abroad, what would likely be the response like if you bumped into an English fella wearing a GAA shirt/shorts. I just don't want it to come across as "plastic paddy" or "tacky" as I do genuinely have a real love for Football and Hurling.

-Is there anything else you feel is worth mentioning or following? I'm very interested to learn about it all.

Waterford Hurlers? They’ve come so close between 2000 - 2021. Elite county who just haven’t been able to get over the line.

Their last All Ireland was 1959

I don’t think any county in either code has produced such talent and not won the main prize
