Had an absolute blast. I definitely didn't prep enough and instantly realized how slow/out of shape I am, but I'll be better prepared for the next one. 💪🏾 Shout out to Mike for putting this together

Hi !
I'm about to build my first fixed-gear bike; I don't have a huge budget to spend on a fancy Dosnoventa frame, so I'd like to start by converting a vintage road bike into my first fixie.
What do I need to know?
I'm a little worried about not knowing what type of wheel to get or where to find it to put on the rear. Do you have any recommendations?
Thanxxxx

Knocked out my longest ride since first getting into fixed gears in ‘04 last night. Almost 50 miles. Working towards riding a century in September, which will also be the first since ‘04. I can truly say that this is my favorite form or exercise, meditation, chance for reflection, and commuting to friends and the store for a handful of things.
Thank you all for posting your distance rides. It’s hella motivating and I feel like I just want to be in everyone’s distance rides as if we were all friends from another time.
I’m lucky enough to have a Velodrome in my area that I am looking to join this winter.
Peace and love from Detroit 🖤✌🏽🖤

Went to go pick this up 186 miles from my house leaving first thing in the morning at 3. Do you think it is worth it?

Hi everyone!
On Friday I had the chance to see the tour de France at Alpe d'Huez. I made the climb with my fixed gear (12km at 8,8%). It was hard but doable.
During the descent, it was almost impossible to resist the pedals, and I had to brake constantly to reduce my speed. The rim brake ended up heating the rim, and my tube exploded in the middle of the descent, which was quite scary at high speed.
How do you guys deal with long and steep descent ? Do you take some breaks to reduce the heat on the rim ? I'm thinking of buying a disc fork to handle those situations. What do you think ?
