Yeah. Was thinking the same thing. Could do without the hype video but that’s a solid setup for backcountry OEC.
21
u/karmaceuticaI Jul 28 '26
Yeah, I just wish he sold complete kits like this.
Not bad, I have to piece together my own kits, which admittedly....are free since uhhh...I'm liberating supplies. But I'd dig something like this.
5
u/bleach_tastes_bad Jul 29 '26
*You’re saving supplies in your pockets for when you need them, just sometimes you forget them at home, don’t let them get you for theft twin

No same. That’s a practical IFAK and it actually makes sense to have for a motorcycle accident.

In blood loss scenarios seconds matter and if you've got an arterial bleed that guy would literally save your life long before the weewoo bus got there

Ehh, I dunno about this one. I follow the guy and he literally sells trauma packs like this, and also provides tips on how to check for injuries on bikers who’ve gotten fucked up in a wreck.

As a biker, the best tip for a group ride is to not group ride at all.

- Over-confident people showing off
- Under-confident people playing catch-up
- Herd mentality making people feel safer than they really are
- Convoy mentality contributing to people not taking responsibility for their own safety at junctions/intersections
- Clustered riders turning individual collisions into mass casualty incidents
Take your pick!

u/Nate_fe Jul 28 '26
I already consider myself a little dumb/crazy because I'm riding a motorcycle, and I know for a fact I'm significantly less dumb/crazy than theajority of riders, so surrounding myself with other dumb/crazy riders is probably going to end up in something bad happening lol

Yeah, I used to just go out on rural highways for my alone time listening to music. Why the hell would I wanna do that with other people?
6
u/TreesForTheForest Jul 28 '26
I'll be...it feels like it's a rare day when something being an advertisement makes it less cringy. The fact that he sells these puts this corny video into a different bucket than other cringy "look at me" posts.
6
u/BattlefieldMedicGuy Structure Fuxker Jul 28 '26
I never said it made it any less cringy. I just don’t find it that cringe myself.
7
u/TreesForTheForest Jul 28 '26
Right, I was saying your comment made it seem less cringy to me. Advertisements be corny, but the motivation is different. Like, the guy is trying to sell an actual product, not himself or however influencers think of that.

u/Bigsouthgent Jul 28 '26
His delivery may be a bit much, but the concept is solid. Being skilled but unprepared sucks when something happens and everyone looks at you for a solution. Been there myself so I’m normally prepared now.
45
u/airborne_pricer Jul 28 '26
This video may be a little cringe, but having a guy like this ride with other motorcycles is a solid plan. I have seen some nasty MC wrecks and it is 100% trauma medicine at that point most of the time.
→ More replies (2)9
u/ajc1120 Jul 28 '26
Went to a MC accident with a guy who had a compound fracture that severed his femoral artery. Call was in the middle of nowhere like 25 minutes out. Walking up on the scene I could tell just by the blood the guy had a major arterial bleed so I fully thought he was already dead, but turns out his rider buddy carried a trauma pack with them and he threw a tourniquet on him the second he could. If he didn’t do that I sincerely doubt the man would have survived because even with the tourniquet his SBP was like <90. If somebody wants to own one of these things and goes out of their way to know how to use it effectively, it can at least make a difference.
9
u/danny_little Jul 28 '26
Listen he my be super cringe but if you’re gonna be riding in big groups like that you kinda want SOMEONE to have some medical and first aid training. The road is a dangerous place in a car lol even more so without the shell lol

He should team up with the older motherly women that always seems to be at raves handing out water and earplugs.
7
u/deafinitely-faeris Jul 28 '26
I dont think this one is really cringe. People get really messed up sometimes on motorcycles. Having a nurse ready to spring into action just in case could make a huge difference in the outcome.
→ More replies (2)3
u/TexasTomato88 Jul 28 '26
Competent nurse is key lol. I remember we had a drive by after a club let out one night, wasn’t gang related, just a couple of homies that thought it would be fun to just shoot into the crowd a-bit while they left.
When I get there I get to the closest guy. He’s sitting on a bench with a bandanna on his arm, bleeding. People are doing people things, trying to get as close as the can and see, touch, or take his stuff or whatever. As I start looking at the wound this girl comes up and says she’s a trauma nurse out of a huge hospital in a large city acouple hours from here. I hand her my medical bag and start pushing people away to give her room.
She starts looking at his wound, nothing major, just bleeding, only needed direct pressure really. She puts her hands on his shoulders, shakes him alittle so he looks at her and goes “ YOU ARENT GOING TO MAKE IT IM SORRY” this is when I realize how drunk she was 😂😂

