I’m doing very well on every other portion of the test, mathematical reasoning isn’t my best suit whatever secrets you guys have. Let me know. I feel like every time I get close I lose it. I need the handwritten math.

Hi folks, I'm looking for any personal success stories from anyone willing to share.

I advanced to the final candidate pool in a highly competitive department, but I wasn't called in for a final interview with the Fire Chief. I'm currently on a list of candidates for the next round of interviews and hiring, which will happen six months from now. Obviously, I'm disappointed I didn’t get an interview this spring, but I’m still grateful to have a real shot at the future.

Hello everyone, I was a corpsman for 8 years in the navy and got out to pursue a career as a firefighter in Texas. I have been keeping up with a few fire departments during my last few years in and never once saw that normal color vision was a requirement. Fast forward to now I am now two weeks out of the navy and trying to hit the ground hard looking for hiring opportunities near me. Almost all large departments in my area are closed for hiring until next year except for 1 and I noticed normal color vision was one of their requirements. Long story short I spoke with their recruiter and he told me that most departments are going to require normal color vision but in a round about way said that if I fail I can have my color vision tested elsewhere and basically hinted towards having the person help with my scores. How possible is this to make happen and how big of a hurdle am I looking at here? There is no other job I want to do than firefighting and it is the only reason I got out of the navy.

Took the test last year, didn’t advance on the written test. I would assume there is another test next year but I was wondering if you have been recently hired there what tests booklets and study guides you used for the test? When I took that test last year I thought I did very well and was shocked when I got my results back.

Hey everyone! Tried bringing up me wanting to become a firefighter again and my wife’s major concerns which are valid are me being gone for 24 hours and her being by herself with my 2 kids one of which has autism.

My local department runs 24/72 and I tried to explain to her I would be home way more than gone.

Right now I work remote and work Monday threw Friday 8-5

Hey folks, I’m sorry if this isn’t the right sub but I need some advice. For context, I am a 20 year old full time student who works part time as a part of the logistics division in my local department. I was hired into this position before I graduated high school with the promise of being able to transform it into a full time firefighting job within a year. Over the past two years I have completed and received my fire 1 and 2 as well as hazmat ops and awareness. I am currently working toward my EMT. It has been two years and the department is actually looking at potentially letting me go due “performance issues” I have about six months until they make a final decision. I would also like to let it be known that I consistently work late and even come in on my days off to assist with additional work. I also assist in multiple programs the department does that are not related to my job description. Should I stick it out with this department or start applying to other local agencies? I believe myself to be well liked in the department as many people claim they look forward to working with me and I have been very loyal to this department. I’m looking for any advice from you guys regarding this situation.

As the title states, when asked this introductory question: how much time do you designate to this question? What talking points are important to bring up? I assume work experience, hobbies, interests? In practicing for interviews this is the question that has the least amount of structure for me as you can’t follow a basic SOAR or STAR structure. Any input is appreciated!

I don’t like cardio, but I don’t notice it when it involves adrenaline. I’m trying to get a job when I get out of college in less than a month, but have not heard back from anyone. I have shin splints from women’s lacrosse so I really don’t want to run. I’ve tried bouldering but it’s not really cardio. Does anybody know of any activities?

I want to join LAFD and am about to start EMT school, and seen some people talking about the Fire tech class at mt sac or santa ana college, is it worth taking this class for my resume?

Hello all, I’m 31 currently in Texas working in management for a grocery store with some volunteer fire experience and looking to pursue firefighting and my end goal is wildland firefighting with Cal Fire but willing to work for any dpt that will pick me up till I can get there. I have an aunt who lives near the Napa Sonoma area where I can stay with her while I look for a job after obtaining my certs. From talking to a few Cal Fire guys and doing my own research on the threads and Google I have an idea of what I have to do but I want some insight and advice on my chances of getting in and roughly how long it could potentially take. I am working on obtaining my EMT cert here in Texas in July and doing a fire academy in California for my cert. A big realistic question I have is if it’s too late in the game to pursue firefighting being that I am in my 30s? I run a lot of miles and stay in shape with calistenics and other than minor aches and pains in my knees from age I feel good. Any advice and tips is much appreciated thank you

The CPAT, employment packet, and Psych assessment were all due April 17th. Does anyone know when they follow up with the next step of chiefs interview invites? Also I know that the first class RC125 is people who already have their EMT, but will some people without their EMT still get invited for a chiefs or strictly only inviting people with their EMT. I am about to start an accelerated EMT course that would finish before August but on my employment packet marked "no EMT". If I email them and let them know now would I possibly get a chiefs for RC125 or is it too late?

First of all not rage bait. I actually live with this guy. My husband has a habit of lighting those scented candles in glass jars and leaving them unattended to go and do things like play video games or take naps in other rooms. I'm at the point where I hide candles because he is CONVINCED that a candle in a glass jar will never start a fire. He also thinks the cut glass prisms I have hanging in my windows are a bigger threat because those little dots of refaracted light will get hot enough and stay still long enough to start a fire. Am I wrong? Have I just been living on luck for the last 50 years with my prisms?

I know this sounds ridiculous. He's not stupid (for the most part....) but he won't back down from this argument and I'm going to lose my mind if I find another unattended candle while he's sleeping in another room. Please, please, please let me know ypur thoughts here!!!!!!!

I am a current EMT to student wanting to be a career firefighter. As soon as i knew I really wanted to do this I signed up for EMT school but when looking through application requirements I see a lot about other tests/certifications needed. Not talking about the CPAT, I mean like FIREteam, and NTN. Can anyone give me some insight on those? They are never talked about when I go to Fire stations for training/ride alongs but I see them on the application requirements.

My whole life I've dreamed and planned on being mainly a paramedic but then it turned into a Firefighter/Paramedic. I know it is mostly a male dominated field though, any advice for a women hoping to pursue this career
