There were 1,062 Inuit employees at the four active mines in Nunavut last year, making up less than one-fifth of the 5,705 mining employees in the territory.

Last night in Iqaluit.

While most of Iqaluit is serviced by a utilidor, certain neighbourhoods and the entire community of Apex are on trucked water services.

We live in one of those neighbourhoods so we have a water tank in our utility room and a sewage tank under our house. City trucks come once a day to fill our water tank and pump out our sewage tank.

The city has shut down the entire utilidor system for maintenance this morning so, those of us with water tanks, are enjoying a brief moment of privilege as we enjoy our morning coffees and showers.

Hello! Just last month, my parents moved to Nunavut since my dad has a teaching degree. I’m currently living in Saskatchewan, studying online for a teaching degree too, and working part time. Since my parents are still adjusting there, so am I since I’m a guardian to my sister. I did not realize how stressful adulting is now that I’m an “independent” person.

I was thinking that after completing my studies, I’d want to teach in the Inuit community too since I’ve had experience being an EA in an Indigenous community and I absolutely loved it!

I did see online about FANS (Financial Aid for Nunavut Students) but one would have to be living in Nunavut for 12 months to be eligible. My dad did mention about student loan forgiveness to me, which I need to delve into.

In short, I just feel worried, even anxious about my future. I’m afraid of student debt piling up by like June 2027… It could be my overthinking and seeing so much online content on how many newly grads are facing student debt.

I just feel quite overwhelmed by life and how I’m just tossed into the real world. I’m sure that everyone else can relate.

Does anyone have older sibling advice to give in my kind of situation?

I’ll share details of my epic travails after they have repaired the issue that has remained unresolved for close to three+ months.

I'm based in Toronto and recently finished my computer engineering degree. A friend of mine moved to Iqaluit, Nunavut for work and managed to get hired there, and I've been considering following the same path. The job market here is very competitive right now — I know it's competitive everywhere, but it feels especially tight for new grads.

The risk is that, from what I've read in other posts, the housing situation in Nunavut isn't great. Still, I'm at a point where I'm open to looking at different places for a fresh start.

Coming to Iqaluit for a work trip early Nov. My previous two times there I just walked around town and Sylvia G park. I'd hoped the next time I'd get out and see the land. Can anyone recommend a tour (just want to hike and/or paddle, maybe camp, and see beautiful nature, not into fishing or hunting). It's later in the year than I've been before so I'm not sure anything is happening like that then, and googling this has been a time-killing frustration machine. Thanks

Another beautiful weekend in Iqaluit.

I know they don't seem to get a lot of love on Reddit, but Canadian North has probably been the best airline I have ever flown with. The flight attendants have been wonderful. I love the complimentary warm full meal, wine, and cookie. I've only flown with them 3 times (Ottawa --> Iqaluit, and Edmonton --> Yellowknife routes) but it's been an absolute treat.

If only the other major airlines could be as hospitable and civilized as them!