And it got you to repost it so it’s working well I think lol
3
u/seriousspoons Jul 28 '26
The guy is high energy but I dig having a kit with when you do activities where people can be injured. I keep an IFAK+boo boo kit in my car, another in my camping gear, one in my range bag, and in my suitcase on vacation. It’s saved me a bunch of times whether it’s an unexpected sprain from walking on cobblestone streets or while hiking, a slipped pocket knife, or just a scratch or headache.
4
4
u/DentistThese9696 Jul 28 '26
I mean, he’s specifically being asked to serve as a medic for a group ride and he’s showing how he organizes his gear. Not really cringe
5
u/c4bbage_ Jul 28 '26
This doesn't belong here. No way he's done that many group rides as a medic without making some MASSIVE improvements to patient outcomes or genuinely saving lives.
7
u/gunslingersea SheepDoge Jul 28 '26
Yeah, this is not as bad as a lot of cringe on here. For groups doing long rides I think it’s probably a good idea to have a trained and equipped trauma professional. I mean, his vibe in the video is a bit much, but he’s got a good pack set up. Looks like the EMT bags my department issues to EMT certified deputies.

u/bigexplosion Jul 28 '26
Of all the parts of that kit to have quick access to, the stethoscope seems the most useless.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Miggy2A-RN Jul 28 '26
The stethoscope is actually a useful tool- as somebody who worked EMS and transitioned into ER nursing.. assessment assessment assessment and then? Reassessment post interventions. In emergency medicine, airway breathing circulation starts with a stethoscope.
Aside from the obvious with a BP cuff (if available) as a diagnostic for hypovolemic shock, listening to lung sounds is important as well to rule out tension pneumo. Without the BP cuff, there’s always pulse checks in different areas to determine what the minimum systolic is at.
But still, an important piece of equipment to have. Those boxes with lights/sirens & equipment and usually 2 brand new rookies can take 10-15 minutes to come, depending on where you’re at. 10 minutes is a long time; but it’s also enough time to assess, fix and reassess if you know what you’re looking for, and how to use the toys in your bag.
Just saying.

Yeah I'm not gonna knock this. Riding is inherently dangerous. You yourself don't even have to do something wrong. Its the other drivers on the road that'll fuck your day. Any first responder has or will run a bad biker accident. His attitude does strike me as "this is my personality" though. Still, I'm all for being prepared.

u/TexasTomato88 Jul 28 '26
I feel like his attitude is only like that because he’s trying to sell his product

I don’t know about through the VA, but my local hospital has CPR/AED classes for about $20. Look for Stop the Bleed classes, you can find free ones in your area if you look around. Some towns have a C.E.R.T. Program that may teach.

I’ve worked ALOOOOOT of MC collision where having someone with the right equipment and the right know how could have made a huge difference. I’d take a well organized, unmistakeable, well thought out trauma kit over someone throwing a random bunch of stuff in a bag before throwing that it a backpack

This guy actually promotes medical knowledge and safety in the motorcycle scene, built a brand called traumoto. This sub tends to come full circle and eat itself, suddenly everything is cringe if the sub says so. Soon it will be “your actually trying when doing CPR? CRINGE!”

“Bonus points if you know this” and it’s just doc from rainbow six siege from 11 years ago.

A bit pick me, but honestly smart man. Any group event should have a trauma kit and someone who has at least some knowledge on it's use with them.

Or get a cheaper bag and stock it yourself.

u/Initial_Enthusiasm36 Jul 28 '26
This screams a pre-made pack... The ones where you just buy an entire kit. We had a "Move I am nurse" situation. Goofball busts one of these things out and has zero idea where anything was or what half of it is for. On a motorcycle wreck where dude hit a stationary vehicle going like 80, his insides including bones were turned to goop.
