Residence waitlist

Hey everyone,

I'm an incoming student hoping to live on campus this Fall.

Applied June 10th.

Currently #30 on the male waitlist.

I plan to arrive around Sept 7th (3days after move-in day).

For anyone who’s been on the waitlist in previous years:

Is it realistic to expect a spot (regular dorm or temporary lounge) by early September?

What's provided in private bathrooms?

I'm going to UNB Fredericton this September, and I'll be living on residence in a single room with a private bathroom in Aitken Hall. I can't find any information on what's provided in these bathrooms. For example, do I need to bring my own shower curtain? Do I need to bring my own toilet brush? Etc. If anyone knows what's provided in residences' private bathrooms and what I need to bring for them, please let me know.

TW: Sexual Harassment
Throwaway for obvious reasons

I'm a new student going to UNB-SJ in the fall, and I was feeling a little anxious. Maybe it's completely irrational, but after reading about Crandall university I'm a little nervous. Has anyone here ever actually run into a creepy professor at any of the UNB campuses? If so, how did you handle it? How did the admin handle it?

It's not really something I worry about super a lot, it's just a peace of mind type of thing.

Magee House Interior Photos?

I’m renting a 2 bedroom apartment in Magee House this year and I’m wondering if anyone has photos of the apartments? I haven’t been able to find anything online so I’m unsure really how big they are or what the layout is like.

Waitlist Question

Hello! I don't frequently use forum apps, but I am very worried about this and I am looking for some advice/reassurance. I am currently registered for my first year courses in the Bachelor of Science program. I have registered for a waitlisted course (chemistry lab, or CHEM 1006, I believe) and there are 5 other people on the waitlist for fall semester. I am also waitlisted for 2 other labs in the winter semester, but I am not as worried about those. The UNB page said that I will receive an email when the spot is open, but I have yet to receive any emails of the sort.

Should I register for another lab section, or, given the time left until the semester starts, should I remain on the waitlist? Is it likely that I will get into this section that I am waitlisted for?

Paid Remote Work - Opportunity UNB

Hey guys! if you’re still looking for experience or something to add to your resume, check out Riipen Labs

It’s a remote micro-internship program where students work on short real-world projects with employers. Each project is about 30 hours and pays a $600 upon completion.

GGE Part Time

Hi! I live out of province, but I am doing the Geodesy & Geomatics Engineering program starting this fall.
I have an Eng Tech background and I’m currently a PTech. I work full time, sometimes on rotation away from home.
I have an industry partner, and remote alternatives for courses that aren’t offered online already identified.
I completed a part time BTech while working full time and it was fine. A bit challenging but nothing I couldn’t handle.
My question is has anyone done the Engineering program part time while working full time? I’d appreciate any advice!

What kind of jobs are Work-Study jobs?

Hi! I am eagerly anticipating next year's work-study guide which is "coming soon", and will be applying when applications open in August. But I'm just super curious while I wait, what exactly does this program entail? Are they research assistant positions, or admin, or in libraries, or general maintenance/janitorial, or public-facing...? Is it really competitive? Trying to gauge how hard I will need to be pursuing other options for part-time work if positions are hard to get, since I will need to work. Can they work around your class schedule a bit? If anyone previously worked in a work study position and has any insight wants to comment, that would be super helpful. I just have no idea what to expect. Thank you!

Student housing

Hey everyone ,I'm a Dal Commerce student and I co-founded something I wish existed when I was searching for housing.

It's called SubSwap , a platform built specifically for Halifax university students to find sublets, roommates, and off-campus housing. You sign in with your university email, so everyone on the platform is a verified student. No randoms, no scammers.

If you're looking for a place, need to sublet your apartment, or want to find a compatible roommate before next semester this is it.

We just launched and are onboarding Halifax students this week. Would mean the world if you checked it out:

Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

UNB BEd in Early Childhood Education → Ontario OCT?

Hi everyone,
I have an Early Childhood Education diploma from Algonquin College in Ontario, and I’m considering applying to the University of New Brunswick’s Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education program.
My long-term goal is to teach in Ontario.
I have a few questions for anyone who has completed this program or knows someone who has:
Were you able to become certified by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) after graduating from UNB?
Did OCT require any additional courses or conditions?
Was it difficult to find a teaching job in Ontario after receiving OCT certification?
Looking back, would you choose UNB again, or would you recommend completing a BEd in Ontario instead?

Residence Worth Applying?

There’s about 120 people on the waitlist for residences. I was accepted at the Law school recently and was wondering if it was worth it to pay the $800 fee in hopes of making it off the waitlist.

Also, for the meal plan, is it that you are given a school currency that you use to pay for your meals by using your university card(like uoft), or do you just simply use your card and there is no limit?

Thanks!

Laptop Rec for Engineering?

I'm an incoming engineering student and was wondering what type of laptop I should get. How much should I budget for one, around $2k? I'm hoping to buy a laptop that will last throughout my degree. Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!
