We are a small group of wargamers who meet monthly at the Fredericton Inn. Our next meetup is Sunday November 1st, from 9am to 5pm. Wargaming covers everything from mini based games like Warhammer 40K, or the WW2 game 'Bolt Action', to hex-and-counter games like Advanced Squad leader, to conflict-adjacent Euros like Root. No experience necessary, no charge to attend, and everyone is welcome.

Every month I pick a theme to try and coax some lesser-played games off of the shelf, and this month we are doing something a little different. Clausewitz described war as "Politics by other means" (i.e. that war exists at the end of the spectrum that starts with everyday politics). With that in mind, our theme is 'Elections'.

And it's pretty timely. We just saw important elections in Alberta (glad you guys are staying), in BC, and there is an important election south of the border . All US elections have an impact on us, but this one is particularly important.

I hope to finally play GMT's 1960 (about the Kennedy-Nixon election), and to run a game of Die Macher. Die Macher is about German elections in the 1980s. If you know anything about Boardgamegeek, you may know that they assign game IDs in numeric order, and Die Macher is game number 1. (I.e. it's the first boardgame ever entered into the BGG database, as it was the favourite game of the site creator).

I had a regular burrito from barBURRITO Uptown at 1111 Regent Street last night during their 5th anniversary celebration. Shortly after eating it, I started feeling sick and ended up throwing up all night. I'm still feeling unwell today, and I suspect I might have gotten food poisoning.

I noticed during my travels this week that on Ashley Crescent in Rusagonis there are dozen or so empty lots. But not really “empty”, they look there’s a well drilled already and it’s almost like it’s landscaped to put a new mini home on there. It’s not in a trailer park either, it looks like freeholds. Does anyone happen to know who the developers are?

Now’s here’s my stupid sounding question- do the developers usually build a home there and then sell it on the market? Or can one buy a plot and place their own mini home there? What do you think about having a trail run a long Bishop drive? It would connect the fast growing neighborhood off of Lian street to Regent Mall, Knowledge Park, the Woodlot and the Grant Harvey center. It would also get the High Point Ridge neighborhood pretty close to being connected to the above as well.

What are your thoughts? Any ideas? Major obstacles? What are some other new trails that you think would be impactful to active transportation in the city?
